Went and compared them both on my wrist, my God the mm300 was big! I get it, it's a tool for a real diver, maybe nothing compares to it when getting the job done. It's clean, simple (genial design) and the depth of the dial is amazing. Left the store with the mm200, because I'm a farmer and it is a gorgeous watch nonetheless. Also, the accuracy is very good, after 1 month it's been loosing just 5 sec a day
For around 1k usd, I was expecting the bezel action of the mm200 to be better than cheaper prospex models. Unfortunately, it had a lot of play and I even had difficulty in aligning it to its original 12 o clock position. That said, finishing is superb, and it does fit perfectly on a 6.5-7 inch wrist. I can't say it justifies the price, but may still consider in adding to my collection LOL
If the MM300 comes in a smaller case like the MM200, I would definitely consider that. Unfortunately, I have small wrists which would look weird wearing such a large watch.
I only recently started my Seiko obsession. I have a few 4r movements and figured a 6r was next and then an 8l. So last wk I was thinking about getting a MM200 SPB 185 or 187 for around $1300(not in the US) but instead went for a SPB079 MM200 for $400 new which has pretty much the same running gear though a lower power reserve but much longer lasting lume. To me it represented much better value and can scratch that 6r itch. Then I'll make plans for the MM300 which is a bit special and will be my final Seiko piece. However if I decide to pass on it then the 079 will probaby be my last Seiko. I'm very pleased with it's performance just +8secs in one wk and got lucky with alignment this time. Useful relevent info FT as usual...thank you.

Thanks to your videos, I bought the MM200. BUT after two weeks I bought the MM300. I then sold the MM200, which is a great watch but the quality on the MM300 is clearly superior. So I now have an MM300 to join my Sub, Explorer and Speedy as the core of my collection. I agree with your conclusion, the MM300 is the way to go.

My first video ever was a review on the Seiko SLA021! A second note on the MarineMaster300 is that although over watch is bigger, with the thicker bezel, the was face itself is smaller making the watch actually appear smaller than the Reduced!
I had the original MM300. At US 1800, it was a steal.. but now Seiko add an X logo, ceramic, sapphire and charges US 2800. IMHO, the watch now lost much of its competitive advantages, as it is now being cross-shopped with the likes of Tudor Black Bay, which is well regulated chronometer certified, has longer power reserve, comes in different sizes, and equally rich in heritage. I have always admired the Seiko MARINEMASTER SLA021. There is no question in my mind but that it is far superior (really no comparison) to the less expensive Seiko SPB187 and other inexpensive Seiko divers using a movement like the 6R35. Great video. Proper review! Glad I found your channel. Man, the MM300 is such a fine watch. Very close to Rolex/Omega level. While the new watch is superior to its predecessor with its lumed bezel and ceramic crystal, I can't forgive the PS 'X' logo. Compared to the 'Marinemaster', it is super tacky, not fit for a Seiko of this price and quality. It looks like it came of a Play Station, or an X Box. 'MM200' is great, but same weak logo. You'd never get a tacky logo like that on a Omega/Rolex - cheapens these great Seikos.
Thanks for stopping by! The logo def takes time to grow on you. I think it is ok! Seiko wants it to be a SEAL for Professional Specs. Maybe they should just engrave it on the back?
@@EscapementWatch No worries man. Like what you're doing with the content. Yeah, I wouldn't mind the logo on the case back! I'd actually buy the watch! Yeah, I know, fussy. Where I live, the sla043 is 600 usd more than an sla021. In terms of overall quality, which one do you think is better? How does the ever brilliant steel compare with the shine and brilliance of the dia shield coated sla021? Bezel action / bezel material difference? Thank you!
Thanks for watching! I will try to keep making the videos in 2021. The SLA043 ever brilliant steel is a tier above for sure the SLA021 much nicer white gold tones and shine. Hoping for a Marinemaster in Ever brilliant steel in 2021 or 22. Quality is very much on par for both of them. Bezel feel and dial finishing all equal. no worries on quality. All high end seikos have pretty much same build quality. If you have a bigger wrist the mm300 is a great choice.
