This is very well done this is will definitely help with my heel toe you are amazingly talented oh and might I add you are very very clear when explaining
I have big feet and I want to play heel toe but I dont wamt to spend 450 on double pedal and my feet not be able to perform it. I was able to play it on a longboard single so what does anyone think
I like the 'heads up' display of the notes moving as you play the exercise. What software for notation do you use? And yes, would love to see a tutorial on how you make tutorials! Great channel. Subscribed...
Dude this is a game changer! I have struggled sooooooo hard with 32nd notes on the bass and every other tutorial teaches the swivel technique which I cant do as I severely broke my ankle back in the day! A million thank you's for this!
Eugene Ryabchenko and Marthyn Jovanovic are MUCH better teachers. His explanation of heel toe is a good way to actually hurt yourself and have a short life as a drummer.

Thanks Wyatt! Definitely one of the best heel-toe videos around and by far the most useful to me personally! Great breakdown of not only how the technique functions mechanically (which is often poorly explained and only illustrated) but how to use it.
You just accelerated my playing by lightyears. I've been doing this so wrong for a long time. 1 hour of practice after seeing this and I am already sounding like a different drummer. Way way better. Thankyou so much
Been playing for like 6 years and have never been able to figure out heel toe, after watching this for the past month and practicing it FINALLY clicked. I feel like I’m committing an act of sorcery. Now I’m just trying to even it out and honestly this is fucking SO mind blowingly cool.
The part I like the best was your explanation for beginners. Everybody wants to run before they can walk. It's good that you're giving the beginners an understanding of foundation because a house without a good foundation just aint gonna stand too long and it's good that you inforce the foundational fundamentals!! 👍

I think this is by far the best explanation of heel toe technique I have seen. I was immidiately able to hit 160 pretty consistently with accuracy after watching this. My biggest problem though is that my pedals are too short and I have trick Bigfoots. I end up with my toes jammed up into the front of the pedal in order for my heel to hit past the fulcrum of the pedal. Anyone else have this problem?

Right? All the other videos are like “heel toe isn’t actually played with your heel and you don’t need long boards” I cannot understand how to play like those people do doing this

Well done. Everything works in this debut video. The instructions are clear and detailed enough to grasp the content. The thing I appreciated most was the pace. It moved quickly without a lot of distraction and chitter chatter. Those who are trying to learn this will get a lot of value from this.
Hello Wyatt. I just want to say, I wish i had this kind of media when I started drumming 24 years ago! I was self taught listening to my favorite bands figuring out How they play. I learned a form of heal toe on my own. It's more of a slide. My toes push down on the heel and slide forward to the top of the pedal board. The way you're teaching it is definitely much better. Thanks for your videos. You're doing an amazing job. Keep up the good work kid!

Hi, Wyatt. I'm here cause I've seen you playing with Jared Dines recently. I was so amazed that I had to check your TH-cam channel, and I've found out this incredible tutorials you've made. Just want to say thank you for your dedication and to say that I, personally, really like the way you direct them. Anyway, you're doing a great job and I encourage you to carry on. Greetings from Barcelona!
You are very good at explaining the things you want to teach. Watched a lot of different youtubers/organisations that are really skilled, but none of them can teach their skills as good as you do. happy that I stumbled on to this one. Keep it up!

