Cool processes-thanks for sharing! I learned a simple formula to ensure you have enough glass for a melt. Volume of finished shape in cubic inches multiplied by density of glass (Bullseye is .09) = pounds of glass needed. Example-7”x7” square that you want to be 3/8” thick would need 7x7x.375x.09=1.6538 pounds of glass-Enjoy!
Hey! Just a thought but adding a bunch of clear frit in might have helped to avoid a brown out. Maybe 50% clear and 50% turq/vanilla mix. Since its not square, try doing a round deep drop out and see what happens.
Thanks again Jamaison! What is spalling? Also, my understanding is that we should run a magnet through the homemade frit to collect any metal pieces. Would that only be for when you use the frit making machine or a blender? 🤔🐢
Spalling is when the metal casts off little chips and flakes as it cools. It doesn’t harm the glass but it does make a mess. And would really mess up the ZYP. And yes, the magnet is just when you use a blender or frit piston. That’s an extra step I get to ski using this technique.
Thanks jamaison for a fun ride. I do think a drop is a good idea bcs the stretching will thin it out ur tile n show some transparency. For ur leftover mix, making a thicker slab or a pattern bar that u then cut strip off of may reveal interesting patterns. But fair warning. Once u start on drop vessels, u get easily hooked. Good luck
Drop would be cool, itmight also slice and be interesting as a feature with clear, lighter colors… next time you could try using the reactive frit bend as a cascade “feature”, or channel on a plainer platter… thanks for sharing!
I’m thinking if you put the white side to the outside of the drop that it will make a cool drop. It’s a huge piece of glass but the thickest part is only 12mm that will limit how much of a drop you can do.
Yup, great way to repurpose it. Then cast it into hearts, paws, etc? I use my broken castoffs to make paws for the local animal shelter. facebook.com/share/p/NGXSEjvxhPAAaCxr/?mibextid=WC7FNe
Jamaison, did you hold your anneal for 2 hours because you had 6 mm thickness? I'm preparing to do a bunch of clear tekta but it is all 3mm... Would 60 minutes be ok for the anneal at that thickness?
What you do is sooooo much safer and cleaner for the glass,, the metals in the mix is terrible and I have glass from 1 company that has kiln dust in it and they are horrible to work with. But I didn't know that till after I bought a lot of glass from Devardi Glass. So they claim the glass glass is shocky because of the colors,,, but there are lots of glass artist that no longer order from them. They did tell me my clear Rods had black spots in them because of the Kiln dust/dirt, so be careful about the glass Rods and sheets you buy and don't risk dirt in your glass.
That’s a great idea! The denim should hold up well! I’ve also heard the thick zippered plastic pouches that sheets/bedding sets come in could be good, if even just for one time use.
i happen to like everything u have done with this glass.. have u ever seen Laurie Spray videos.her's are also free. u can take that big piece further..
Thank you for all your great info!
I love you taking us along with you. I think it will make a great drop project.
I have some of that glass waiting for me at home, for class I bought from Tanya. Excited to play with it.
I can’t wait to try this method of making frit ! Thank you for all your experiments !

Thank you for sharing! So interesting on how glass works.
Thanks for the experiment. So Cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice to watch your process.
Thanks!
super fun... those big flows take a looooooooooooong time to spread to 6mm - you did great with this test!!

Yes, I agree more clear would have helped. I’m thinking round drop will be fun!
Thanks for Sharing
Thank you Jamaison for sharing, i am learning so much from you❤ It's going to be exiting to learn to do drop vessels, I have never try that 🤔
Thanks again Jamaison! What is spalling?

I was thinking of the same orientation… white side out!
Thanks Jamison, since it is so thick in the middle, have you considered slicing it? It might be really pretty inside. just a thought.
I hadn’t but a few have suggested this now! More to think about…
Yes, do a drop! You could first add some of the fired gold to it in some random squiggly lines and it would look gorgeous!
Oh, the gold is a great idea!
I have soo much of items that didn’t come out good enough. So I maybe will do frit.

I’m curious what this would look like as pattern bars - maybe you have enough for both a drop vessel blank and some bars
Others have suggested this too!
Why did you heat the glass to 1000 degrees? Thanks for the wonderful videos!
To thermal shock it in the water to make frit.
❤ what is 'spalling'?

What a neat idea! Did you make your hook for the pots, or buy it like that? Thanks.
This is covered in the video? I made it.
What about using the chunks I the paw print. Brown is appropriate?
Yes, I’ll probably do that
That large piece would be awesome "pressed!
Jamaison, did you hold your anneal for 2 hours because you had 6 mm thickness? I'm preparing to do a bunch of clear tekta but it is all 3mm... Would 60 minutes be ok for the anneal at that thickness?
Yes, 60 min is fine for 3mm!
To be clear, that anneal was for the finished piece I made, not for the plunging of the frit. There’s obviously no anneal for that.
now I see!!! LOLOLOL. thanks. needed to keep reading!!!
The big piece might look good sliced up.
thank u
Where did you get the stainless steel baskets? Love that they have handle.
They are in my Amazon store: www.amazon.com/shop/jamaisonschuler
@@JamaisonSchuler thanks!
Thank you Jamaison, could you send me the link to the frit sisters couldn't find it on your page thanks!!! Happy 2024

A lady I know puts her glass in the legs of old jeans to crush it. I haven’t tried that yet, I use the paper as well.

I guess i should have asked u If u went further with it??
Not yet…
I don't like the ad at the beginning for over 2 minutes to get to the video.
You realize that TH-cam places these ads and I have zero control over this, right? And that advertising is what makes all this content free for you?