OK now you're comparing it to the real MM300 and I kind of want that 🤷♂️. Need to try one on in person though, it may be too big for my taste. Again great video! Very informative
I should have never watched this video - you have sold me on both! Although I am not going to downvote this one I am going to hate you for a bit until I receive the watches.
I really don’t understand why you would say throw away the SPB187 instead of servicing it. I really can’t see the service cost coming close to the $1200 MSRP price tag. According to Seiko’s website, a 6R15 service costs $260. Can’t see the 6R35 costing much more if any.
No I was discussing the movement. Throw away the movement. Not the watch. buy a 4R35 for $30 bucks put the dial and hands on it and its as an affordable way for easy service. Especially if you do the hand pressing yourself. Service on a 6R35 is roughly $150-250 in my area from local watchmakers. So for me personally i would give up the extra 30hrs of power reserve and save on servicing.
Gotcha. I was a little confused. I know the MM300 is nicer than the MM200, but it’s definitely not a throw away watch. I have the SPB103, SBDC113 and SPB187 that are getting all of the wrist time right now(my Turtles are feeling a bit lonely). The SLA023 is next.
Thinner seiko diver? I eanna try the mm200 now and please stop saying ones better then the other :( they're simply for different people and what job they're using it for and future reference Also the mm200 that 70 hour reserve that thing will kick any tuder or rolly or omega like a mule
The SLA021 is 3100$ USD retail and not 2800$ and i doubt seiko makes 60 thousand watches in 5 hours unless you talking about 8 hrs work day and no weekends because if thats the case they making 105 million watches a year and thats impossible.
The stat is from watchfinderUK a trust worthy source. it maybe incorrect but it could also be seiko only produces for 2 days a week. who knows. But the speed of production is the key in the stat.

ok I have reached out to another youtuber about the indices on the MM300 and he stated that this topic was covered on Watchuseek forum that they were actually pressed. Can you confirm that they are in fact applied?
After studying the SLA047 in greater detail I believe they are pressed. Were they always pressed? I don't think so. SBDX001 The original I believe was applied.
@@EscapementWatch thank you for the quick response. I own the SLA023 and either way it’s a beautiful piece.
But this is an expensive watch and at the top end of Seiko's range, there's a lot of serious competition! What's wrong with just 'Seiko?'! Man, always something...
@@jameshoward9700 don’t mind the logo and love the gold text just by it, overall look is awesome 😎. I have it, it’s amazing
@@jameshoward9700 i have to agree with you regarding the prospex logo, i just hate it, that's why i just acquired the discontinued MM300 sbdx017. looks retro with the alumium bezel and hardlex crystal, just hate that "x" on the dial
I love your videos , please keep making them!. I am choosing between an sla043 and the sla021, saw all you videos and I know how much you like the sla043.
I had the MM300 and unfortunately sold it.
For 2021 my goal is to buy it new again. Everything else makes no sense for me.
i recommend the sla023 its amazing. email me if you need a discount code.
I came across an opportunity to buy a used MM300 from someone I know for a really good price. I might even talk him down to $1600 USD lol.
Great video and review!! and thanks for the code
Any time!
Great comparison video
Thanks
OK now you're comparing it to the real MM300 and I kind of want that 🤷♂️. Need to try one on in person though, it may be too big for my taste. Again great video! Very informative
Go for it! Its a beast! But man it feels special. I own the 185 now with a 187 bezel installed on it and its great but its not mm300!
Wish the MM200 had a black dial to match the black bezel
Its a great combo. I will be doing that mod soon to the 185!
@@EscapementWatch Wow, now that will be nice to see, as it'll visually look more like the current MM300. Can't wait for that one :)
@@EscapementWatch What will the cost of that mod be just out of interest? Will use Seiko parts?
Please review the LX Line SNR029 :)
Coming soon
If I had the budget I'd get both.