I’ve been bouncing my feet like this for years listening to music. Never ever thought to apply it to kick drumming. Just gotta work on the speed now. Thanks a bunch 👍🏻
Holy shit, I've been practicing scuffs on the floor since I was little, never knew it was an actual thing and didn't know you could actually apply it to the kit 😂😜
I think that playing the Bleed foot pattern slowly with a RRLR LLRL sticking is a good exercise, because that way you get to know how to switch smoothly between singles and doubles and how to incorporate doubles into normal foot patterns
Your videos are great All the info I want/look for are all entailed in the way you do your videos I can’t thank you enough Great game explanation on the scuffs/heel-toe As far as shin pain, for those who get it Put your toes against a wall about 4-6 inches up and your heel on the ground about 2-3 inches from the wall and lean into it You can also keep your heel down, your toes up at a 45° angle and grab your toes Hope this helps those with shin pain Keep kicking ass
This is really good advice. In the 7 years that I have played (no longer currently) I’ve never tried the heel -toe- method. Can’t wait to get my kit back! Plz wish me luck
I have been watching videos on how to do heel toe for a while now, but yours was the best explanation I have seen. Thanks for the help! Hopefully I'll have this down soon!
Damn man, I stopped drumming like 10 years ago and never got the hang of double bass drumming. Seeing you cover DGD has me thinking of getting back into it. Keep doing what your doing man!
I’ve seen your cover vids pop up every so often but I’ve never really studied them until this video- being a jazz/fusion drummer the metal/blast beat drumming scene perplexed me and confused me- your tutorials are put together very well and you explain not only the tricks involved, but the fundamentals required to perform the tricks properly. Very good stuff- keep up the good work! Liked and subscribed 💯💯
Good video! Very useful knowledge here. I would add just one more idea to it... When practicing this away from the kit or pedal, try to keep your heel off of the ground except for the brief moment of impact on the heel strokes. Imagine your foot as a drumstick with a tip at both ends. The toes can be an impact and the heel another impact...and the fulcrum of the stick (foot) is somewhere in between. Try to keep the foot fulcrum at the same height off of the ground, which will force you to lift your heel before you impact with the toe. If your heel is still on the footboard when you impact with the toe, you will have to actually lift your heel up before you can do it all over again...which would be wasted motion. In this video, Wyatt is doing it right. You definitely can practice this anywhere...on the tour bus...in the classroom...at the dinner table...on the couch chillin'...at your computer desk...anywhere you are sitting. A longer footboard on your pedal helps, but is not necessary...and this technique applies to single pedal drumming too. It also applies to hihats, and leads to some really killer sound effects when used on the hats.
I learned myself to play drums and over the years I realized what I'm definitely need to improve. Your videos are really helping me fixing the mistakes I make and getting a better drummer. Looking forward to many more lessons from you Wyatt :D
The bonus was my favorite, I love sextuplets in a good combination at a good tempo and I also use scuffs 👍🏻 definitely was a well informed tutorial and could really help fellow drummers foot work
im not a "drummer" but know drums from having to program them. I really like your explanation of heel toe and have never heard of scuffs before today. ima practice these at my desk till the next time i'm able to play on a kit lol
Wyatt , your tutoral is outstanding.Your explanation of technique and execution is simple and to the point. I’ve been double kicking since 1980. Old school all the way, single strokes.💪However, your double stroke foot technique is working its way into my kick approach. One I’d like to add if I may,” fellow drummers, notice the geometry in Wyatt’s relationship to the kit. SQUARE. Not too high, not over extending anything. Wyatt is the quintessential modern rock machine. He’s in shape. Speaks well. And has great chops. All very desirable attributes if you want to play well and get work. Thanks again Wyatt for sharing!!!!!!! I hope I didn’t step on toes here! Just merely making comments based on 40 years of stickery. Aloha,T bone,,,,.....OUT.🤙😎
woah ! :O thanks so much for this awesome comment ! it really means the world! im so happy you enjoyed the video! and I really appreciate your kind words!!!
This is a really well made video! It was informative and the exercises are chosen also well. I play drums for 7 years and had only done scuffs on the floor, but not on an actual kit... However you have now a new subscriber:)
This is an amazing video. I never realized that I've been doing heel toe work ever since middle and high school classes as well lol. and i am currently sitting at work practicing this along with the video on my desk and floor. Thanks!
This is excellent. Very well planned, executed, and edited. Especially having the music with the marker moving along, that's tight. Question, when you're doing continuous heel-toe, do your shins get tired? That happens to me, just curious if that's common, or if I'm doing too much work lifting my toes.
Thanks so much! Very glad you enjoyed the video :) ...Also, that discomfort is absolutely normal. PUSH THROUGH IT!! hahaha its just the same as working out.. it means you are getting good practice in and come the next day you will be soar.. but your legs will be built stronger and faster in the long run.. if you don't feel some discomfort when playing.. in either your physical body OR in your mind in the form of stress... THEN YOU ARNT GETTING BETTER! :D so congrats that discomfort means you are on your way to being a much better drummer :D :D
Yeah, I basically stopped all other drum stuff I was working on about 5 months ago so I could focus solely on heel-toe. I can get up to about 160 pretty cleanly but my biggest issue is keeping my shins from tiring out. Anyway, good words of wisdom about discomfort. It's encouraging, thanks guys.
Really high quality tutorial man. Very succinct and helpful. I hope you're able to build this channel into a full time career because with this level of content you 100% deserve it.

