- Need a way to attach yard art to a stake? This video demonstrates a simple, practically free way to make a fused glass bracket to attach a stake to your yard art.
METAL STAKES can be found at Home Depot. Look for 3/16" zinc-plated round rod. It comes in 3 foot and 4 foot lengths. It can be cut with a bolt cutter.

You’ve solved one of the worlds great mysteries! Gosh I’ve struggled also as you stated trying to find an attractive way and spending lots of time at Home Depot in the plumbing department trying out different methods! Thank you.
Happy to help!
Pam,
As always an easy to follow clear and creative video/project and in this case, solution!
Thanks so much!
Easy to follow directions and such joyful artwork!
Thank you so much 😀
Thank you. It worked great! I used 3/16" rod. it did spall quite a bit, but it just washed it off and used it again. I also increased the length to 1.25".😊
I'm glad it worked well for you!
What a wonderful idea... Thanks!
Glad you like it!
Love it
Thanks!
Genius! Thank you!
You're welcome!
Thank you for the video. Did you put the metal stake in the kiln? Also why can’t you use Gorilla glue to attach the clear to the bird?
I use a small scrap of rod. It will spall (flake) and turn black, so don’t use your actual rod. I haven’t used gorilla glue so I can’t tell you how it will work. You just need some kind of glue that will hold up to the elements outside.
Pam thank you very much. If you have time, do you think the two part epoxy holds up better than e6000 under a hot sun? Living in Mexico I worry about the sun heating things up so much the glue might fail.
I have heard that a 2 part epoxy works well but have not tried it. I live in Nevada where it can be up to 120º F on our hottest days and have not yet had a problem with E6000.
thank you for this!! is this what you get at home depot?
Everbilt. 1/8 in. x 36 in. Plain Steel Cold Rolled Round Rod
?????????
Yes, that is the stake I use. You can cut it easily with bolt cutters.
Brilliant…only wonder about what kind of metal the stake is? Does it spall? (Not sure if spall is the right word, but cast off bits during firing)
That’s what I’m wondering, too-about kind of metal. Sounds like it deteriorates in flakes based on her response in other video.
@@BlumenSusan The metal does spall, but I am not putting the entire stake in, just a piece approximately 1 1/2" long to act as a place holder. I use the place holders again and again. Then I add a clean stake to the glass when assembling.
I am confused about the size of the rod. You stated you use 1/8" rod when you are fusing in the Kiln. But you use a 3/16" rod as the actual stake. Is this correct?
Sorry, it's actually 3/16. Either size would work.
Thank you. @@pjsglasscreations354
you can use beadrelease on the stake 😃
That's a great idea! It would probably be easier than using Papyrus paper, and cheaper too.
