    Nice work on this video! The walkthrough was clear, concise and had practical, real-world examples of plugin usage. The fact that you understand how to use the plugin really makes a difference in illustrating how we might benefit from having the plugin in our toolset.

    I discovered this plugin, yesterday, on Warren Huart's TH-cam channel, "Produce Like A Pro", and installed the trial. For two months, I tried to mix a heavily resonant solo virtual acoustic guitar. Each time I got close to a final mix, I would hit a dynamic-resonance brick wall and nothing could fix it. This plugin alone, Soothe2, solved the problem - finally, a plugin that simply works! The guitar's natural fundamental tones now balance with the masking resonances and I can finally "hear" the mix.
    I am writing this comment because, in this video, you clearly explain how to most effectively use this plugin. After two months of applying every plugin and/or mix technique imaginable, the song is finally approaching a radio-ready possibility. Thank you for this! And thank you, Oeksound.

    Love it, great to get clarification on the inverted cut & boost set up of the plugin. I think this plugin is an incredible find for me, as one of my weaknesses is finding resonance and 'problem' frequencies.

    It seems like a dynamic EQ with multi-point frequency tracking. It is a plugin to have in the arsenal of secret weapons.
    Fabfilter devs wouldn't have much trouble doing this feature on their EQ, something like "sticky spots" that follow frequencies ...

    Valuable review of an excellent plugin. Soothe2 very useful in remastering recordings from earlier decades which may sound harsh on modern accurate sound systems. I tend to use Sooth2 following a general rebalancing with Har-Bal, but find the Sooth2 step adds a lot. Also worth trying the M/S button when remastering old recordings.

    Another point of view is this: In most everything but drums and percussion, the resonance tend to move a lot with the harmonics. If you can have gulfoss or DSEQ3 work intelligently, it may be possible for them to follow the resonant peaks around a bit, which was not possible with EQs. I think all the plugins, DSEQ3, Soothe, Smooth Operator, Gulfoss and Teote all have degrees of 'moving' resonance response if I'm not mistaken. But Gulfoss and Teote are also about balancing in other ways. All of them, Gulfoss & Soothe included (expensive as they are), are very nice (and each have a strength and also an improper use that can make things a lot worse instead of better)

    Excellent walkthrough sir - detailed & informative - perfectly paced - really good & (more importantly) relevant audio examples - Good job 👍🏻 I love this plugin - a game changer to some extent and can be used for so many applications! The side chain thing is definitely worth checking out though - you can use it similarly to the Neutron ‘unmasking’ thing on kick and bass for example or on virtually any instruments in the mix that are frequency masking each other.! Subscribed & liked 👍🏻

      Use Spiff on a lot of percussive type material, pianos, and even acoustic guitar sometimes. it's a great tool to have since you have so much flexibility over transient cuts and boost.

    I just can't hear the differences, even with quality headphones. What's the best way to train your ears to be able to pick out these resonate frequencies? Also should professional samples like spitfire's orchestral libraries be surpressed, I think they go through a heavy mastering process so would it be redundant to try to take out frequencies that shouldn't be taken out in the first place?

    • @ManchesterMusic

      I don’t mean to plug iZotope too much but they make an incredibly helpful ear training tool called Pro Audio Essentials (it’s desktop only):
      pae.izotope.com/
      I don’t know Spitfires process but I’d like to hope the samples are unadulterated tonally when they reach the end user. I know for a fact that they, and other library companies, use noise reduction software on their samples.

      I have the same problem; can’t really hear the difference. I think it is because as we age we lose the ability to hear high frequencies. Check out the various free frequency hearing tests here and elsewhere on the internet. You will be surprised.

    Just use an EQ. Instruments and voices are naturally resonant at certain frequencies. It's called, er, 'character.'

    Burning questions: Do I use this with an EQ or instead of an EQ? If I Pro Q3 the heck out of a vocal and it's just a hair off, does Soothe punch it over the goal line?

    • @ManchesterMusic
      @ManchesterMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey dude, let’s put the fire out! I still use “static” EQs on individual channel stuff (mostly iZotopes Neutron 3) and typically save Soothe2 for bussed/groups as a catch all. However Soothe might soon replace static stuff, time will tell.

      @@ManchesterMusic Interesting. I'd love Brian Eno in a box to make all my EQ moves come out right somehow. I'm not sure this is it though.

    It's like that clever 700$ tempo syncing thing from project sam (symphobia 4?), or the speakerphone 2 imo. Great tools, but I can't justify tools that specific when its just a hobby thing. GAS is plenty as it is! :P

    I don't get it. Isn't this just a glorified dynamic EQ? What's the difference? Also, for a plugin that's designed to make things simpler for us, it seems to have a lot of parameters. For example, the higher you drag the EQ point on the graph, the more that frequency is supressed but isn't that exactly the same thing that the depth knob does? Thanks

    • @backup7305
      @backup7305 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's entirely different from the typical dynamic EQs. It can supress dozens and hundreds of extreamely narrow resonance points as the sound plays, and I can't find any similar, even close alternatives in the market.
      Do you know anything like this? I would love to know btw. Because I need this plugin but it's a bit expensive for me.

      That and maybe some multiband compression happening? Personally I like how the Sculptor works in Izotope Neutron. I do want to try Soothe since it has a lot of good feedback and definitely looks interesting but the price would have to be very low for me to buy it.

    • @Jimmynana
      @Jimmynana 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@backup7305 I think the Sculptor module in Izotope Neutron Advanced does something like this, plus Neutron also has a dynamic EQ and much more. Regular price is not cheap, but it is discounted often. You can get they whole mix suite for close to what Soothe 2 costs if you wait for the deals.

    I have Gullfoss. Is this very different?

    • @ManchesterMusic
      @ManchesterMusic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A touch different. Gullfoss can excite/enhance frequencies in addition to attenuating them. Soothe only suppresses. Also, I'd argue that Soothe gives you more control over which areas of the spectrum to attenuate more aggressively. Gullfoss is kind of a 'jesus take the wheel' approach..I'm not sure what it's doing or how it's doing it, I just have to use my ears and trust the processing.

    • @Table-Top
      @Table-Top 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ManchesterMusic thanks Geoff...
      although with Gullfoss you can bring in the start-end markers to just have it work on a part of the spectrum you specify.

    • @ManchesterMusic
      @ManchesterMusic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Table-Top Ah yes, completely forgot about those bands. In that case, I'd say Soothe is more flexible because using the multiple nodes you can concentrate the suppression in more than one region across the spectra, where as with Gullfoss you're limited to one small, or large area. That being said, you're probably only dealing with one region of harshness at a time though, unless you've got a singer who's super sibilant and resonant and....blah blah blah..
