    I have a 2018 Breakout 114, I love the small tank. It really shows off the Milwaukee 8.

      Yup! I think it suits the style of the bike

    • @HOONRZ

      I think it looks like a sportster in person it’s even worse to look at why do you want to show off the engine I’d much rather a bigger tank it’s lost it’s staunch look plus the m8 has a jappa sound lost its sound aswell

      The 3.5 gal tank has a range of 164.5 miles which is plenty for a bar hopper. That’s about the same range as my V-Rod Muscle with a 5-gal tank. The CVO 110 twin cam comes with the cam chain tensioner defect so the engine can blow at any time. The CVO has a price premium of $5,000.00 for the paint and a few extra HP. I’ll stick with the M8 114.🇺🇸 PS There aren’t any canyons in the mid-west so the 240mm fat tire is perfect and looks great.

    I love my 2017 CVO Breakout, right at this moment it's at the dealer getting a new exhaust and Fp3 tuner installed. I went with Bassani Radial sweeper. Can't wait to go pick it up!

    I have a 2018 breakout and what makes it a better turner is you have to counter steer . It turns on a dime then . Counter stealing will make the bike lean on command so you don’t fight it through the turns . After a year of riding it it’s second hand nature . No more the bike fighting you to stay into the turn and it can help with taking them wide

    • @barackblows1942
      @barackblows1942 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a 2019 BO and it turns easily when using counter steering just like my previous 2012 V-Rod Muscle. PUSH RIGHT🤛TURN RIGHT, PUSH LEFT🤜TURN LEFT.

      I have a 14 with 16'' apes. It's got a few goodies and it's faster then your typical breakout. I grew up on dirt bikes and Gixxer 1000's. I like that this bike likes to be ridden. It works best when your abusing it and riding it hard. If you know how to send it through corners at high speed I assure you it can and will do it. You definitely have to learn how to abuse this bike, that's when you really understand what the bikes all about. That's when you fall for it. Every bike out there is enjoyable at most when you start to really figure it out. Be safe out there. Enjoy this life.

    I have a pearl white 17 Pro Street. I put VH big radius and a FP3 made a huge difference. I looked at an 18 Breakout the big turnoff was the 3.5 gal tank. I also love having the 110 twin cam . The weight difference is 30lbs I think not even an issue for me. The CVO is so refined. I'll stick with it. If I want more I'll throw cams in.
    Great video Matt. Keep them coming.

    Great video Matt. I enjoyed hearing all three of you discuss these bikes. It was interesting because each of you had slightly different opinions. Showed that 2 or 3 people can ride the same bike and each experience will be slightly different. I'd love to see more videos like this where you guys take out different model years of the same bike and give your impressions.

    anyone considering a '14-'17 breakout, even though it got poor reviews compared to the '17 cvo and '18 M8 bikes. It's a great bike. You will not be disappointed. most ppl modify their bikes anyway, shotgun shocks, Stage 1 air breather and pipes. I took my '14 BO on a 2-day 1,000 mile ride the day after I got it and loved the experience.

    Matt let's face it David is just an Old School OG Beast. I agree with what he is saying 100%. I ride my 13 FLSTC and then get on my Ultra and 1200 Sporty and you really feel the difference. The new M8 is great for the large touring bikes when doing long hauls. Breakouts are bar hoppers even though a friend of mine road his to Sturgis. I still give him props for that. I love the new 114 Heritage and the new frame and may pick one up at some point.

    Breakouts are cool. Out of the 3, I'd go with the '17 CVO, even though the '18 M8 is the better engine on the better frame. I prefer the CVO 19in front wheel and inverted suspension. Looks-wise, the CVO is just killer. Would love to see a 2020 Breakout CVO or any 2020 Softail CVO for that matter.

  • @bloodstockvip2176

    I've got a 17 breakout and started tricking it out, love it! So I'd suggest not just disregarding it now the new range is here. Remember, people loved them before the 18 range and so they can't be garbage suddenly! The 17 BO it's an awesome bike once tuned and modded accordingly. Best Harley (and bike actually) I've had yet... V&H short shots and stage one, sounds evil too!

    Yeah I definitely love your videos. They're so much more interesting compared to what other people are doing, if you really like Harleys and follow what the company's doing. You just have way better access and perspective, if it's your family business. And it's clear you put effort into actually making these videos; it takes time.

  • @Themachinegun

    I feel like it's more driver than it is the bike. I had a great time in the hills with my breakout. Not saying you can't ride, but once you get use to the 240 it's all good. I also own a YZF600R. The smaller tank would be a problem on longer trips, but I've drove all day having fun and got gas at the end of the day. I have a 2018 and I changed the bars. The bike is super smooth at all speeds.

