Pinning this comment to be transparent - I wasn't able to try anything like Steam VR because my laptop apparently just couldn't support the output. I tried Everspace, which I'd normally get a solid 60fps in, over WiFi it was a solid 5. Wired wouldn't work at all!
Oh and apparently there are AR features which you can activate by double tapping the headset? But I didn't find this out until after I'd finished editing. 🫠
Pico 4 is what I've used for Steamvr for over a year and I can confirm it works great
seems more like hardware issues on your end. I wouldnt personally recomend steam vr for anyone on laptops. VR is demanding and will cause gps to over head in laptops without a doubt.
@mywaffle2507 Oh totally an issue on my part, we just weren't prepared to use Steam with this thing. Wish we did, but can't have everything lol
And as a cherry on top Everspace is notorious for poor performance in VR even on higher end pc's. I can run Alyx maxed out on Ultra/godlike virtual desktop settings but not Everspace.
Lol. You do realize the quality of the resolution is the same as the quest 3. I have both and can tell you that the quest 3 is actually worse as you can see diagonals on most edges in PCvr. Color is not as bright, but seems more natural and realistic. As for the passthrough camera, does what it needs to. Not that much contet in mixed reality yet. There is a new software update coming soon that will improve it. As for Apple, not interested in selling a Kidney just to buy into it and their ecosystem.

@@UnboxNChannel Hehe, the resolution of the P4 is even slightly higher than the Q3 without the darkens borders probs. I was very disapoited what 'Meta' was thinking to give to their customers when I watched the Q3 specs and tests. Too bad that Bytedance-managers are so stupid not capable to allow developers unleash the full P4 potential.
Pico4 has slightly higher resolution than Quest3. Pico4 has 4.7MP while Quest3 had 4.6MP.
These have been out over a year and were released as a competitor to the Quest 2, there are a tonne of reviews and reddit posts for this great headset... but buying one now is maybe not a good idea. Due to USA blocking sales there, this meant it did not get the sales needed and the company recently had massive layoffs. Better off paying a bit more for the Quest 3.
Interesting, wasn't aware of that. It's a shame because with more backing behind this, a newer generation could have been a serious competitor.
@@UnboxNChannel sadly the pico 5 has been cancelled as of a few weeks ago and the company behind it have said they will work on a new high end headset instead.. maybe looking to compete with Apple.
Its still a great headset.. performance is on par with quest 2 but resolution and lenses are more related to quest 3. If you want the headset for pcvr its fantastic.

The quest 2/3 are both a better choice just for the available library of games and productivity apps. But as a pc vr headset it’s a very good choice

Pico has not layed off all of their staff just a percentage as Amazon and Microsoft have also just done, this is due to the Pico 5 being cancelled for the foreseeable future as they want to make a headset to rival Apple and the Pico 4 will be fully supported going forward, be careful when reading other comments regarding this video, most probably from a Meta fan boy!
Have owned a few VR headsets in the past, but I really enjoy Pico the most. But I mostly use it to work in Immersed, watching regular TH-cam and movies, and some light standalone gaming (like Alvo fx). For all of that it's a perfect headset.

The reason why youtube and maybe other apps wasn't working good because it needs software update , trust me i had 2 both same issue, do a software update and all work super fast and nice! Both controllers and headset will have an update! The thing is they are not making new pieces and all pieces still come with ver early stage of software which obviously has a lot of bugs

The pico 4 looks so cool
First thing valve index has worse screen door effect than the pico 4 but has higher resolution and for a standalone vr headset you need the cameras for tracking so you cant ditch them

Ive loved my pico since day one. I had quest go all way up. And my pico just stays my vr choice. Pcvr is awesome. Ohhh and bikini clad woman on pico vid lol if thats your thing. But love it. And if it dies the large community will keep it going . Great vid 👌

The lacklustre graphics card at the least matches oculus quest 2 which is what it was competing against. The pico 4 resolution is in fact better than the oculus quest 2 but not 3. I think this review will annoy a few people because it seems to presume the graphics should be better, but given how much lighter the headset is than the competition, i think it stands up well.
The graphics in the games are passable for a budget headset, it's more the 'Pico Experiences' that objectively suck. They really give off the "we have a Meta Quest at home" vibe.
@@UnboxNChannel I think it's important to note how light the headset is and how well distributed the weight is. The design is better than the competition in this regard. I've not played the Pico experiences but given that a much richer company is stifling the competition it doesnt surprise me their software's a bit lame. They still made a better headset hardware-wise than meta quest 2 which to me says alot. You can only judge the device by the standards of the time. The graphics are passable because of the tech at the time.
@@joltee9317Again, the rendering capability is fine given the age and budget. What's not fine is the prerendered experiences that are just glorified 360 videos - they're basically all terrible. One was a 20-odd fps GTA V clip with a Spider-Man mod. Another was some Minecraft optical illusions ripped straight from TH-cam. Some of the other built in experiences were basically softpore corn. I judged a lot based on those.
Do bear in mind I praised the Pico a lot for its hardware and design! That, I have no issues with at all.

