thank you very much! great video and explanation. i've been playing volleyball for around five months now and have been setting for way less than that. i'm still a newbie so i can't help but make a lot of mistakes. your video's extremely helpful and i'll make sure to practice the exercises you show. again, thank you very much!
thank you for these. im in a volleyball camp right now and one of the coaches is focused on putting me in a setter position, but i often find myself inconsistent with my setting. i'll do these exercises!! i also need some help/tip, im a short female player and i just wanna know how do i set the ball much more higher
Sure, try them👍 If you want to set high sets than work on fingers, wrists, triceps, shoulders and legs. In fact it is good idea for one of my upcoming video😉
I've coached loads of beginners, with these exact exercises! And thankful to have at last found a video of those techniques, to share with my students! Thank you!
This video has been up for a while, but i just found it! I am subbing as a setter even though i am usually playing outside and my setting has been very rough lately, loads of double touches mainly, but this might help! Thank you!!
I will try these next volleyball practice because I’ve been a volleyball player since I was in elementary and now in junior high school and my sets are so inconsistent and setting is my weakness
While overhead passing force from my hand doesn't applies evenly on the ball...force of one hand acts on the ball and it leads to misdirection..how to solve this problem...
You need to re-set your technique with medical heavy balls, do a lot of reps against the wall and practice getting under the ball with the right technique in mind.
What's the right way to flex your fingers instead of clawing like 2:07? Is it supposed to be firm? Or loose? I always jam my thumb when I set, so I think I am doing something wrong
@VolleyCountrycom thanks for the quick answer and really good video tutorial! Would having firm fingers the initial contact be good too? I also have trouble setting fast down serves or spikes (this is also when I usually jam my finger), do you have any tips?
Hi, this is great! but I have a couple of questions. First, Are the center of your palms supposed to actually make contact with the ball? because when I do the exercises, mostly my fingers and the top edges of my palm make contact but not the center. Second, Am I supposed to absorb the ball on the way down before I push up? If so, How far do i want to come down with it?
What drills can you do for a bit more advanced setting if you don't have a court? For example are there any drills that I or other could do at home that consists more of squaring up?
1:22 this happened to me the other day. The pass was a little too low and far so I had to set running through the ball and my hands were just opened a bit wider than usual so the ball hit my face while spinning due to sole finger it hit. I dropped on my knees and we laughed it off all together xD
Can someone help me, I think I have good passing technique but I set to the left hand instead of the right hand (all of my teammates are righ handed) and it makes it difficult for my teammates to hit, Any Tips?
Dear VolleyCuntry, first of all thank you for this amazing video and your time! I am in a big problem and I am desperate, I hope you can help me. My setting is inconsistent, especially when we have warm up part, where setter set and hitters hit on the net before the match. I get nervous, and my fingers push the ball nervously, no hitter can hit that. I know I can set, but my mental state makes my setting bad. I think if I learn good technique that I can always rely on, even in such nervous state, it will get better. Any tips? Normally I can set good, my fingers are strong, but I don't have fix technique that I can always use and make my balls precise. Last night we had match and I am a second setter, so I was hitting with the hitters, the first setter was setting, I got nervous and I passed ball to him over the net, so he couldn't even set for me. Such mistakes I didn't make even when I began with volleyball. Can you save me, please, volleyball is my antidepressive and now I can't play volleyball fully because of my brain and lack of technique (eventually)? Thank you in any case and sorry if bothering. Another question is-should players set with fingers or with palm of the hand? Thanks!!! You don't know how much this means to me, you can change my life with your answer, I hope you realize how important your role is in my life right now.
It is normal that you get nervous😀 We are all sometimes nervous. You should create more situations when you get nervous by setting up some goals or small punishment for you (few push ups) if you fail, so you adapt to these difficult situations. And the most important is to set, set and set quality balls. Then also your confidence will be much better😉
I know, some players have smaller fingers and palms, but if you have good technique there should no limitations for you👍 So try to improve your technique😉
I've always been inconsistent with setting, sometimes I'm good and sometimes I'm not, but this video really helped my sets be a lot more accurate
Thanks for nice words👍

It is better to have loosen fingers before touching the ball😉 Thumbs should point almost to forehead👍