    I loved the honesty of this review. I'm a relatively new rider and initially thought I wanted a 2018 Fat Boy. (The look and the back tire are incredible!) But, I've seen your review of the FB, and now this Shootout. I think, as a new Rider, I need more lean angle. Of course, I really should ride one first. Thanks for the great review!

    I love that CVO! The one guy said it rides and ergonomics are much nicer than the 14, he mentioned the inverted forks but very little was said about the feel of the 19" wheel on it compared to the 21" what are your thoughts on the 19"? At first I liked the looks of 21" better but the 19" seems to have better lines with the bike too. I'd live to see a pro street CVO in the newer range breakouts in the future.

      I had the 2014 breakout 103 FXSB and it was a good first Harley for me. I had it all customized then totaled it in a wreck along with myself. Thankfully I had all my gear on and only ended up with a steel plate and 10 screws in my right Tibia. I then after 5 months of recovery bought the 2017 Breakout CVO Pro-Street FXSE. 110 screaming eagle. The color is gorgeous. looks like a red/black fade but Harley calls it SCORCHED APPLE LOL. this bike is wicked fast and has Torque from Hell. I get compliments anytime I ride it.I do baby it and its Garage kept. The inverted forks and 19" front wheel do make a big difference. I love the way this bike rides on both 2 lane back roads and the interstate. mine did come with a small windshield but I didn't like the look and removed it and put the stock headlight fairing on. I don't do long rides so a touring bike would not be a good buy for me. But I have Paris Mountain right up the road from my house. 20-mile round trip with lots of twists and turns. Great 2 lane back road to take it home and a great view. I love the Raked look of the Breakouts. And that 240mm back tire just has attitude suited for this bike.

    A Breakout shoot out, Awesome! Once again a great honest review and really like the concept of the same model comparison. You are right about the 2014, I had a 2013 and there is no comparison to the CVO Pro Street 0r the new 18. The only objection I have is after a few hard miles you will be carving corners as fast as most other bikes on the CVO! Wish I could bring my 2016 CVO Pro Street 117 there so you could take it out for a canyon ride it may change your mind! LOL Keep up the good work, keep rubber side down and maybe Harley will make a New Pro Street for 2019! I WISH!!

    I have a 2014 Breakout in Vivid Black I purchased Brand New in 2014 and had the dealer swap the "blahhh 103" out for the Harley 120R crate motor!!! I love my bike.. So nice, soooo fast with the 120R...... the new 2018's are sad looking compared to the previous Softail Model breakouts.... I think Harley is going in the wrong direction... they destroyed the look of the tank by the way!!!

      Fat Bob is the best one for performance riding. Upside down fork, most lean angle, twin disks up front, most suspension travel in the rear.

    • @oregonoutback7779
      @oregonoutback7779 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Neptune …. Love my '12 Fat Bob, but can't get with the '18 model. Don't like the scuba mask headlight nor the scrambler looking pipes. The new Sport Glide has reverse forks, twin discs up front and pretty decent lean angles. Not sure how the rear suspension travel compares. Rode the Sport Glide at a dealer, down in the valley, but didn't get to take it up where I live in the twisties. It was a very sweet ride. So much gentler on my aging, broken body than the Dyna. Thanks for your input.

    I’ve got a 2013 CVO Breakout. It’s absolutely beautiful but it’s best on smooth asphalt at 45-65 mph and if I wanna get outta town, I trailer it or ride my BMW R1200RT!

  • @toeslider92
    @toeslider92 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m a little late commenting on this video, but I wanted to add something nobody has really brought up either in the video or the comments, and that is purchase price. If you’re looking at these three bikes today, keep in mind that, on average, you’re looking at paying $5K more for the CVO and probably closer to $6K for the 2018 over the average price of a low-mile 2014. That’s a lot of extra “mod money” towards a 2014 to make it your own, and I feel that adds to the value of the older bikes. All the negative stuff mentioned about the 14 can be sorted with some cash, and you’d probably still have quite a bit left over.

