    One thing to keep in mind here is the sub-pixel layout. The Sony uses an RGB sub-pixel layout which is the same that is used on computer monitors. This means that any small text or fine lines that are displayed on the screen from a connected computer (word processing, spreadsheets, desktop publishing, etc.) are going to be crisp and clear. The Samsung uses a BGR sub-pixel layout which means that any small text or fine lines that are displayed on the screen are likely to appear slightly blurry and may seem out of focus to the eye. Over time, this can lead to eye strain and eye fatigue. If you know you are going to be hooking up a computer to the TV at some point to use it as a monitor, the X80K is a far better choice. Even the less expensive, step-down version of the TV, the Sony X75K (only currently available in 55" and 65" sizes) also uses an RGB sub-pixel layout as well.

    • @gregn2909
      @gregn2909 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Mike, great info. It looks like the x85k switched back to BGR, even though it's ostensibly an upgrade to the x80k? But fits the bill with brightness? What do you recommend in the 43-50 inch category for ~$600 for a bright room PC monitor, the LG A2s, C2s are a touch dim? Wait for the new Hisense?

    • @michaelbeckerman7532
      @michaelbeckerman7532 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@gregn2909 well, every TV is going to look different so you'll have to evaluate each one on its own merits, of course, but for an affordable 43" to 55" either the Sony X75K or X80 fit the bill just about perfectly. Now, Sony does have a new X77L coming out here soon for 2023 that will go all the way up to 85". I don't know if that has an RGB sub-pixel layout yet or not, we will have to wait and see. Do keep in mind here that some manufacturers will use different types of panels at different sizes of screens within the same model. You just have to be careful there and do your homework on that before making a purchase to be absolutley sure of what it is that you're getting.

    • @The_Iridule
      @The_Iridule ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I noticed when I use the Samsung as a computer monitor, if I go into the settings on Linux anyways and turn off anti-aliasing the text appears clear and crisp.

    • @michaelbeckerman7532
      @michaelbeckerman7532 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@The_Iridule on the Windows side of things, I think there is an application called ClearType that will allow you to make certain adjustments so that if you are using a BRG-based TV as a computer monitor it has some settings that can allow you to make adjustments that will help to make the edges of text appear more crisp and defined. Now, that may not solve all of your problems (and it's probably better to just stick to known RGB TVs like Sony's X75K and likely its new 2023 replacement X77L) but this is something that could certainly help if you must work on a BGR-based TV as your display.

    Samsung it is. Don’t get me wrong I love my Marvel movies but I’m more of a gamer than a movie watcher with every next gen system I don’t know if I’m ever going to buy an expensive tv with a 2.1 hdmi connection plus actually seeing the cu8000 demo mode helped with my preference for getting a budget tv.

    2:07 , i am just talking about colours here , look at wall colour in sony (seems more accurate) , sky looks more closer to atcual sky in sony
    Look at flowers colour in bottom right, sometimes a TV can't win by more brighteness and enhancing the shadows
    A casual tv watcher will prefer sony ,with its excellent colour science

    Bought the starting line up of sony 43 inch X75k 4 days back after weeks of research. This TV was way out of my budget. Rightfully they gave a huge discount which matched my budget. Interesting comparison. We have a 2011 Sony Bravia KDL which we view films and I use with PC for light gaming. Want to upgrade to 4k but here Sony seems better equipped but Samsung better picture! Plus our tv viewed from various angles, say 45deg of centreline so would IPS be better choice at this price range? Thanks for reviewing Steve 👍

    The sad painful truth is nowadays they are making TVs like how they make them out of the movie theaters they are filming them and filmmaker mode so any movie you see that's in HDR 4K won't be as bright how it used to be because how they are making the movies now in the theaters

    I bought 14 different tv´s
    And i´m gonne buy this sony x80k because its supposed to be flicker free.
    For the moment i have the philips the one 8837/12. That tv is very good.. 2.0 hdmi is as good as the 2.1 hdmi on it.
    But yeah pwm tech is no good on all these tv´s.
    I also have the sony a90k still for sale.. also a very good tv... but i would say that the philips does a better overal job in sharpness. Yes... the philips 😮.
    But yeah.. i need a pwm free tv and the sony x80k does that according to rtings.
    I also had the sonyx85j... but that tv was bad. Overall sharpness was just shit on it... and i heard that the sony x85k is the same. Sharpness is just shit. Lets hope that the x80k is sharp. Ooooh and 120hz is overrated.

      Update: the x80k gave me so much headache. Brought it back to the store. Also the contrast was really bad. Like colors were faded.
      So now i´m thinking its not the pwm or bfi giving me headache.. but actually the led..

  • @dperr338

    Sony is better. I do not care for the overly saturated image that Samsung usually goes for. Nor do I care for soap opera effect. My parents have a 75 inch Samsung and I have a 55 inch Vizio M series but looking to upgrade soon. My parents Samsung handles motion poorly. It’s buttery smooth on panning shots but as soon as the action picks up it drops frames and turns into a smeared mess. TERRIBLE! Luckily my Vizio don’t have this option and motion looks natural. The Samsung stutters like crazy when ever anything moves on screen with the motion handling turned off. I cannot stand Samsung for this. Sony would be my first choice.
