As a family member who has witnessed a loved one go into cardiac arrest right in front you, it is a pretty terrifying and traumatic experience. My heart goes out to Damar's mother, rest of his family and teammates.

Basically this young man was randomly destroyed by the drug pushers. 24 years old and as healthy athlete as can be. At best, he will be fortunate if he lives a decent but shortened life, but he will never play in the NFL again. I’m pissed at what they’ve done to him and so many other good people.

My uncle went into cardiac arrest back in 2017 after singing in a concert. He died right there backstage. One of the most heartbreaking moments I’ve ever experienced. So this I know very well cause I’ve seen it 🥺 I pray that Hamlin recovers and the Lord will give him grace to continue his journey on earth.

Having witnessed this a few times in soccer, and more recently with Christian Eriksen in Euro 2020, I cried this morning when i read the news. Prompt recover brother. This has nothing to do in particular with the physicality of American football. It could have occurred without a contact. Many such fatalities happened in soccer.

Just imagine the traumatic events those players witnessed and heard when the paramedics did CPR and used the AED for 10 minutes. They watched a man suffer a heart attack and struggle to be revived on national tv. That specific moment will undoubtly stick with them for the rest of their days

Stephen A is so right on this. So many look up to these athletes like heroes and see them as superhuman. Which makes us think that they are untouchable when they are not. They are mortal just like us all but we take for granted that because of how superhuman their abilities are at what they are doing we don't see that they are mortal just like us. Sports journalists are supposed to cover sports from all relevant angles and the difficulty of rescheduling this game is one of those angles that will be discussed by the NFL because it has to be and is therefore perfectly appropriate for journalists and commentators to discuss. Skip ended his tweet by emphasizing the importance of Hamlin's health above everything else by the way.
We can always be certain that people will see incidents like this as a means to place themselves on moral high horses.

This one made me cry, I had heart surgery before I was 40….after having heat surgery at the Mayo Clinic to be alive to text this, treat ELDERS WITH RESPECT! I had a blood clot in my neck and SVC vein (2nd largest vein in the human body); your health is number 1! I knew for a moment how it feels to have a heart working at 13%… I have a lot more respect for the people who take their time crossing the street nowadays I tell you that! One love people 🙏🏾❤️💯
Ive been watching the nfl since 2016, I’ve seen the scariest of injuries like Alex smith, Eric Berry, Shazier, but I knew those guys would end up being ok, but last night was the first time I feared someone was going to die on the field and it made me tear up for the first time watching any sport. It hard to imagine that this has never happened before last night. I saw Shazier go down and become paralyzed on the field, so many guys tear muscles and break bones, many more stiffen up with concussions and get knocked unconscious. But this was so Fkn scary to watch live. Pittsburgh is a solid city with mostly stand up people and right now we are standing behind this young man and his family and truly hoping they can make it threw this troubling time together.
Seeing the way this was handled, I still can't believe the WWF continued with their show after Owen Hart died in the ring.

Nah this could have happened at anytime. What likely happened is something called commotio cordis. Where if you hit somebody in the chest at just the right time, they go into cardiac arrest. The window of opportunity for this is literal milliseconds. There are over 300 million people in the US and only 30 cases are reported each year. Thats how rare it is. Commotio cordis tends to happen in children too with the average victim being 14 years old. Its nothing to do with hard hits. Its everything to do with the timing
