    This week I have sat down to chat with you all about virtual running events, what they are, how they work and what ones I have done! I also speak about how they really helped me in the early stages of my running journey.     I really appreciate your videos! I just can't identify with these mostly extreme fit male TH-camrs 😁I lost 33 kg since 1.1.2022 and am walking and weight lifting. Walk 5 times a week up to 20km and hope to be allowed to run soon (had my 4th spine surgery 6 months ago and need to build enough muscle to do so safely). But I enrolled in a half marathon at 31.12. So I WILL do it either running or walking. Hopefully running. Or crawling 😅 thanks for posting!

      I understand, this is why I’m here, to be a bit more relatable 😆 Wow you have done amazing!! All that hard work is paying off and you have booked a half marathon too 🙌🏼 I LOVE the attitude you have of finishing it no matter what. I just know you will smash it! Keep going 💪🏼

    I had no idea these existed. Thank you so much for this video. I signed up and started my first one after watching your video, and it was the most pleasant walk I've ever had. Walking through town, but also virtually walking through Prague added such a joy -- and it got me out of the house 🙂

    I absolutely love the conqueror challenges. Me and my bestie started walking them during lockdown. We choose LEJOG to start. The medals are beautiful and I can never wait to finish the challenge so I can receive my medal 🤣

      They are great 🏅🙌🏼 I love the LEJOG medal! My husband already had it so I was very pleased when I got hang mine up on my side 😆 I get impatient too 🤣

    I am perhaps not your usual viewer being a man in his fifties that has spent most of his life playing sport and training accordingly. I have only been a long distance runner for six years having previously specialised in sprinting and shorter distances for my rugby and athletics. The reason I have given you some background is to put what I have to say in some context. Well done Lucy, you are literally one in a million for doing what you’ve done, keep going with your running and the videos.
    For those of you who are too embarrassed to try running don’t be. When I see someone running who is overweight and unfit I think well done to that person and I certainly don’t find it amusing. Most people that have always exercised think the same way I do. Give it a go and don’t give up. Only advice is don’t do to much too soon and don’t be afraid to walk and run with long breaks as you will still get better.
    Remember if you run you are a runner. There are no speed requirements.

    Wow I did not know about virtual events.. They sound helpful, I am not running yet.. I just walked 4 miles in 88 mins.. This might be something I look into

    That's so cool that you do these! I just started my first challenge early in January. It really keeps me motivated. I know there have been days when I would have decided to skip my workout, but the challenge was enough for me to run/walk even on those days when I really didn't want to.

    That was fascinating! I’m definitely going to look into those.
    I did a virtual half marathon just over a year ago. It was pushed to virtual due to Covid. But there was no medal and I was devastated. I then did the Auckland bays run 8km virtually too and did get a medal.
    Love the idea of these others.
    I’m pulling myself out of my slump. 🥰

      Just signed up to the Conquer app. I’m going to do the Yosemite challenge first. I’ve given myself 5 weeks 😊

      That’s such a shame you didn’t get a medal for it! I would have been gutted 😩 Take your time and always be kind to yourself, you will be out of that slump when you’re ready ❤️

    This is what I’m doing! As a Disney fan they have virtual races. I have three 5ks to do so I can get their 100th anniversary medals. I want those medals!! I signed up for more in Feb. Hoping I can keep this up and then do a real race at Disney World in 2025. I want to run through the parks!
    I already have Conqueror medals but I just used my daily normal walking to get the medals. These Disney ones I’m treating like real events where I do the 5k all in one go

    Lucy, thank you for recommending the Conqueror challenges. I signed up for Transylvania. I've been doing it on my exercise bike and it's been very motivating! I'm already thinking about my next challenge. I think I will run/walk the Cote d'Azur. I'm really enjoying getting to see far off places! And it's been inspiring me to get out of bed and move in the morning! 🤗

