  • Today I am reviewing the Code of Bell X-Pak EVO. It’s a utilitarian sling that can be used for all sorts of activities and use-cases. It has awesome materials and a specifically cool aesthetic. There’s a lot going on here; it’s an intricate piece with a high learning curve.
In the video I keep calling it the “X Pack” when really it’s supposed to be called “Cross Pack.” It’s my bad, but seriously, had I not watched any of their videos or be part of the community, I would not have know that. The name is trying too hard to be cool.

This bag is certainly better as a backpack. The harness kit is certainly a game changer for this bag

You’re probably right. Unfortunately, the harness was sold out for many months and even when I reached out to COB, they wouldn’t tell me when they expected more. The thing is, I would argue that for the cost of the sling plus the harness, there are so many other amazing backpacks out there that would do the job much better without the complications.

@@ofthetraveler agreed, before i got the harness. I liked it but it certainly felt its gonna dislocate my arm one day. About the price. Perhaps i got it with the early bird price In Malaysia which was 180 usd. Before I got the harness i opted as well for other backpacks. Just to revive the usage of this bag I pounced on the harness kit and its serving me pretty well

Pro tip (regarding the complaint about the buckles that secure the outer “duffel” pocket (the ones that tend to block opening the “backpack” compartment: instead of clipping that to where it blocks that main zip, clip it to the other clip that’s at the bottom of the sling, securing the bottom of the duffel pocket - they clip together and get out of the way….that way, you only need to use those if you’re using the big duffel pocket.

Thanks for the thorough and honest review! Really appreciate how you give a fair and down to earth thoughts on this bag! May I ask from your experience with the bag, do any of those buckle (fid-lock included) or sling clamp and G-hooks undo themselves self easily? And can the bag fit a 15 inch laptop anywhere in the main compartment (not necessarily the padded laptop area)?

Hey Ivan, thanks for the kind words. Glad I could provide some assistance. The fidlocks and g-hooks are solid, never had an issue with anything coming undone; I think you can be pretty confident of it’s staying closed and cinched. As for the laptop, I am not sure, my laptop is a 13.5 inch Surface Book 2 and that was a tight fit. It’s possible their website may shed some light of what size laptops it’ll hold. Sorry, mate.

I appreciate your honest and fair review. I don’t have an X-Pack, but I had concerns about the form and build of it. you validated every concern. Thanks!

Thanks, man. Form is definitely weird, although, I would say that the build quality is great. There was no loose stitching, everything aligned (except for how the latch points get in the way of the zippers). Still, I am happy that the video helped you make an informed decision either way!

Great review man. I’d go mad trying to deal with some of those quirks. Like their other bags, it looks great if you’re going for that techwear vibe. But as in their other bags, by creating so many ways to carry it, the bag lacks a polished experience for any one of them.

That’s a perfect way to describe the issue with the X-Pak and the X-Pod, you nailed it. Thanks for comment, I appreciate it!

“When I opened the zipper, I always get into the wrong compartment…” haha, same here😂

I am using this bag by 2 week and I like it the problem for me is the weight of the bag.
For the upside down pocket the reason of this strange thing it's that you can access in the outside compartment from the bottom of the bag meanwhile you are using it

    • @ofthetraveler

Nice! How’s it working out for you? What do you use it for?

What a mess. You did a good job showing the pitfalls of the bag without bashing it.

I can't decide whether to buy this or the arcilite sling, wish the arcilite's main compartment had better organization in the main pocket. But I think this is a bit too much liters.
