    Your passion for the base Carrera really comes across. Interesting that a lot of respected motoring journalists likewise consider the base Carrera as the 'pick.' I also agree that the interior ergonomics, leather finishing, and stylish colour add to that special experience. Nice video, thank you.

    Got my first 911 almost 2 years ago- 2006 (997.1) Carrera 2S manual transmission. It only had 14,000 miles and the price was high. Still, it's worth it. It has the best shape, size and sound. Even the tail lights look great. Thanks for the review.

    As a 997.1 owner it’s great to see someone fighting the corner for the m96/m97 engined cars. I find the biggest difference between the two is the type of plastic used in the cabin and the suspension used.
    Gen2 has a different type of plastic used in the cabin which does not become as brittle over time. The gen one interiors can creak and rattle. The suspension only has two gyros to detect pasm too, the gen 2 has a third gyro as well as different spring rates.
    The character of my x51 3.8 is intoxicating

    • @InvictusMotors

      Thanks T I for watching and I am glad you are on the M96/97 side to the fence. You are right about the type of plastic used in the interior between the two generations.
      Interesting to hear about the two gyros vs three on the 997.2 and spring rating.

    Carrera 4, 4S, Turbo, and GT variants have the wide body (except the standard GT3, GT3 RS is also wide body). Carrera, Carrera S are narrow body. @@InvictusMotors I moved from a 996 to a 997. The thing I didn't like is that the 997 is not so pure, in terms of driving experience as the 996. You feel the car is faster, of course, but more filtered than the 996.
      Nevertheless, you can drive it as your daily (which I don't do) car.

    To fix that slow crank, follow you pos batt cable to the junction to the left of the battery, pull out the red pin, wiggle off. Sand paper on the stud, little wire brush on the part that slips on the stud. Your welcome. Why they did this? Who knows.

  • @pjay3028
    @pjay3028 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I agree that the 997.1 has an awful lot going for it. It looks better than the 997.2 (due to the lights), and the engine sounds much better too.
    The base Carrera seems somewhat less prone to bore scoring than the 3.8S too, so it is certainly a good buy if you find a good one.
    Personally I think PASM is a very nice option to have (and the big brakes etc), so a Hartech rebuilt C2S is still my favourite, but I can see your point.
    (One point to mention, only the 4 wheel drive cars get the wide body.)

    • @InvictusMotors
      @InvictusMotors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. Definitely agree that the 3.6 is less prone to scoring. PASM can be a nice option to have but unfortunately it's one more thing to go wrong. Definitely agree with the Hartech rebuild being desirable :)
