I own the OR2 as well as a few Rolex sports models and Tudor. I can honesy say Ginault's craftsmanship is really up there with the big boys. The build quality and details are just amazing. As for the dial text, that doesn't bother me at all. Its the same on my Rolex. And if you talk to Jon, you will realize they actually chose every word carefully and he is an absolute expert in milsub history. He really knows what he is talking about and why the text he used.
I have a Rolex DSSD which I like, and I recently got my Ocean Rover II "No Date" with Gold Sand Lume and I've been unable to tell a difference in quality. What I like about the watch is that it provides Rolex looks, feel, and quality, but without the Rolex logo. Don't get me wrong, I like wearing my Rolex, but there are plenty of situations where I rather not flash a Rolex on my wrist. That's where the Ginault comes into rotation. An absolute jewel of a watch.
Excellent review sir I actually own three ocean Rover 2 I have the ceramic blue and black bezel and I have one no date version with aluminum bezel in the Golden sands loom I also have the silent service in the divers model with date and cyclops I also have The travelers model
Curious, do you prefer ceramic or aluminum bezel? I just ordered an ORII and asked for the aluminum bezel insert, John said he would put the last aluminum bezel he had in stock on my ORII.
@@zanefleming5168 honestly I like the ceramic better as I am an automotive mechanic and I would like to wear my watches at work so I am always concerned when I have on anything with the aluminum bezel for scratch reasons

I have a Silent Service II and the OR Blue and prefer them to the Rolexes I have had. Older -rolexes had the bad bracelet and clasp and no AR coating etc. I prefer them to Tudor BB58 too.
I just received mine a few days ago. I totally agree with your assessment of this watch. I chose the same configuration as you did. Love the blue bezel.
This. Each to their own, but I personally would never buy a watch that nearly copied the Rolex 1 to 1 and slapped their own brand on there to call it a homage. It's just a nicer way of saying knock off. For over a grand, I'd probably go for a higher end Seiko or an Oris where they have their own unique designs and history.
GREAT video. I watched it at least twice. Question: is it nicer to get it perfectly symmetrical and no date OR is it better and worth it to get the magnified date version? I like both looks and don't know HOW to decide. I'm sure if I actually tried on both, I would be able to know which one I liked more, but that doesn't seem possible. Thanks
Sometimes I think some watch brands just want an epic looking watch As such, maybe they write so much on the dial it could rival a Star Wars movie beginning title crawl. Kidding aside and trying to look past the small paragraph on the dial, it's a pretty handsome watch and I'm sure it feels and wears as great as their previous models.
Just got my Ginault Ocean Rover 2, it's an awesome watch!! I like it better than my 2023 Submariner. I'm now questioning my Rolex purchase as this Ginault is very good! Wears better, bezel is better, keeps time better...
Beautiful! Brands like Ginault can do what they do because they spend money on finishing, construction and distribution. No or not much R&D needed on movement, or investment in marketing or retail distribution. I'm glad these brands exist, so consumers can spend your money on what they value; if you'd like to support legacy brand infrastructure, that's cool as well. Cheers!
Wow... im hesitant but ill keep my eye on it for a 3?. Imo Same build but blue dial options.... Less text and im def buying. I don't want a homage I want a Ginault.... a blue two tone would be nice too...
I own a few OR2s and a 6digit Rolex Sub.the claps are the same size. As for the dial text, perhaps I'm too used to looking at my Rolex, the OR2 looks just right with the 4 lines.
It's the same amount on the Rolex Sub. At first I thought it was funny but after talking to Jon about the text in details I realized these guys actually thought out every word and are experts in milsub history
I’ve watched your video like 10 times you did a great job at showcasing every detail about it. I think the only negative is those hands need some work. I’m surprised they let such a beautifully finished watch and dial have those hands that type of finishing. Even so that’s the best homage yet!
How much is it? I don’t think you mentioned it in the video? Great video, nice and in-depth, I actually like the writing on the dial, I always think more writing Looks more quality.

Many people buying Rolex watches not for quality but for vanity and investment. Fortunately Rolex now is dropping in prices thus many will be back to sanity.
Considering the unique features of the Richard Mille RM 26-01, acquiring this timepiece involves a different approach than traditional watches. The RM 26-01 boasts a tourbillon movement, making it a rare and exquisite investment in the world of horology. Its limited production and intricate design suggest potential appreciation in value over time.
The Rolex has the same amount of text and nobody says a thing about it. I don't have an issue with it at all. Its the watch that Rolex should be making.
