When I started my weight loss journey and started training to be a runner, I looked all over for a relatable person who did it! I needed to see someone like me who was getting out there and smashing it! I didn't have the confidence to go outside and run because I thought I was too big, and worried about being judged!
WELL after searching online I found loads of inspiring people but no one who looked like they had the same struggles as me! That's when I decided to be the overweight, sweaty, not care what people think person that I needed to see. I found my confidence, lost 70lbs and even ended up running a marathon!!
I'm here to be your virtual running buddy :) Let's get out and do this together because if I can do it...SO CAN YOU!

I've always thought that running is a form of meditation. When I first started running, I would get terrible side cramps. The solution has been to breathe in for 3 steps, breathe out for 2 steps. I have run that way for years. It's also a form of meditation and really helps me focus and relax.
My first 5 mile race, a man had put his stereo system out in his front yard and was blasting Eye of the Tiger. I was so pumped for the last 1.5 miles! 🐅 😂
Hehe, Storm...do you hear Lucy reading comments about you? Do you know you have achieved doggy celebrity? Well you have, you handsome boy! Love the hat. I love wearing a hat. Loss of a child...is so heartbreaking. I am so sorry for that family. A childhood family friend of mine just lost their young, adult son unexpectedly. The funeral was beautiful, but I had to use some of my own alone time to let the emotions out later. They reminded us to make things right with your family or with God, whatever you need to freely as soon as possible because any day could be your last. (Of course I would add a respectful caveat that with others, even family sometimes, if a person isn't safe not to feel responsible to that with them.) I hope my run counted but I ran out of time before anyone else was available, and before it was dark and raining, so I ran in place while keeping a promise to watch Charlotte's Web with my kids. I just put on a 40-min timer and let it go until it ran out. But my legs are sore and I got a little sweaty so I think it counted! 😂 I'll say a prayer for that family. I can relate to watching my own self make better choices when times like these hit, these days. Yes. Process emotions instead of stuffing emotions (or our faces). It is SO much healthier! Cheers!

Loving runmas! And working through grief is so important. And it's also healthy and important for you to allow yourself to grief. Losing my mom was so hard 2 years ago, and therapy was really helpful ❤

I was really looking forward to your video. I was thinking about it as I went out for my run. Running allows you to be with yourself. Your mind can just process what it needs to. I think of it like defragging your files on the computer. You needed to process. And anytime anyone loses a child, it can bring out a lot in anyone. And today, I was thinking about why I run. That can always help motivate. Great run!
So happy to see your Vlogmas!!!! I have been sick for 6 weeks and catching up! I can say that not being able to run plus being in a very stressful time of my life resulted in eating...a lot. Somehow running is also a coping tool and if it is not available for a long time it's not good. But this week I started walking again. 2k feel like 25. But hey. Moving forward, thats all we can do, not looking back 🙂, because life is not linear in its ups and downs (and thats a good thing!).

Thank you for the advice. I learned how to swim recently. I was scared of the deep end. Long story short, I took some classes and am getting better as time goes on. Don't worry about people ,if you think about it, they are worried about their own issues in their own thoughts. ❤

Lucy my mom recently passed away from cancer and I haven't been consistent at all. Sometimes I have already gotten ready and dressed (also with a high ponytail hat like yours. Really cute by the way) and instead of running I just sit and cry. Maybe today I will go for a quick run anyhow... Thank you for sharing. I really needed to hear this

Lucy, I am enjoying runmas. There is no wrong or right time for grief. It’s been 3 years since my grandmother passed and my mom has trouble even looking at pictures. And I like the hat. 🧢🏃🏻♀️🌈

Running helps me process and grieve. I also know my brother and aunt would want me to keep moving my body and keep being a wife and mother. It gets hard crying while running. Sometimes I gasp for the next breath
It does get hard to run while crying 😅 My breathing starts to get awful, thankfully it comes in waves and doesn’t last super long for me ❤️🏃♀️
I haven't been feeling well lately (fibromyalgia flare), but ive been watching your videos to help motivate me. I know I can't go for a run yet, but I will be walking later today!

