I love this story personally. I think it’s really fun and a cool mystery with some ambiguity at the end.
It’s nothing amazing but I think it’s really under rated.
Also, ignore whoever keeps telling you that your intros are too long. I miss the Doctor Who bits. Much like the Doctor Who theme, I don’t skip your intro when you upload a new video. I consider it part of the experience and it kinda hypes me up.
I actually really love this episode. A lot of people don't like it but I liked the found-footage style, I love the monster, I love the little ending sequence. And I'm often a fan of the proper one-off Doctor Who episodes that don't tie into the series arc. Though this isn't their best, I think that's often where Doctor Who shines.
Apparently this is a 10 year old script idea by the time it aired. Mark Gattis had been wanting to do this for years but it never quite worked out. You can sort of tell as it doesn’t slot neatly into Series 9.
Written by Mark Gatiss, for his friend Reece Shearsmith, who was the main antagonist, Rasmussen. ( if you want wierd watch these guys in their first TV outing series called The League of Gentleman, written by these and staring them as all the characters that live in a very strange village in England. ) lovely reaction,
Ps, from England, ,, the more I watch this ep the more it grows on me, must go now it's Sleep time.
That explains why Reece played Troughton in An Adventure in Space and Time.
Really looking forward to the next 3.
The next one, one of my FAVESS, I think that along with Midnight is my most revisitas episode
I love this episode, especially, as we actually have no idea wha happened. All we saw was constructed by the bad guy.
I'm so sad you don't plan to watch jodie's run. But we get what we get, I would really like to see your considerations of her era, and hers are even shorter than the usual seasons/series
Totally get having a break in between regenerations. I personally am very excited for you getting to Jodie, whenever that may be, and hearing your thoughts. Each of her series' vary from the last, and have such distinct feels to them too
I liked that this episode really tried to do things differently, I just wish the execution had been better. Also, this episode is standalone. Since this was a two-parter season, I thought the next episode would be part 2 when it first aired, so I was a bit confused until I eventually realized it wasn’t.
Ahhh this one. Yes. With the greatest of respect, I think I'll see you next time!
Heaven sent is approaching
2 WEEKS BOYS
Ngl
I’ve fallen asleep every time I’ve tried watching this episode lol
Ironic
This is a good episode for spooky time
don’t love this one myself (although it’s definitely an interesting concept) but the next three episodes are some of my absolute faves, so looking forward to what you think of them!
Not the greatest but still an Interesting episode.
I wish you added more "frames" in the post discussion phase for us OLED TV viewers ;) OLED TV's don't like still frames for several minutes.
I respect the episode for trying something different and having somewhat of an interesting and clever twist about the cameras, using the format of the episode as found footage to complement the story itself, but the story is just kinda dull and doesn't really go anywhere. Feels like there's a lot more that could've been done with this concept, but it is what it is. Might be overhated due to the fact that every other story is a lot stronger and more interesting than this one so it ends up being kinda forgettable and only gets brought up in conversation when people talk about the worst stories of all time which is kind of a sad legacy for it.
While it's not the best, I think it's a fairly generic but decent monster story. Things I like:
1) Nice sci-fi set design.
2) The camera work makes some scenes look really good.
3) Speaking of camera work, how sometimes you realize, "Wait... who's point of view is this? How is this shot possible?"
4) Murray Gold's soundtrack. Nothing traditionally musical, but it's full of eerie sci-fi atmospherics. For Doctor Who, I personally prefer that over a bombastic orchestra any day.
5) Peter Capaldi's eyes boring straight into my soul.
Story-wise I don't think it's special, but the atmosphere is incredible, and sometimes that's all I'm craving.
Honestly I find this episode is overhated. It’s not a 8/10 but so many people consider it to be among the worst of new who, which I think is just not fair at all. It tries an interesting format and has interesting ideas, it stumbles in the execution but it’s not at all unwatchable. And the atmosphere is great. It’s a failed experiment, and experiments are something I think who should try more often.
yeah i see people say it is the worst of the entire show and like its definitely in the bottom half of episodes but not even bottom 20 for me. i think theres a few episodes i think are definitely worse even if you dont include series 11-13.
Part of it is that it just feels like it's worse than it is because it's surrounded by some of the best doctor who content lol
I just watched this episode for the first time and didn't like it, but that's not my point: Immediately after I watch an episode of DW, I check out your reaction to it. I LOVE your thoughts on the show and don't want to miss them when I come to the Jodie era. So pleeease continue to react to Doctor Who after Series 10. Or at least just do a little break.. 😊
Yeah I can’t really find many positives for this one 😂
I will say, I like the use of Mr Sandman. That was pretty sinister.
kind of just an ok episode but i do respect the ideas and really it is quite unique in some aspects. i think for that alone it's slightly better than its reputation.
Funny how you mention that this episode feels like a setup. Mark Gatiss had actually planned to make a sequel in series 10 (he did not). I still DO hope Gatiss ends up writing this sequel in the future though - altough many people don't like Sleep No More.
I think it's pretty clear with this episode more than any other that it was meant to be a two-parter and they just couldn't get that second episode made for whatever reason
there are a lot of cool ideas but when even the main character of the show is saying "this doesn't make any sense!" in regards to the plot I think maybe you need to rework the story a little bit lol
This story was always a standalone story, but Mark Gatiss has said he thought about writing a sequel to this episode for the next series, though he instead wrote what became 10x9.
Love the idea of the sandmen but apart from that nothing else really special about the episode, If it were a two parter it might have been better
I was the only one of my friend group that simply didnt like this episode. I dont think its bad to like it but it wasnt to my taste.
Please please PLEASE consider watching Jodie's run. There are a lot of mediocre episodes, but it is not nearly as bad as people say, and there are definitely some stand out moment that I am looking forward to seeing how you react!
The bad episode of Series 9
For me, that episode has yet to come.
Each season has a weak episode, but it’s much better than other weak episodes. And one of the only (the only?) episodes where the Doctor loses?
This one ain't great, I guess what they were trying to do was kinda cool but... eh.
If you don't do season 11 atleast decide to cover the upcoming recent seasons with an old favorite back as the doctor!
This is the only episode of Doctor Who that I turned off. Personally, I think this season was pretty weak. I find that the majority of this season didn't really work as two-parters.
