The Strv 103-A in War Thunder is a Swedish MBT according to them. This famous S-Tank from Sweden has a fixed 105mm cannon and the gun is aimed by traversing the hull and adjusting the suspension.
The Strv 103 is really awkward to aim but there has been a huge improvement over the years. I would honestly say it's almost playable. The Swedish Strv takes a lot of patience and the right map in order to make it work. Due to this nature, it's not an easy tank for someone to just pick up and play.
I honestly had a pretty fun experience playing it regardless of some of the frustrating moments I had initially. It might not be perfect, but it certainly is different!

@@ceevee369the funny thing is that they changed it last patch "Significantly reduced occurance of low sun facing one team or the other in ground RB". Why "reduce" and not "disabled" like why?
And the "darknes" is actually fog and rain. Low clouds, fog and rain now all look the same, oh and storm, so we have 4 distinc weathers all looking the exact same in ground RB. that is like 60% of all possible weathers. In an airplane all 4 look fine and distinct.

Well if it's accidental or if the nuke hit you, it would still be your fault anyways. It would have to be something that is looked in by a moderator or something, and not automatic.
But yeah 100% there should be a big negative thing (idk the word but like yeah) if you did do it on purpose.
My first ever nuke was ruined by a friendly plane crashing into me, not like bumping, but like they flew up, and then rammed their plane into my fuselage. Literally that made me Alt-F4 and I went to bed, I was actually heartbroken lol. But that's arcade, it's hell.

The amount of times i've been teamkilled while attempting to fly a nuke in, whether it be by a teammates plane or spaa, its outrageous. Like if an enemy shoots me down, it is what it is, but i shouldnt have to be worried about my own damn teammates doing it, especially in the games that i ended up carrying them to the win because they did absolutely nothing to contribute. Here lately it's gotten so bad that when i do get a nuke, i don't bother spawning it in because i know 9 times out of 10, my team is going to kill me even if its our only chance at winning.

I actually had the most wholesome thing I've seen in WT last week. I had a 1.3 BR 37L Lorraine at 6.7-7.7 BR. A jumbo found me and I said in chat "NO! I just want to live!". He saw my chat, and protected me like a little ducking and guarded me around the map. Later I took down two 5-6.0 BR planes with a ~2.0 french plane and while fleeing I had my plane smoke on and flew over... a jumbo, as the game ended. It turned out to be the same guy from before and he was super happy and cheering me on.
The best button I've found to change hull aim is your scout key. It has a few benefits since this tank does not have scouting it won’t affect any other buttons you might use (caps lock for squad mark for example). Also, it’s normally an easy button to remember since scouting is very important to playing light tanks so you won’t have to worry about using a weird button combo. I've had rreally good games with both the tech tree and premimum versions. In my eyes it's underrated.

I use the Q key as it's closest to the movement for me but this is a great idea.

i use one of the 2 extra buttons on my mouse. Mouse button 5, if you have those extra buttons it´s a game changer. Because i had rangefinder on MB4 and found no other use for MB5 on this tank
Imagine if Morozov and designers of Strv 103 met and worked on the same project? Autoloader not only down below, but also moved to the back(and thus turret and crew too) for easy access fo loading and maintenance, hydraulic suspension that allow the tank to angle and thus removes the issue of depression angles, commander, who has driver override. Likely wouldn't have worked back then on available tech, but would have been a wild design.

Love the new style of uploads just using the first games you get odd, it really helps to show perspective about how even the better players have low kill games and I shouldn’t get mad about the game and my performance. Keep it up!
I just unlock it, I was really hyped by it. Second game, full stock, 5 kills. Its a beast if you know how to position yourself and be patient. You just can't rush into ennemies with it.
The best part is that the entire Swedish tech tree is like that, so if you really put effort into the grind and try to learn how these (mostly) glass cannons work, you can make the Strv 103 work like a charm.
@@hunter_0221I long to go down sweden at some point but early on I just couldnt do it, couldnt even get into 3.0 with them cuz their early apds shells were so finicky when I tried to start them last year, that or Im too spoiled by the pretty decent aphe and apcbc from us tanks

I adore this tank. It is frustrating as f**k sometimes but when it works, it works. It's also the tank I have my only nukes in.
I understand it may or may not be realistic, but the WoT mechanic for the cheese wedge is so much better than the WT version.

