After watching this I went and got the demo. Seriously, I think this is possibly the most gamechanging non-synth plug that has been released in years, if not ever. It is actually unbelievable what this thing does to anything harsh or brittle sounding. It has such a wide sweetspot as well, easiest purchase ever tbh - if you write electronic music you seriously NEED this plugin.

    I guess it's oek.

that check the latency at the bottom of the screen trick is awesome! so helpful to figure out whats hogging all the CPU in a mix

Great review, Bill. I have had this plugin for a few months now and I really like how it focuses on unwanted resonances.

stereolink = that if a thing only happens on 1 channel, it'll apply everything to the other channel to (if turned on)
So if it's off, it'll just process each speaker individually.

Looks like a Valhalla interface. Nice. Also, nice job by GARDNSOUND on this vid...no crushed blacks!

This is my kind of plugin. I've been using Neutron's dynamic EQ which is also great.

This is a great overview. I've been on the fence.. Really wanting this plugin but not spend the money. I'm sold. I love how you went through all the features and examples. Notching frequencies in snare drums and harsh percussion is the death of me. I can't wait to buy.

I think stereo link means that if it's at 100% then left and right channels affect each other as well themselves. Same kind of thing as on Pro C2.

this is super nice. the price point makes sense for the insane work it can do. there are quite a few things that i wanna get in the next year that will have to wait until september/october at this point, i hope we can get around these things in my studies without all the swanky swanky :P

Oh an eq tha attenuates with positive values! What a genius idea!!!
and the price is pretty crazy
First they take your many and then your cpu !!! haha

Does a multiband compressor solve the same problem? This is better obviously, but if I couldn't get this plugin...

I'm loving soothe. Curious to hear what you think of spiff and if you'd use it as much. spiff is another pricey one from oek but soothe ends up on most channels or group busses for me.

Hey Mr. Bill, just below your transport controls in Ableton you have what looks like a song overview panel...how do you set that up?

daamn. I hate trying to wrestle with EQ to get rid of ugly shit in a sound while trying to maintain its character. this plugin seems like magic. i think you’re gonna sell them a lot of copies haha

The spectral compression war is on. Lol. Actually, DSM V2 was kind of the first plugin that I can across that essentially worked similar to a spectral compressor/limiter but it actually used a lot of narrow bands instead. Soothe is a lot like MSpectralDynamics or the other way around. To be honest...MSpecDyn has more options for controlling dynamics as well as presets but Soothe is a lot more intuitive. Melda's MSpecDyn will let you spectrally manipulate the entire 20Hz-20kHz spectrum. I use it for ducking frequencies to make space for the kick and snare and damn does it do a miracle of a job. There is no other plugin that comes close except for Izotope RX Spectral Casting...similar to Magix Spectral Layers Pro.
To end the argument even before it starts is to just get both, or all three. Ozone 8 has their own Spectral Shaper now. That works in the same way. Still, Soothe is kind of in another league of its own. I've used all kinds of DeEssers and the best results I've ever gotten were with Spectral Compressors. Hands down...the sound the most transparent to me. I have ditched Waves DeEsser and FabFilter's DS. Melda and I guess Soothe would be my first choices. I'll be honest, Melda's is still much more powerful but I really really like the intuitive layout of Soothe.
I saw Soothe a while back when it first came out but I didn't really know how useful it actually was. There were so many opportunities to get it on sale or used. I should have paid more attention to it. Great demonstration.

Keep em coming good sir! I do appreciate the review and might buy it... But isn't the "time-based"-cleanness of this style of manipulation also possible to get to with automated EQs/Parralel Filters?

How would you go about compensating for the delay? I tried putting this on vocals and it completely ruined the timing of the vocals. Also when I hover over the plug-in, it isn't saying what the latency is. Is there something in the preferences that I should enable? I noticed if I go into "Options" and enable "Delay Compensation" it fixes it. Is it best to only use the plugin in the mixing and mastering phase? Thank you!

@Mr. Bill - Do you have any insights into the Delay Compensation option in Ableton?
I find it helps with performance latency with heavy plugins (like Soothe) but then I feel it makes real time editing in arrangement mode harder. Do you have any tips or workarounds?

    • @synct
      @synct 6 ปีที่แล้ว

There is no reason why you should ever have this feature turned off dude. If having it on makes that much difference to your machines performance, it might seriously be time to look at upgrading your machine or just bouncing more of your plugins as you go.

this seems amazing but I wanna point out that it's a huge amount of latency. It more than doubles my latency. If you wanna play along with a midi keyboard, you should probably avoid using it at that stage. I'd only use this in mixdowns because of this

Definitely doesn't replace EQs. It's a great plugin but it's easy to overdo and should be used with care.