@dellwright1407 yeh I own two. I have the first ocean rover with date but no cyclops. Absolutely flawless watch in my opinion. I also have the OR2 with date and cyclops. The cyclops is not very clear. It’s ok, but I’m used to the cyclops on my two datejusts and the OR2 cyclops seems almost a little cloudy in comparison. I also think the bracelet isn’t as good on my OR2, the edges are sharper. I am nit picking though, as it’s still a great watch.
Sold my silent service for little less than I paid new. Loved it. But wanted to the money to hunt for an OR2 with the gold sand lume. Was able to get a brand new one. Should be here within a month. The clarity and overall quality on the Ginault are just mind boggling. My only “complaint” is that the packaging could be a tad more upscale. And a fitted rubber strap straight from Ginault would be a nice addition. But can’t wait for my OR2
If they ever decide to listen to their customer base and get rid of all the ridiculously long and truly unnecessary text, their watches will be almost perfect.
This is probably the only Rolex homage that can command any respect, and it's pretty much deserved. Ginault should buy some Peacock ebauches and began building their own legal clones of the cal 4130, and begin constructing some Daytona-esque watches.

@@rawz05 Gist of it is the owner Tsung Chi aka Thomas Caddell (Thomas Caddell is not a real person), owner of Ginault, has counterfeiter ties. Not homages but actual counterfeits. And then all of a sudden he uses the spare counterfeit parts to make Ginault watches and it's supposed to be a legit, clean watch company now? Shady stuff.
How does this remind you of a 4 digit sub? It doesn't look like a 5513 at all to me. It has 4 lines of text whereas the 5513 had 2, hardly any chamfers, no dommed crystal, bidirectional clicking bezel and not a friction-based one, the modern-looking bracelet, steel surrounds, date window, I don't see it? LOL. Looks much closer to a 16800, 14060, or 16610. If I was going for a 4 digit interpretation, and how it would look today, this wouldn't be it for me.
@@EscapementWatch Got it. When I saw this I went more towards a neo-vintage sub. The correlation between an old mrk 1 - mrk 5 insert and this watch didn't register to me. I guess because everything is so overwhelmingly modern. But I can see it now. That said, I'd like to see an intentional 4-digit sub interpretation by a brand. A matte dial, low-beat movement, a true dome crystal, a longer lug-to-lug length - maybe even be able to use 580 rolex end links? That would be cool. I could compromise on a modern insert, but aluminum - not ceramic. And would be okay to have a fake rivet-style bracelet like Tudors. Most importantly, super wide chamfers - Tudor has that right on their 54 and 58.
I noticed that, too. Hoping maybe they fixed that, because I just ordered that exact model. I could give 2 craps about the controversy. Who cares! You can’t even buy a Rolex, if you want one. This will do me, just fine.
I've got the same watch and also own 3 San Martin's. I like San Martin's but the Ginault is far superior in just about every aspect. I was amazed at the Ginault when it arrived
I own a San Martin and I’m extremely satisfied with it. My coworker has an Ocean Rover and the finish is way beyond what SM is doing, and with a better movement as well. They both represent good value at different price points.
Before you buy this watch or any other from the brand , search the internet to see if you can support a scammer like Ginault. It is basically equal to buy a fake Rolex even if it does not say that on the dial.
The original blog posts detailing the evidence that Ginault was in the replica business have all since been taken down by the original poster. It is still all speculation with no definitive conclusion. I’ve reached out to the original poster several times in the last few years requesting more information about their sources and not a single response. This really makes me think whether these posts by the original poster was some competitor trying to hurt Ginault’s business and reputation. Nothing is known about this user within the community and they just randomly popped out of the blue one day with the claim that Ginault had a shady past. I’ve dove deep into my own research into this brand and I’ve come to my own conclusion that they are great micro brand company making quality pieces. If they were in the replica business, then they have since turned around and started off fresh. Not saying what they did was right if the claims were true, but going legit despite having a shady past is always a good thing in my books for someone who wants to have another go in life. Rolex is also not as innocent as a lot of fan boys put them out to be either with a ton of unethical practices and shutting down small mom and pop stores just because they did some legal business dealings that they did not agree with. My advice for anyone is to do your own extensive research and make your own conclusions in order for you to make a well informed purchase.
Lots of watch in materials and quality, but it remains a sub homage. That makes it too expensive. I'd rather get a San Martin, which is still a homage watch, but with great quality for just $300, including an excellent blue lume. If I had close to 2 grand to spend on a timepiece, I would look elsewhere for an original from another brand, or save a bit more for an Omega.
Why does a homage have to be inferior in quality? That's very odd thinking. Can't I want a Rolex homage and also close to Rolex quality? I have handled a few San Mar before while they are ok for the price, Ginault's quality is leagues above and ahead, close to Rolex/Tudor. You are basically buying Rolex Sub quality watch for 1/10th the price.
