    Pretty amazing how you cut those curves out of the middle of the design!!

      hehe thanks! It really helped that I was using 2mm glass - it likes to behave while cutting.

    Another beautiful piece just like always. I would love for you to make a video about soldering. Your solder lines are always so perfect. You mentioned the dichroic being somewhat delicate. Does the steel wool not scratch it?

    • @SamanthaAshleyGlass
      @SamanthaAshleyGlass  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Aww thank you! I'm so slow at making videos, but I'll try to get around to a dedicated soldering video! And no, I've never had steel wool scratch dichroic glass, iridescent glass, or any glass. I just caution to be careful when grinding because glass chips on the grinder bed can scratch the surface.

    This is so gorgeous. We JUST are getting started and one of the first things I want to make is the stained glass flowers on a stick/rod, and some veggie markers for my veggie garden. We bought soldering irons that are digital. Can you say what temp is ideal to solder like you do, and then what temp to turn it down to to get that rounded finish on the solder and also make the decorative beading?

    • @SamanthaAshleyGlass
      @SamanthaAshleyGlass  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So I solder and do decorative work at 410°c (but I also use a smaller 3mm tip), if you're using a larger tip, try a slightly lower temp. I do edge beading at 360°c though. Check out my edge beading video.

    Those are definitely beautiful! Wonderful job! Has dichroic glass come down in price? Im just wondering how much these are selling for? Again, gorgeous work! I know how much time & effort goes into this 🎉

    • @SamanthaAshleyGlass
      @SamanthaAshleyGlass  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Dichroic has not come down at all. The price also depends where you buy it from. Some places charge a ridiculous amount for 1/4 sheets, and some places are much more reasonable. Most 1/4 sheets are between $45-$60

    • @kristycannon7923
      @kristycannon7923 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SamanthaAshleyGlass I thought it was super expensive. Was wondering if you have to charge substantially more for those items that you use dichroic for?

    • @SamanthaAshleyGlass
      @SamanthaAshleyGlass  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kristycannon7923 yes, it's definitely substantially more expensive when compared to normal glass, so I do charge more. I sold this piece for $60, whereas I usually sell this design for $45-$50

    Really cute! I just got into stained glass and found your [aspirational soldering] channel :-D I have a question about the solder for garden ornaments, are you using a lead or lead free solder? I wasn't sure which would be appropriate.

    • @SamanthaAshleyGlass
      @SamanthaAshleyGlass  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@misplacedask hi thanks! You can use normal lead solder, since it's attached to a brass or copper rod that goes into the soil.

    Very helpful video! Could you include the name of the saw you used to cut the rods or a link to it? As well as where you bought the rods?

    • @SamanthaAshleyGlass
      @SamanthaAshleyGlass  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! If you go to the linktree link in the description box, you'll see a link to "tools and supplies." The rods and a similar saw are listed there, but I got my saw from harbor freight, if you have one of those stores nearby.

    Great video! Can you let me know which respirator you use? Looks like the one I have has the cartridges you say is not for fumes. Thanks!!

    • @SamanthaAshleyGlass
      @SamanthaAshleyGlass  ปีที่แล้ว

      Here's a link to all the safety items I use in my studio. The 3m vapor cartridges I use are kinda pricey, but I don't want to be breathing in any of those fumes. You can find other brand cartridges, you just have to make sure they're compatible with your respirator.

    With the wide sharpie line, it appears you score near the middle but then grind off any remaining marker on the glass to accurately downsize the glass to match the pattern?

    • @SamanthaAshleyGlass
      @SamanthaAshleyGlass  ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct. I like to be a little cautious, cause you can always grind a piece to fit, but if you score too close to the inner line and accidentally score too much, you can't add that glass back on

    Hi Samantha, thanks for this great project, do you think 2 mm stem will be fine?

    • @SamanthaAshleyGlass
      @SamanthaAshleyGlass  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If it feels sturdy enough to you, then it should be fine. I used 2.3mm, so 2mm isn't much smaller, I just don't know exactly how 2mm feels so I can't answer concretely.