That’s really kind of you to say, I just don’t want it to look like I’m doing this everyday 😆 I started filming this series early so I could make sure to have breaks in between as I’m coming back from injury.
@lucyshawvlogs oh! Ok. I thought they were done back to back and was surprised since I knew you had been injured. That makes total sense!! You are badass anyway.
Anytime I hear "bear with" I think of Tilly from the show, Miranda. (I miss that show-I think I always related a little too much with her awkwardness and clumsiness.) 😄 It is really hard with hills, for me, to start off or have to end with them! That's a fun thought! You could be the talk of the base a little bit...as in, "The last running wife we had here was in 2016" or something like that. Who knows! 🤩 Calories, yes. There are a lot of running articles about "carbo-loading" or "calorie-loading" day before a race. Same here, too! I hate going to the ER (A&E, here)...it can take SO long. And a family visit on top of that? Bless you. Hopefully Chloe kept the in-laws occupied. ;) I hope Matt is healing and I'm glad you recovered from the exhaust. I live somewhere in the world where obesity and morbid obesity is very common and the collective mindset is that by my age, you just let yourself be fine with it. If you can't, you are some type of "better than you" type. So, for me, I've had to just close off from not caring about that judgement or not getting sucked into giving in, while living in health and hoping it inspires others, bc like you, I'm just a regular person doing the best she can and seeing progress, not bc I think "I'm better than" but because this is important to me. Love how you said what you did, too. ❤ Alright, so...I had to get my run going today by a certain time and for where I am I don't see these pop up until its afternoon. I felt like today was the best day possible, and went for the 120 minutes. I did it! (Barely, lol.) And got my first 15k in there, too! I'll swap out your 120 min day with this 5-miler, but it will all get done! 😁 I stopped 5 times for a total of 17 minutes but the rest of the 2:17:13 total was running. Speaking of head chat, I argued with myself in my head, hearing myself trying to make excuses and then talking myself back into finishing the WHOLE time. (Partly bc I had stomach cramps-which never happens when I run.) Plus, I made myself go out an hour before heading back and it was getting colder with rain in the forecast I had to beat so that helped motivate me! 😂 Time to do my own massive stretch-out before some zzzs!

I used to say such awful things to myself. One day I decided on a new rule - I had to be at least as kind to myself as I would be to a complete stranger. Then I worked my way up to the point of speaking to myself with the kindness I would have for a friend. My “brain weather” - my whole life - is so much better now that I’ve completely fallen out of the habit of being nasty to myself, and I default to “honest but kind”. We really do shape our own realities.

I haven’t started my fitness journey yet-I’ve joined the gym specifically to go swimming, but have been too anxious to go. I went for a nature walk last week however, which was really nice! I’m new to your channel, and hope to get into running soon. Thank you for inspiring me!
I understand the anxiety! ❤️ I promise that if you just get out there and go for the first few swims it will feel more and more normal after that. I used to be so self conscious about so many things when I thought about running outside, it made me not even try for years and years. I love your videos and they inspire me to keep going in my own journey. I feel like we both have a ton in common. I’m currently down with a stress fracture in my right foot. It’s been over 8 weeks since I last got to run and I miss it so much. I worry too because I feel like I will be starting back up from square one lol. I just love Storm too! I own a little version of him. Mine is an Alaskan Klee Kia and I ran with her in a 5K race once and we won! Woah lol. Anyway, I have a new TH-cam channel, super small lol. Oh no! I hope you get better soon 😫🤞 Try not to worry! When I was going through my recovery I thought about my fitness going away too often and it turned out I was worrying over nothing. It was tough but I didn’t lose much fitness at all after 3 months of no running ❤️

I’m running in Finland and the temperatures dropped below 0 some weeks ago. A wonderful idea I had was making myself a cup of hot chocolate after cold runs! It’s warm AND has good macros for recovery! Though to be honest, I don’t find 0 to -5 degrees that cold once I get used to it, it’s quite nice and comfortable with the right layers. Heat is much more difficult for me!

[Puts ‘Auntie’ hat on] I may be the only one with this cautious view, but Lucy please, please, please put your running health and injury recovery *ahead* of whatever the hat gives you as a run time/distance. A recovery programme for running can be totally scuppered by non-adherence to the plan, and it would be really, really awful to see you injured again because the hat dictated it. [Takes Auntie hat off.] Great video, as ever, and like everyone else, I’m loving Storm’s rather prominent cameo appearances! 😊
Oh you’re so lovey for saying that, I really appreciate it ❤️ I started filming for Runmas early so I can make sure I’ve got extra time between runs incase I need it. I made the decision that if I don’t feel like I can go for 2 hours on that day then I won’t be pulling a time out the hat. Some runs have been one day apart and others have been two or three days apart. I’m always listening to my body in that sense. I hope I’ve reassured you ❤️❤️
I want to say that no, I never film military stuff on my runs. I'm so afraid of the wrong people looking at it. On our base there are sometimes people who take pictures of planes that go in and out and that's highly suspicious. So I would never share that online.