the pico 4 doesnt resemble the vision pro, the vision pro resembles the pico 4, which came out 2 years ago
The pico 4 is NOT a vision pro knockoff, its a completely different product, its a VR headset, from a WELL established VR company thats been making VR headsets for almost a DECADE now. It feels like a premium product because IT IS a premium product.
Dont Test it or review it with the "oh cheap vision pro knockoff" idea in your mind
Also in 5:33, the mobile chipset inside the pico 4 is one of the most powerfull (not the most) mobiles chipsets out there, the Snapdragon XR2, which was made SPECIFICALLY for VR/AR hardware
Alson in 6:47, the pico 4 has one of the HIGHEST resolutions (4k per eye) of any vr headsets out there (even headsets well over 1000$) , its very hard to find a headset with the same resolution as the pico 4 under 2000$ dollars, which of course in turn makes the screendoor effect pretty much almost invisible so im not sure what you saw was the screendoor effect and not some kind of artifact since at 4k per eye the screendoor effect is just not there
Also in 9:27 WHAT DO YOU MEAN "if you're a resolution snob save for an index"? LIKE WHAAAT? you know the valve' index resolution is SO MUCH WORSE right? not even reaching 2k per eye
The index (which costs) 1000$ has a resolution of 1,440 by 1,600 pixels per eye pico 4 has a resolution of 2,160 x 2,160 pixels per eye, quite literally the DOUBLE
You can really tell the lack of the research went into making this video just by that last sentence.
9:59, every time you said "less than ideal" resolution i laughed, because once again, this is the best resolution you'll find in any headsets for less than 2000$

Hey genuinely, I appreciate the feedback. In retrospect, I am well aware there are areas we could perform better, and it's something I personally really want to improve on. As mentioned in the video, I have basically zero experience with VR - but you're right! I should have done better research on this. As I haven't used VR before, I genuinely assumed that given the lower price tag of this headset in particular, that more expensive alternatives would have a higher res - but that is a total oversight and frankly stupid of me to have not done my research on. Same with mentioning the hardware at 5:32.
However... I stand by the other things I say. the screen door effect? It *is* there, otherwise I wouldn't have mentioned it. I wasn't even looking for it and it was (mildly) distracting.
I did not, and do not consider this to be a knockoff Vision Pro. 'Knockoff' implies I think this is a cheap imitation of the VP; I do not. It makes zero sense to assume that, given it came out long before the VP was even announced. The title refers to the design looking the same, and that's it. I literally explain this in the first ~30 seconds of the video.
Lastly - yes, this feels like a premium product hardware and OS-wise. The built in experiences though? Sorry, not at all. The vast majority of them straight up sucked.
@@UnboxNChannel you can't rate the headset based on the built-in experiences, especially when the built in experiences were NOT made by pico, but by third parties, that's the same as saying "hey this playstation 5 sucks" after playing a game you didn't like. Similar to a console, it's nothing more than a platform to play games made by other studios. The built in experiences can't make use of the entire 4k per eye resolution the pico has, I recommend trying to use it on a PC to play steamvr games, using virtual desktop to connect to the PC.
But, Pico can control what is shown by default. Literally one of the first things to choose from a clean install is a couple of girls in bikinis having a pillowfight. Doesn't exactly scream quality.
If Apple or Meta (or the PS5 for that matter) had the same content showing as default on their respective stores, I'd be harsh on them too 🤷🏻♂️
The Pico 4 came out way before the vision pro even got announced it came to challenge the Quest 2 apple probably copied this headsets design

the pico 4 default apps are just garbage, You need to install 3rd party software to make the headset worthwhile
it also looks like you are missing out on a software update, The preformance gets way better

Do not buy pico! It’s a dead headset. There parent company has stopped development and layed off all there employees. So they will not be having new games or experiences coming DO NOT BUY. Get a quest 3 instead.
They laid off 50% of their employees to focus more on development from what I was told.

Yep, some apps run from headset are like from various stages of game evolution. In PCVR Pico 4 is better. PCVR gaming with SteamVR can be great. Outside of SteamVR it can be frustrating/enjoyable because it is a bit wildwest. So many settings and ways to play with.
