  • Review of the all new 2018 Harley Davidson Breakout Special! 114 cubic inch motor! Monoshock! And sorry guys I mistakenly said mid comtrols when I was talking about placement. The bike has forward controls, I had mids on my mind! Ha. 35 pounds lighter and handles much better! Whole new bike! 3.5 gallon tank. I will be doing all the other models here shortly too! The 2018 fatboy 2018 Fat Bob 2018 heritage classic 2018 street bob and more!! (DISCLAIMER: I do not sell motorcycles, or aid in the sale of motorcycles, this is an opinionated review based on my knowledge).

    I been wanting a breakout since 2013. Heard bad reviews on the handling. But I was still interested in it anyway. I stop by my nearest H.D. dealer and immediately can tell the difference from the other models. Not even the 3.5 gallon tank didn't stop me from bringing it home. Great review and great channel.

    Great video, thanks! Today I test rode a 107 BO. My experience is my own 2017 103 Low Rider. The 107 pulls really stronger and runs smoother at low revs. You can ride it with 1500 rpm. The suspension is stable and stiff; it is nimble enough. The sound is not so organic than the sound of the TC, and it needs another exhaust. And: I really miss the vibes of the DYNA and the clunk, when I shift in first gear. On the M8 there you hear nothing! The gages are very modern - but you have it right before your eyes and must not look down like on traditional Harleys, especially on the Low Rider. The look of the new BO is great. In my eyes it is the most beautiful Harley-Davidson - and perhaps in next spring....

      Toni R I can agree a little on the sound. But with the EPA breathing down Harley Davidsons neck I could imagine they went through a lot to try to keep it as genuine as possible whilst still follow their guidelines. I did hear a new fatbob with a full two brothers exhaust system and it sounded fantastic!

    I didn't buy my Breakout to handle. It is Black and says CVO pro street breakout on the title. it was the sickest looking bike I ever saw and bought it on the spot last year from National Power Sports of New Hampshire who has the largest selection in the Northeast in Motorcycles. MSRP on my bike was 26 and change and 3 years old with 2, 850 miles $17k is two thirds of original price, like a getting a left over left over demo for one third off the price of new. I know where I'm going to buy my next bike from. It takes two hours just to count the bikes in their showroom! My Breakout has stage 2 - 585 cams, Bassani exhaust and screaming eagle spark plug wires, dyno'd 100HP/118TQ. All the beast I need. It sounds terrifying!

    I rode a new 2016 Fat Boy when trying to figure out what HD really suited me. I didn’t like the ride at all. The suspension and hence the ride was not what I was looking for - it felt terrible to me. Consequently I purchased a Fat Bob and love it.
    Because the Softail Fat Boy wasn’t even close to me liking it I didn’t even bother trying a Breakout , considering all the reviews I had seen and read about its handling etc . Now I am very keen to ride the 2018 with that new frame / suspension. I expect it will be closer towards my Fat Bob and who knows maybe an upgrade will happen.
    Congrats on a great vid.

    Test rode this baby today omg the torque she will make you hold on. Honestly it handled better that I thought it would. Till I laid into it in a sweeping left turn she automatically wanted to stand up and was really having to man handle it and let off some

    Nothing wrong with me with the new monoshock frame and m8, but the 2017 bikes looks better than 2018 models, just because of aesthetics decisions, like the awful 3.5 tank

      Thinking of those shiny jugs in the middle of my black engine and replacing the black aggressor wheels on my CVO breakout with chrome bladed ones, just love those wheels so much and with everything else black they will pop like mad fire.

    I own one in twisted cherry and I will never part with it! I have other Harley’s in the garage but this is my jewel, I’ve done a stage 3 set up and all I’m doing next is a set of mid rise bars. Smooth in every gear and tons of torque

    I just test drove the new Breakout today and I have to say I was positively surprised, because I haven't really payed much attention to it, being more of a street bob fan. I rode all the new model bikes and the Breakout was actually the best ergonomic wise, at least for me. The seat was good and the riding position was nice and firm and you could really punish that engine on acceleration, unlike with the street bob where the seat is so unconvenient that you had to hang on for your life or you'd slide off the bike. Brake and gear pedals were also angled very nicely, unlike with the new fat bob. I do have to say though, that the monoshock was terrible. I'm not a Harley owner, so I don't know how horrible the suspension has been before, but the difference was ridiculous when I hopped back on my 2001 Yamaha V-Star.

