    I will say, that point about having your index fingers and thumbs being the same distance was a great point and feel it's often not mentioned. It's a great way to keep things consistent and an easy marker for hand positioning. Plus you can feel your muscles feel off once you start rotating and changing the finger distances.

    I had played volleyball for some time but quit due to feeling a little burnt out. Then we have some volleyball in the high school i had just started, and i tried it again. Absolutely loved it.
    Out of everything I did that day, nothing beat that feeling i got when i did a backwards set and my teammate scored on it

  • @Masa6x
    @Masa6x 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Thanks for this. Could you do tips for: learning how to aim the set better? I follow all these cues but sometimes I put in far too much power, and my accuracy is unreliable. Also I can't tell where the ball is going to go when I back set, sometimes it goes into the net, sometimes way past the court.
    Also with jump serving am I supposed to just use spiking footwork once I've learned how to throw it consistently?

    • @oniichan242
      @oniichan242 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      For starters try and be square to the net. When setting either forwards or backwards, your shoulder are 90 degress to the net and the ball should travel parallel to the net. Everything else is a shit ton of practice. Theres no other secret to aiming, than what coach artie said and 10 000 repetitions of the same. Try and see how the ball feels, if you set badly. Were you under the ball and where did your hands touch the ball? Noticing that and practicing consistently will make you a great setter with time

    • @Masa6x
      @Masa6x 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ok thanks. I feel my sets getting more consistent so I think im doing it technically right, just need more practice as you said since I have only some rec hours per week and no practice gym space.
      Do you have any advice for spiking timing tho? Im 6'5 and can easily reach above the net, but I find myself often too early and under the ball even though i wait for setter contact.
      I also struggle to hit down and get on top of the ball even though I know i should be contacting the top, not the side of it@@oniichan242

      @@coachartie In our club we have been discussing the differences between the European approach to setting technique and the Americas and Asia and Australia. Really interesting. Seems to me the European way is a bit harder to learn, due to much more thumb impulse and less arms, while the "giant hamburger" seems to be more accessible, especially when entering the sport and/or moving back and forth between beach and indoor. What's your take on that?

    • @coachartie
      @coachartie  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a really interesting idea on setting. I'm going to be honest I've never even considered it being taught differently depending on location but it makes sense.
      What a cool idea.
      I guess I made this video with me breaking down my understanding of setting into simple imagery.
      Would this video be considered an Australian way of teaching? Or another way? I'm so curious 🤔

    • @taikonautjarHeadOfficial
      @taikonautjarHeadOfficial 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@coachartie Yeah, in Europe we have this thumb-flick that provides some more energy to cover more distance. It's quite hard to learn and often results in spinning balls and ref calls. After you master it (I don't), it's awesome. In our club we have a colleague player (and coach) joining us for the next months, providing sooo much more perspective and food for thought. I hope we manage to combine the best of two worlds and encourage our players to adapt what works best for them individually.

    Nice video coach! Just a query for you :
    I've been setting for quite some time now so I can set correctly 80% of the times my sets are accurate and the rest 20% are manageable ,
    I have analysed and got some feedback and came to the conclusion that my negative points are:.
    I can't see the position of the blockers while setting ( you know the thing that you know where the blockers are with your quick side eye)
    2 I can't jump set on bad passes
    3 what to do when all of my attackers are getting shut down?

    • @coachartie
      @coachartie  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great analysis of your strengths and weaknesses. In my mind when Im coaching a setter, knowing where the blockers are is a minor objective and not as important as people think. I think as long as you can get a consistent set to your spikers they need to put in the work!
      When all your attackers are getting shut down its easy to try and rely on your best spiker, but if every ball is going to them you get predictable as a setter. Stay strong and keep your options open.
      Hope this help 😊

    Is it possible to keep points "Missle Launcher Lock On" and "Consistent Contact Point" in cases that ball is not passed well (and coming nicely from above)?
    Me and my frieds are playing mostly for fun with really messy passes sometimes.
    I am not sure how hard i should stick to these rules if pass is low, out of the place and looks it hard to set. Should i still try set while sticking to consistent contact point, or it is better to make sure that i will be able to set somehow instead trying to do it in good way, and try nice sets with better passes?

    • @coachartie
      @coachartie  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My main philosophy is you get better at what you practice. If you practice great technique on bad passes, you'll get better at setting those bad passes.
      I recomend trying your best to follow the keys, but I also understand in some cases its a bit unreasonable to expect that.
      But yeah, do you best!!! 🙏🙏🙏

    but how do i set consistently like more accurately?

    • @coachartie
      @coachartie  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When you practice these keys, I guarantee you will be setting more consistently. I believe that consistency comes down to the small things. Like Burger hands and if your fingers and thumbs are the correct distance apart.
      Trust the process! 🙏

    I never liked volleyball until about two months ago, when I realized that playing in a team is one of the best things out there. I've been practising frequently since then, and I just recently decided I wanted to be setter, an ambitious goal. Your video will definitely be a big help with my practice, and I can't wait to try the tips shown in this guide tomorrow!