    I owned a 2015 Breakout. I would not compare it to the 2018 at all. They ruined the 2018 when they shortened the rake, and put on a smaller gas tank. It is too bad they did not put the same tank that they put on the Sport Glide. From a purist stand point for that model, I will agree with Andrew and David on this one!
    I was going to trade my 2015 for a 2018 Breakout but preferred the 2018 FatBob 114 as a package/bike instead. Same small tank but a WAY more versatile bike. Just have to put up with some dis-approval from other Harley riders....LOL

    I went from being subscribed to unsubscribed . Awesome video, I love the breakouts. We all have our own taste in these bikes, I've only rode the 2016 but as far as looks go , the cvo takes it but with the gasser rims off the 2014 . Now for the 2018 , the little tank doesn't do it for me in looks or that long ride , I can do some riding and I've rode at night at a long distance . I don't like thinking of gas stations too much so it has to be that 2014 in black . All 3 are awesome builds. I'm subscribed

    I love my 2018 114 Breakout....added Big Radius pipes and the torque cam. This bike now sounds mean and reacts even meaner. I'm tired of the talk about handling. I traded my 14 Ultra and would take that bike on some twisty roads...the lean angle is the biggest problem. I understand every time that fat rear tire wants to stand up and you may be fighting the bike, but I love the way it handles.

    Harley needs to bring back the Harley sound. Milwaukee Eights dont sound that good, even with an aftermarket exhaust. Dislike the small tank on the Breakout. Otherwise everything else seems great about the Milwaukee Eight bikes. Oh, id take the CVO look with a HO 103.👍😎👍

    I have been waiting for something like this for some time now regarding the Breakouts! These comparison videos are excellent, informative and fun! Whatever said about the handling, the -18 is a more efficient bike but that CVO sure is a beauty. Same could be said about the beard you are sporting now a days! BTW is that a genuine 2018 CVO beard!? ;)
    Keep em coming sir!!!!

    Nice vlog good subject too i agree with you i like the 18 the best the CVO is nice too but the 18 just offers that little bit more i get people liking the feel of the vibrations on the older models but hey more smoove ride is better for your body and bike long term i get people become a fan of something too its hard to except change at first but i think over time people will get use to it and then they will become a fan of it too

    Hey Matt great vid as always, quick question for you. What aftermarket cams would you recommend for the new 2018 BO? Do you have an opinion on that?

    • @MattLaidlaw
      @MattLaidlaw  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't really know of any good aftermarket ones. Right now since they are so new I recommend the Screamin' Eagle Stuff. If you're looking to just do a cam and tune do a stage 2 torque or power cam depending on what type of riding you do

  • @saddle8bag

    The '14 is too flamboyant. The CVO is well done with unique finishes and kinda cool mixing the sport bike/cruiser thing, but that works better on models that weren't made to have the rake and chopper wheel. I'm also not a big fan of bikes that run hot. '18 is beautiful, rides nice, makes good power. It wins for me hands down. And who isn't going to want to stop to stretch out every 100 miles or so. Smaller tank issue is way overblown. None of them are going to win any ironbutt contests.
    I'm not a fan of the headlight on the '18 or that bundle of wires from the speedo to the head. Love to see them put the headlight off the Sport Glide in a small cowl like the CVO to hide the exposed wiring.
    Don't be fooled by the configuration of the forks. There are plenty of lousy inverted forks out there. It's the internals that make them. Pretty sure the CVO uses a decent cartridge. The '18 uses Showa's new tech that emulates a cartridge. The '14 uses a cheap damper rod. The two newer techs have more consistent damping over a bigger range of bump magnitudes and frequencies than the old damper rods.
    The reasons sportbikes went inverted is because they have less unsprung mass. Not such a big deal turning a cruiser at public road speeds. They also bolt the head to the thicker part of the fork tubes which means less flex in hard braking and cornering. Again, not a big issue running quasi-legal speeds on public roads. And the Breakout fork tubes aren't thin like a Sportsters.
    HD needs to thin that rear down to about a 200. That would prevent it from fighting. Yami Raider uses that same front tire and a 200 rear and it has very neutral handling. It also decks the footpegs too easily, but you don't have to wrestle it to make it happen.
    As to being refined, I'll take it. If your customers want unrefined, have them send their bike to me. For a small fee, I'll loosen all the motor mounts, the belt, and pull a spark plug wire.
    Good stuff. More shootouts. That's fun!
    BTW, saw the new Sumatra brown RG yesterday. Stunning.

      yes! Thank you - I just asked another fella out at Jasper HD Company up in North Plains OR when I was visiting the other afternoon - so, the hydraulics are on top huh? so there's hardly any noticable dipping, correct? The dampening is enhanced, thereby it's a tiche more responsive?

    The CVO front end design is what every Harley should have. They carry too much weight not to have dual discs up front and inverted forks for handling. The tank is debatable, I always like more range. Combine the 18 engine with the CVO front end, tank and finish.
