Sir, greetings from Pakistan. This is such an emotional song and yourself were able to not only capture the emotions of the song but at the same time expressed it in your beautiful words and reactions. Heer (the name of the lady) and Ranjha (the name of the man whom she loved) is a great folk tale of this part of the world just like Romeo and Juliet. Khereyan refers to Heer's in-laws. Heer was married off to Khera after her parents found out about her affair with Ranjha. Song is about Heer telling her mother she doesn't want to get married. But her parents force her to get married. With the pain of separation Ranjha was heart broken. He used to play flute very well whereas Heer just says Ranjha Ranjha all the time. Soon, her parents agree to marry her to Ranjha. But her uncle betrays them and poisons Heer. Ranjha too eats the same poison and ends his life. The song portrays the pain Heer has as she doesn't want to leave Ranjha. The mythical character of Heer is one of the subcontinent’s greatest muses, and has inspired some of the region’s most iconic and celebrated songs, poems and stories. Yet even across this vast corpus of art, stretching across centuries, Khairiyan de Naal stands as amongst the finest examples of its kind. Sung with a gusto that retains the sense of tragedy inherent to the song, the lyrics are from the perspective of Heer. She sings the virtues of her true love, Ranjha, and in the style of all Sufi poetry, both the declarations of her love and the descriptions of the Beloved can also be considered as allegories for divine love itself.
Heer and Ranjha are buried in Heer's hometown, Jhang, a city in the "Punjab" province of Pakistan. Lovers and others often pay visits to their mausoleum. Sir, the real emotional part is when she is lowered in the grave and laid to rest, the angels come and she still has Ranjha on her mind. The way she asks about the whereabouts of Ranjha from the angels while lying in the grave is so emotional and bring tears to the eyes. Sir, feeling the pulse of the song by yourself was remarkable and so aptly described without even knowing about the complete background of the song is simply amazing and unmatched. Sir, definitely one of the best songs of Coke studio season 7. I must once again appreciate the top notch quality of the reactions. They are too good. I am always amazed by how do u get these things, I woud hav not caught that maybe if I didnt know their story but u linked it to folktale which is abdolutly right, it truly was a great song full of pain especilly can resonate with aot of ppl in this region. Heer Ranjha is one of v popular tragic romances of the Punjab, Pakistan and is as old as 17th century with many versions but most famous one by Waris Shah in 1700s, in which Heer a rich girl and Ranjha avg guy who is spoiled by his dad and is expelled from family and town by his brothers forced by their wives afer death of his father. He is hired by Heer father and Heer and Ranjha fell in love with she loves to isten him play his flute. Her evil uncle thou got to know abt them and tells her parent and arranges her mariage to someone and Ranjha leaves to become ascetic and eventully many years later gets united with heer and she didnt marry but now parents agree to unite them but Heer evil uncle poisons her i think marriage day and ranjha finding her dead also drinks poison and dies. Lol tragic but resonated at that time with stories of most ppl im sure and maybe even today, not sure if its based on true characters.