@@justancomment4279mechanic is a bit of a stretch. it’s just the way it aims. They don’t account for things like the physics when aiming, It just follows the mouse cursor in a very simplistic manner.

@@DS-wl5pk Accounting for physics is what makes the WT version of these tanks so bad, because WT physics are wonky at best - especially track physics. So indeed, while WoT's hull aiming mode may be less realistic, it's far more playable, and that's that.
I got tkd yesterday in my nuke as well, it’s become very rampant. He was a level 20 and thought it was funny for it.
War Thunder players being dumb makes a lot more sense when you realize how many of the people who play this game are children.

I never used the suspension till about a month ago.
This is one of my favorite tanks in war thunder it can be very op
7:00 yeah pretty much spot on, as youre driving theres little divots and bumps in the road that slightly adjust your elevation, and something about war thunders hull aim, or maybe its a thing in the tank itself irl, but it slows you down by a heap, iirc 15km/h, while it fiddles with your suspension to fix your elevation
This tank does so well "Hull down" fighting from just behind the ridge of a hill. Just such massive survivability if you're able to keep your enemy in front of you, I love this goofy thing.
this thing was what actually got me my first nuke. the secret to getting over the aiming issue was just to play from more than a kilometer away from all of your targets at all times and hope your team has good AA. it was really boring, but it definitely gets results if you're willing to be so passive. the new aiming is absolutely smooth as butter tho, i'm definitely gonna have to try it again.

Can they actually fix the fact it has TWO SEPARATE ENGINES AND TRANSMISSIONS. Just cuz I get a scratch on one engine doesn’t mean i should lose all 4 systems

The lower flat pen shell is much better because it's a much later APDS (let's call it a "gen 3" in WT terms). The "gen 1" APDS in WT is the WW2 stuff that has terrible angled pen and shatters, as it's made from pure tungsten carbide, a very hard but very brittle and "slippery" material.
"Gen 2" APDS is your typical early L7 105 APDS with good flat pen an ok angled pen but again, it shatters because it's still mostly tungsten carbide.
"Gen 3" is the good stuff. High angle pen, doesn't shatter and has fatastic post pen damage, as it's not pure tungsten carbide anymore, so it's much softer and a bit sticky, helping it to not shatter and have good normalization
The M66 shell is the good apds shell. It is the same exact shell as M728 on the m60aos, which doesnt shatter. Intresting fact is that the apds shells have a bit more pen on the cheese wedge than other tanks with the same shells
Strv103 cannon is 10 calibers longer than standard l7

It was designed to be their go-to for any possible conflict. The casemate design is only due to its necessity to be defensive with the looming Russian threat. MBT.

I have nothing but praise for the vehicle apart from a transmission dead situation that could mean the end of you. But even then, if your far enough and good spot, you can repair or be pulled into cover without the risk of being pushed.

This MBT is also able to work on 1 engine, since its designed to use the quiet one when its not crossing land
I'm obviously biased because I'm Swedish but I still genuinely love the Strv 103, maybe especially the A variant. It's probably the single best sniper tank at 8.0 due to the fast reload, good APDS round and laser rangefinder, and of course at distances its frontal armour is absolutely ridiculous. You just have to get used to swapping between hull aim and regular mode every time you move even a little bit, and once that's muscle memory its maneuverability is barely an issue, especially that reverse speed.
It's also surprisingly survivable if your armour does get penned because your engine block is so massive relative to the tank size, fuel tanks are all external meaning you'll burn but not take a lot of damage, and of course you can crawl your way to safety or even keep fighting with just one crewman tucked away in the back. While you can't turn and thus can't aim if you lose your transmission or engine, more than once I've been left sitting for 5 minutes tanking dozens of rounds as enemies frantically try to finish me off to no avail, until a teammate finally saves me - and frankly, watching the enemy get increasingly desperate as they struggle to kill you is funny as hell in its own right.
I absolutely love these tanks - most people don't realise how insane they can be when played aggressively