That was an amazing tutorial, i cant wait to try these exercises tomorrow. Your Video was amazing, with structure, good videos to show what your talking about and also a nice combination of theory and showing in real.
I used swivel technique my whole life and just fell in love with heel toe...I am going to practice the fook out of this. Thank you brother. I just got a new toy.
Love your explanation and demonstrations. But I have the odd tendency to stomp. I know it's a matter of balancing my sitting weight consistently so the flick of my ankles is natural. I'm neither fat nor skinny, I'm muscular and I'm constantly adjusting seat height (for under the thigh support so my feet almost dangle), constantly adjusting seat height and distance (from the pedals) to find that sweet fulcrum spot on each pedal to do the scuff. I'm failing because I suspect a longboard double pedal might be necessary. I own the ddrum RX series DBL Bass Pedals and a bicycle style drum throne. What are your thoughts on the supportive diameter of a drum throne (does it matter?), the sitting distance from throne to pedals (how close is close and how far is too far?), and whether longboard dbl bass pedals are necessary ( I almost have to jam my toes up into the chain drive and flick my heel down to get that scuff just right, but the transition to other notes played is really odd). Help?
SHARING IS CARING!

Thanks Wyatt, Heel Toe works for me. Great patterns. I ll be in the practice room giving this a try
awesome man!! Will defenitly try that scuff techic, thanks! One more question; what is the tension of your double pedal? Thanks! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
AVE drums those springs are stock.. so their not high tension, however I have them tightened all the way!
Happy practicing brother 😎🤙🏻🔥
Wyatt Stav thanks a lot bro!🤙🏼
This is a really well made video! It was informative and the exercises are chosen also well. I play drums for 7 years and had only done scuffs on the floor, but not on an actual kit...
However you have now a new subscriber:)
Love how in depth you get into it dude. Great content man. I already know all this it’s still fun to watch your videos 🔥
Kye Gutierrez glad you enjoyed! 🤘🏻
This is the lesson I needed 5 years ago when I first started trying to learn double bass! Thank you!
Dude I picked this up almost immediately thanks to your clear explanation. I wish I found this video years ago. \m/
This is an amazing video. I never realized that I've been doing heel toe work ever since middle and high school classes as well lol. and i am currently sitting at work practicing this along with the video on my desk and floor. Thanks!
Worth the wait dude holy shit you are doing really well with this content man you are great keep up the good shit brother
And my favourite was definitely the last exercise very cool thanks drummer boi
Makes me so happy to hear! :D thank you!
@@tommywiseau8234 Give it a go? lemme know how you like playing it ?! :)
Enjoyed this lesson, thank you Wyatt. Which spring tention do you use for this technique?
Kills for me when I started too.
JG Drums I made a short video highlighting it. I can probably do 4-5 measures straight at 150-160
JG Drums solely....heal toe...haha. Pun intended??
My shins burn pretty good after some good motorin, for sure.
Thanks Wyatt! Your videos are always very useful
Your not alone with calling it "scuffs"!!! Great video.Great exercises.Keep up the great work!!!!

Your Video was amazing, with structure, good videos to show what your talking about and also a nice combination of theory and showing in real.
Thanks so so much :D really glad you enjoyed! lemme know how practicing these concepts go!!
I don't even play drums and i feel like i've learnt something. Keep up the work man, you're a gun!!
Help?
Awesome video man! You have unlocked so much for me!!!
Dude your accuracy is flawless
*WOW!* Congrats on this Lesson! It's perfect! Love the way you explain and teach... keep that up!
Thanks so much :D I am glad you enjoyed!
Bro!!! Thanks for making this lesson! Definitely helped me out with this one. Well done!