    Just found your channel and I love it! I have dabbled in running in the past. I did a half marathon in 2019 but since then I've had two babies and basically haven't run since. I joined a local group of ladies that run. We've been for one run but it got me back into it and I have been looking for running someone on here who I can relate to with my running and I found you! Thank you so much for creating your content! I am loving it. I work for a charity so I have always known about virtual charity running events but didn't know there were others out there too. I have also never had the urge to do a virtual event but now I do! I like the idea of one I could do over a period of time so that each time I go out I'm clocking up my miles for one of the challenges. Thanks so much for this idea.
    Also I'd love to see a Q&A if you did make one 🥰 Thank you again for all you are doing to help other people that want to run ❤️

    I'd never think of myself as a sociable runner, but I do like the in person events. I do like that the virtual ones exist though for those who prefer that, or like you people who want to do both! 😄
    Question for Q&A: Do you watch any of the other running TH-camrs? (I watch quite a few!)

      I used to have a weekend running buddy but she’s moved away 🙁 We are both army wives so one of us was always gonna move away eventually lol. Other then that I tend to run on my own 🏃🏻‍♀️ Great question! I’m putting it on my list 😀

      I’m so happy you have been enjoying it! I would but my husband isn’t a fan of being on camera like that 😆 He’ll come along on a run with me but that’s about his limits 😂 Love the idea though and maybe in the future he will be more comfortable doing it.

    Another cracking video Lucy, I’d never considered virtual races before but I’ve just signed up for the Machu Picchu race! And my Q+A for you:
    How do you motivate yourself to get out and run when the mind says “nope not today”? Do you have any little wins to push yourself on a meh’ day?

    You totally sold me on this Lucy! I live quite far from most races and don’t want to have to travel just to run a 5 km (especially when you’re towing your 4 year old with you!). I also really like the idea of being able to log every mile, I’ve been sick and it’s been -30 here for a few weeks and i was still able to get out for a few runs….which SHOULD be a win, but then I look at my training plan and see all the runs I missed - it can be disheartening. But being able to still log the few runs would have totally changed my mindset. So thanks again for another great vlog and all the inspiration! I’m off to go find a virtual race now!

I understand not being able to get out and race 🫤 I wish I could race more but at least the virtual medals help fill the gap 😀 I hope you find one you like and I hope you love it as much as I do 🤞🏼

      Hi Clancy, you can always record also with free running apps. I love to see how much distance I walked and how much time per km I made. I can also eg day : I'm doing 10 km and just go into the woods without thinking about a route to achieve that. I just go 5 k wherever and then turn around.

    In 2020, I did a couple of virtual team challenges through Racery. One was Reno, Nevada to Lake Tahoe and all the way around the lake. It was fun watching my team's progress on the map and the organizers sent us photos as we passed landmarks, which was cool. The second virtual race I did was across Nevada from Utah to California (320 miles). My team came in 3rd!!

    Thank you for this info! I was only aware of signing up for a local 5k/whatever distance and doing the virtual version. THIS Conquer thing looks GREAT!
    Q: What strength training have you gotten into? I think you mentioned it lately. I keep hearing differing runners say that they keep their core (wrap around middle so upper/lower abs, obliques, back) fit and their glutes tight to carry their bodies properly. I certainly need a core routine. What can you share with us about this part?

    I hate this question, but it's at the foremost of my mind. How do you feel about makeup on the internet? I notice you wore more makeup before you started running and now you usually do your videos without makeup and I wanted to know what are your thoughts upon this aspect of TH-cam. Also, do you cook differently as a runner? What do you like to cook? Sorry, for these sort of boring questions but I would love to know what you think about these things.

    Hello Lucy! Thank you so much for all the helpful content. I have a question about achy joints when beginning running while carrying extra weight. I find this to be an issue and it will stop my running for many days, which puts me back to square one. Did you find this to be a problem, or did starting your running on the treadmill (which has more cushion) help avoid this problem? Thanks!