The first time I met this Tank when I was grinding my Russian Tech Tree (my first tech tree) I was so dumbfounded that I cant pen the tank and was very much surprised to see that it fires fast and boy I mean REALLY fast 😂

The 103A was the tank that got me my first nuke, it also is a consistent 3+ kill tank for me in most games.
Gotta love maps where the goal is to be the fastest team to snipe the enemy spawn...
As a main swedish before changing to brit. Just shoot it's lower plate left/right side to avoid transmission, mostly 80% hits the ammo and kaboom. If not then it's crippled. Even in a 8.0 centurion with APDS.
Loved the video, I did notice that every time you got angry at the tank not turning or driving correctly. You had turned the hull aiming on and was fighting yourself. If you have the hull aiming on try only using W and S then turn with the mouse only, or hold down what ever your free look key is. Although this will slow you down it can help minimize controls fighting each other. Also when fighting on the reverse slope of the hill try ranging were you are looking. The tank shakes more when you bottom out the depression and try turning. I think it has to do with the difference of where your looking and how far the tank can actually move.
Another fun fact, it can still pivot if it’s repairing and the engine and transmission are not destroyed

The 103 is my favorite tank in WT, its funky but everytime i see complaints about it is bc its not a brawler, it's meant for long range combat and holding defensive points.
Challenge: get a nuke with multiple people at a time.

Works best as a support/defensive role, your low enough to easily scoot around low hills. Turning off the suspension while scooting is fastest and most maneuverable
as a sweden you were decentöy close to the pronounciation the strids part was pretty much perfect

Imma be honest, the aiming with this tank never really bugged me nearly as much as the fact it STILL doesn't have its two engines and transmissions. Getting completely immobilized in one shot sucks so hard.

I grided the whole sweadish tree just to get this thing, imo is was worth it just because it's such a unique tank and when it works it feels really good, it's fun if you enjoy the chellenge.

It's best if you have your secondary weapons equipped for machine gun, then you can steer normally like any other tank

I prefer the premium over this do to it has a much "cleaner" look, and yes the lower pen-ing round is the better one, also always carry a few HESH too!
Also didn't the 105G worth it to u to risk the 8.3 BR? Not to mention that even the A29 can carry more than a vampire.

2019 the first one of these was on the pre release store, and here we are, more than half way through 2024 and it looks like they got the jittery aim worked out. ive been using this for the last few days and i wondered why it felt alot better
The "darknes" maps are just one of the following four presets: "Rain", "Fog", "Storm" and certain "low cloud" scenarious. When flying a pane you see the difference, but ever since they reworked the fog in the last major update (not the current one) we have this darknes, sometimes with the halo shining around you
As for the Strv 103 Hull aim. Remember, when introduced it was shit, then they made it absolutely perfect and ever since then it is bad/meh on purpose to keep the vehilce balanced.
and the scene at min 25:00 shows how Op crew skills are. WIthout the Ace crew odds repair would ahve been around 30s (expert and max repair skill n each crewmember) the T55 has around 23s reload with a dead loader and around 5s to change the crew. So he could have killed odd and still have a bit of time. But the Ace made that impossible. Crew skills are still P2W. Getting a crew with full reload, targeting, repair, driving, leadership and other essential skills takes well over 300h of dedicated crew xp grind for each crew. that is just insane. Or you spend 40 bucks on each crew and get it all to where it needs to be
The engines should be modelled separately. Irl the vehicle could run on either engine and the hydraulics were powered by the diesel so if the turbine is knocked out it should still be fully operational, only with reduced HP output. Even with only the turbine running it should still be able to move, just not aim

I once got my transmission knocked out in a cheese wedge as my doorbell went. I managed to go downstairs and collect a parcel and get back upstairs and I was still bouncing shots 😅
War thunder biggest problem in Ground are the maps, i mean its cool they are modeled after Real life places but they are so unfair sometimes or just simply no fun.
I would love to see them try balanced maps thats made from there ideas just to see if it would be better :D

To be fair, ive never been killed in one shot in the 103's. They shoot you like 7-10 times before they kill you due to your tank being able to survive with 1 crew member
De Haviland Vampire? You didn't mention that in the title. On the first map did someone spawn an A10? Whatever it was had a fire rate of 2K a minute, like tearing canvas.