Very nice vid! Subscribed and following you on IG😎
Thank you very much for the support
I should have never watched this video - you have sold me on both! Although I am not going to downvote this one I am going to hate you for a bit until I receive the watches.
hahahaha
I enjoy them as well! Great collection
awesome review!
Glad you enjoyed it
Hay un problema, en el Baby Marinemaster,el bisel Negro no queda bien. En Azul hubiera sido perfecto.
This watch or a longines conquest 39mm.......need a blue dial.
I know it's been mentioned before but I don't get why the end links on both watches look like they belong to another model.
Go premium. You'll never be disappointed.
My next watch will be the MM300.
8 seconds per day for a watch that price is disappointing.
Man, the MM300 is a warlord. The others are just auxiliaries.
Thinner seiko diver? I eanna try the mm200 now and please stop saying ones better then the other :( they're simply for different people and what job they're using it for and future reference
Also the mm200 that 70 hour reserve that thing will kick any tuder or rolly or omega like a mule
At 06:32, you say this watch cannot be used underwater???? Um, I'm sure that, being a dive watch, it can.
He’s referring to the fact that you can’t deploy the dive extension on the MM200 while the watch is on your wrist.
@@WakeMeUpB4UGogoplata why would you need to? Shouldn't all that be adjusted before you go under?
@@varanid9 Exactly, so it shouldn’t be a problem.
Wrist watches lover but these watches are too expensive. Out of range...
Both are very nice looking
If you are that strict with your timing - get a quartz. 100% right lol! Thank you for the detailed comparison of these two watches.
You bet!
I prefer the MM200. Slimmer and better looking. I don't like the new handset. I prefer the older one like on the SBDC063, with the arrow hour hand
worth it if I could afford it
SLA045 is the one to get.
I like the classic black and the SLA047 better. but 45 is still nice looking.
@@EscapementWatch Btw, great comparison, you detail perfectly why the MM300 is worth the extra $. It puts a smile on my dial when I wear it.
I love them both...😛🔥
Haha me too! I guess going by Seiko's trend there will be a LE edition MM Reduced. So let's wait for that one 😉
You got the diameters wrong on both watches
Don’t like position of winder better at number three by far
Looks way better at 4/4:30...
Oh I thought I put 3100usd. sorry. I sometimes just convert from the canadian prices I have and they don't translate well. my bad
@@EscapementWatch thanks for prompt response I subscribed to your channel since it real and mainly for seiko watches. I got new SPB187J1 from eBay for only 855$ and before that the SLA021J1 for 2200$ also new before tax beat value anywhere beats all swiss watches I’ve dealt with. Keep making them good videos man.
@@entroheat Thanks bro! I will def try! Hopefully adding GS next year to the channel :)
I have the 300mm and several 200mm reduced Seiko ,is no more than a budget watch even in the high end pieces! How can I say that QC at all levels if you can’t align the bezel and chapter ring I’m sorry you’re just a cheap manufacturer . I own a bunch of them I like them , I wear them but Seiko will never be premium til they fix the QC even at the less than 500.00 level. Even a 200 Chinese. Knock off can align the bezel and chapter ring . No excuses!
The 6r35 is complete garbage, as depicted by your video (and others).
There is no point in comparing a 6R35-powered anything to an 8L35 MM.
300 will actually wear smaller because it has a smaller dial!...the real secret measurement
If you call it "reduced" one more time...
no comparison brother the 200 vs the 300mm nope dont even go there
Watches have to water proof till 15 kilometres deep pressure, and these marine watches have to be at least 500 meters deep proof
First!
The 300, while beautiful, was severely lacking in build quality for a $3K watch.
build quality was lacking? how? hand polish was messed up? hands misaligned? applied indices not straight? chapter ring off? please elaborate.
Severely lacking? Wow I own many $4k - $8k swiss divers and my SLA019 fits right in EASILY except the bracelet/clasp. What was wrong with yours?
Compared to what..it is priced same as Tag AR and are in a different league and levels above in every aspect.