That bracelet looks amazing, the build quality overall looks excellent. I'd prefer a sterile dial though, too much text and the brand Ginault sounds like the family name of inbred French-Canadians Edit: just saw the retail price on these, that shitty seconds hand is unacceptable!
Why use all these "great parts", "superb engineering" and "craftmanship up there with the big boys" to make a COPY of the Rolex Submariner!? With resources such as these it shouldn't be difficult for Ginault to come up with an original design! You'll wear this, and people will constantly ask: "Is it a real or a fake Rolex?" As it has about a whole page of James Joyce's "Ulysses" on the dial - it will be recognized as fake rather quickly
This is for people who love the Rolex design language but don't want to pay 5-10x the money for a watch. They also appreciate a quality product and do not support fakes. There are also many Ginault buyers who would buy a Rolex if Rolex allowed them too. They are against buying in the grey market. For them they will wait on the wait list for 2-5 years and in the meantime the Ginault will get the call!
Yes it's another Sub homage, but No it's unlike all the other ones done before. From a quality point, the OR2 is very close to what the Sub is representing, the quality is amazing! From a design point of view the OR2 is a diehard Sub fan's wet dream. Keeping that beautiful classic 5-digit's balance and proportions and a logical evolution of what a MilSub would be if Rolex were to make it today.
Not true. On 3 different occasions I've shown it to 3 people and all 3 were impressed. One was a grey market dealer, one was a normie and other was an enthusiast. All were impressed. So your're wrong.
I own a few Rolex and a few Tudor, I am pretty impressed by the quality and how the OR2 handles. It's pretty impressive. Of course, if you are the type that is insecure and needs to wear fancy name brands to earn respect, this isn't for you.

What is the big deal, if you are copying 85% from the Rolex Sub. You see one, you see them all.
Lots of companies copies Rolex Subs, but Ginault also copied the quality of the Rolex Sub. The craftsmanship is bar none.
Your wrong, it does have the brand name, American made. ❤😊👍🌏
What was the scandal with Ginault a few years ago?
How does this remind you of a 4 digit sub? It doesn't look like a 5513 at all to me. It has 4 lines of text whereas the 5513 had 2, hardly any chamfers, no dommed crystal, bidirectional clicking bezel and not a friction-based one, the modern-looking bracelet, steel surrounds, date window, I don't see it? LOL. Looks much closer to a 16800, 14060, or 16610. If I was going for a 4 digit interpretation, and how it would look today, this wouldn't be it for me.
mostly its because the bezel fades on the 5513 from black to blue and this has a blue bezel. That was why I said that lol
Sorry Ginault, the finishing of the second hand is a little bit poor...
I noticed that, too. Hoping maybe they fixed that, because I just ordered that exact model. I could give 2 craps about the controversy. Who cares! You can’t even buy a Rolex, if you want one. This will do me, just fine.
The San Martin MilSub SN0111 or the older SN006 MilSub would give this a run for its money. It’s that well built. They can be had for around $150-200.
I'd agree it's well built, however ginault is leagues above... Have you held one in person?
I've got the same watch and also own 3 San Martin's. I like San Martin's but the Ginault is far superior in just about every aspect. I was amazed at the Ginault when it arrived
I own a San Martin and I’m extremely satisfied with it. My coworker has an Ocean Rover and the finish is way beyond what SM is doing, and with a better movement as well. They both represent good value at different price points.
I was considering a SM but can't stand their logo
The Rolex Submariner is, itself, an homage to the Blancpain 50 fathoms. No difference here.
😊👍👍👍
That bracelet looks amazing, the build quality overall looks excellent. I'd prefer a sterile dial though, too much text and the brand Ginault sounds like the family name of inbred French-Canadians
Edit: just saw the retail price on these, that shitty seconds hand is unacceptable!
I think their watches look very refined. However in my opinion that’s not enough to compensate for a lower power reserve. Should be at least 60 hrs.
If I had this, then everytime I looked at it I’d secretly wished I had a Rolex.
But that’s just me, each to their own…
I will disagree on this one, the last 40mm Submariner is the perfect submariner imo..
Me think me likes 😍👍
GMT please
It's coming. shhhhh
@@EscapementWatch take my money
So is just another Rolex Copy 😂😂😂
Yes it's another Sub homage, but No it's unlike all the other ones done before. From a quality point, the OR2 is very close to what the Sub is representing, the quality is amazing! From a design point of view the OR2 is a diehard Sub fan's wet dream. Keeping that beautiful classic 5-digit's balance and proportions and a logical evolution of what a MilSub would be if Rolex were to make it today.
But its not a rolex and pretentious people buy rolexes to wave under the nose of people. No one will be impressed by this watch
Hmmm…I mean, shit. Pretty good