    • @saddle8bag
      @saddle8bag 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really liked the one I demo'd too. Suspension was excellent, ergos excellent, brakes very good. It steers like a truck and grinds the pegs too easily, but it's not meant to carve canyons.
      The one thing that bugs me is that open backed headlight with the wires hanging out. Who at Harley let that slide?

    I rode the 2017 Breakout, it made a nice change from my normal rides for a day but that clutch, jeeeez it killed. Harley needs a quick shifter and really it needs to be getting much more power out of these huge engines.

    • @fastjax
      @fastjax  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Toby the EPA cracked down on them hard last year so they had to do something. So unfortunately just like everything else these days it's got to be tuned to get around the EPA

    Harley owners are notorious for not liking change, the reality is Harley were loseing money something had to change.
    the new bikes look good go better handle better, than the old models.
    same when the v rod came out in 2002 not a real Harley ????
    give them a chance I've not heard anything bad from people who have actually rode them.

    • @fastjax
      @fastjax  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the breakout is a fairly low motorcycle, and you could always get a reduced reach seat if the bars seemed to be too far away, I'm a little taller so I'd only be taking a educated guess on fitment but I've seen a few guys around that height on the breakout.

    • @fastjax
      @fastjax  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Y M
      With a windshield I think you could ride longer distances comfortably, the breakout is not a cornering bike by any means so if you plan on hitting twisties id look at another but if mainly just cruise I think you'd be fine, the thing I love about Harley's is you can turn them into anything you can imagine :)

    The 2017 is a better looking bike in my opinion. The digital dash kinda takes away from the look. The seat on the 2017 is better and the front headlight on the 2018 is terrible looking. The only thing better about the 2018 is the 114 and that’s it.

      if you knew anything bout Harley's history then you would know they were one of the first bikes to have 4 valves per cylinder so Honda and all Japan crap only copied Harley's on all the new high tech shit you guys complain about Harley's NOT having lol. people don't buy Harley's cuz they want new tech why because new tech is just made to breakdown haha. Harley's been had liquid cooling bikes they jus don't sell them publicly. Harley's been had 4 valves per cylinder bikes they been had v4 Harley's so anyone talking shit bout Harley's are old outdated tech jus wishes Honda was superior in tech but they only copy Harley on everything they do. Harley's superior in everything to Honda. jus reality look at history.

      also Harley's we're the first bikes to make all there bikes fuel injection for public sells. it was in the mid 90's when Harley had all there bikes FI. Honda's didn't until 2000's hahaha so much for Honda being so ahead of Harley's right? hahaha get the fuck outta here

      Fast-Action Jax Do you think the stretched out position would be too much for a 5'7 rider?

    • @fastjax

      its actually not as stretched out as it used to be. So I think you would be fine

    • @saddle8bag
      @saddle8bag 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It leans further than most of its customers will push it. If you're not a croozer, it's going to disappoint unless you can live with slowing down and smelling the roses.

      If your looking at buying a Breakout your not looking for a motorcycle to go kill corners with and if anyone has experience riding motorcycles at all it's pretty common knowledge that the wider the rear tire the worse the lean angle gets so I completely disagree, but all that being said I did mention it.

      It's on the throttle side, so unless you have a throttle lock, yes. But why would you need to do it while riding anyway? Set it and forget it unless you're going to carry a passenger. If so, crank it up a few notches before taking off.

    2018 breakout over the 2017 and prior breakouts unfortunately have gone backwards in the looks Department. The gas tank has to be one of the biggest fuck-ups they've done so far with the new Breakout. All the Talking Points about how much weight lost is complete nonsense in my opinion. Well that's great in that they lost the weight they unfortunately lost it in the wrong way . No different than someone who's an anorexic who loses weight by not eating. Vs somebody who goes to the gym and works out and eats healthy and takes vitamins. Between those two types of people you can tell who looks good and who doesn't.
    The classic Harley-Davidson look is literally changing before our eyes into something that is not the classic Harley Davidson look. I own a 2014 Harley Breakout that I installed a 120R motor on when I first bought it back in June of 2014. I absolutely love my breakout and the power it delivers with the 120R motor. The beauty of the larger gas tank and the Aesthetics of the older version in my opinion is way nicer. Although I did upgrade my rims at the time of purchase to the Harley chrome turbine Wheels. I also swapped out the analog gauge for the Harley upgraded digital tach and analog RPM gauge that displays Fuel and speed and time of day which I really like. Also tells you what gear you are in.
    Harley is literally bleeding cash which is why they are most likely going the route of simpler builds with more models on the same platform to save a lot of money. This is unfortunate because this is going to actually make them more of a generic Bike company with a traditional name that is the Harley-Davidson name. Not really a fan of the direction they are going
