As a Pico PCVR user I see this as an absolute win ! If the replacement of the Streaming assistant is better overall and consumes less ressources, I'll be able to have a better experience with my gaming laptop since it isn't the best (and I maybe won't even have to buy VD)
Yes, the only looser is the VD developer here. :D His app might have been the most sold in the whole Pico store and it will become obsolete after Pico Connect will go public. Not only because of the quality but Pico connect offers way more features from full body, to face tracking and possible addition even of hand tracking later.
I'm not sure about the low end systems though. As I have tested it only on high end WiFi6 router and I have been running VD on Ultra/Godlike resolutions. So I'm comparing max settings to max settings.
@@MrTechcat I guess we shall wait and see. But VD did serve a good interface for PCVR and still does when Streaming assistant was still in its infancy. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Its after Lunar New Year for Chinese headset was what the mod said on their forum under pico connect 10.0.16 beta release thread.
hi mr tech can i ask when im using streaming assistant using hd setting and my steam vr video render setting it will be default set auto instead custom 100%(2160x2160). when set auto and im running any game it will be default auto set 150%(2664x2664) scaling instead using custom 100%(2160x2160). so which one to choose auto 150%(2664x2664) or custom 100%(2160x2160).
This is normal, steam renders at 150% and downscales to make the view look better. But if you don't have a good PC to run higher res lowering to 100% will give you better performance. Actually, you should be running on max ultra settings in Pico Connect and lowering steam render back to 2.6K or 2K it will still give you better quality without an impact on performance.

I have switched to Pico Connect already even it still has some bugs.
Pico Connect allows to adjust brightness with contrast and colors and that alone is a huge improvement. VD looks dark, washed and muddy in comparison now.
VD taxes PC a lot at max Godlike resolution, so even Pico Connect runs at a lower res and bitrate I do like the final result better overall because of upscaling and colors, plus you get much better performance from upscaling instead rendering +3,7K res to downscale.

@@zakr1187no. Pico proved themselves incapable and slow in software development. Quest 3 will most probably have a much better support

there is no Pico Connect in FW 5.9.1 and you will not be able to get it before it's released public.

You've put in the description that you're testing this on a new Pico headset.does this mean it's a new separate headset from the Pico 4 or is it a Pico 4 headset that's new to you?
It's my old Pico 4 but after the update it feels like upgrading to a completely new headset because screens are sharper and produces better colors.
New standalone games look like after upgrading to a much more powerful chip, except that Pico just uses AI upscaling to achieve higher resolution standalone graphics instead like the Quest 3 putting way more power hungry chip that constantly overheats and drains battery 2x faster.
@@MrTechcat hopefully that will make the streaming assistant app better too.i only use my Pico 4 for pcvr.so far I've seen a huge difference in quality over the quest 2 but I still feel there's room for improvement when I use it wirelessly.ive never used virtual desktop so I can't compare it to that but surely there's a way that they can make streaming assistant the same or better than VD

How did you get the update?
I want really interesting innovations in 2024. There is nothing stopping them from making Mixed Reality like Quest 3: There is a color camera (albeit worse), there is hand tracking. Just give the opportunity to simultaneously launch several browser windows and other applications, and preferably in transparency mode - it will be excellent.
Quest 3 mixed reality looks like vomit and the headset is overheating with just a single window with hands tracking in MR already.
just ordered hons vr lenses, they are on sale for 30$ shipped, piece of mind will be great

Hi, are you certain everything on screen got the super resolution upscaling?
Im asking because my chinese pico 4 is on Chinese beta 5.9.3 but my environment still looks blurry. Only the Pico Connect got really nice picture quality.
Mountains environment definitely looks sharper over the old Pico home. Same with Breachers much sharper overall and way bigger sharpness circle with variable shading now.
@@MrTechcat thanks for replying. Yea, stand alone games seem sharper too. I just cant perceive environment sharper though. Are you on 5.9.3 Chinese beta or higher?

I talked a friend into updating his pico to 5.9.1 global beta. But his visual looks worse. Gaming looks jagged. Environments look bad also.
He used the version downloaded from Omowushi. Is your version also from the same site?
Did they fix the depth correction in the passthrough mode?
Seems like they did, but it's hard to tell from the TH-cam video.
Dilemma. Damn. I ordered Pico 4 today, and now i dont know upgrade to 5.9 or not... If not upgrading, i must to buy Virtual desktop. But if upgrading i dont have posibility try sideloaded games. This is my first vr glasses. Maybe you can give advice?
you can use streaming assistant on the old FW. You don't need to buy VD straight away.
I miss my old Pico 4 headset, especially the lenses 😅 Now I'm hooked on Quest 3 and that's fine also. But I kind of liked Pico 4 more

It will only come public later this year.

@@mehblah4205 I think, officially beta ends this week. So it should come soon but might be delayed as there are still some bugs.

@@mehblah4205 the game is Dance Dash Demo it's free on Steam. I do like it more over the Blitz Rhythm Beta which is over and the full game has been canceled.

Is it with normal Pico 4 or Pico 4 Entreprise?
If eye tracking and face tracking is mentioned, it is very very important, to let that be known. The PICO 4 and PICO 4 Enterprise are very different HMD when it comes to those two options.
So an answer is needed for that question, before people go out buying the PICO 4, thinking it will come with those options, and it does not.

As proud owner of PICO still believe of their future, next updates, models and success, despite how western ignorants imagine free market and blocking their sale in US and almost EU aswell. I even wanna believe that with PICO 5 they will buy out the version 4 and offer version 5, or at least some Trade-in program discount, but that's probably sweet dream ;) Neverless, I would be interested where you got the FW 5.9 as I have latest Global 5.8.2 nothing more what i could download, or is this only Mac thing?? Secondly, how could "Pico connect offers way more features from full body, to face tracking and possible addition even of hand tracking" as my PICO 4 doesn't have face tracking cams, or somehing better adjusted for full body tracking...does it?? Why they don't implement body tracking by cameras as quest 3? I'm going to buy a quest 3 only for this...i already had a pico 4.
