Thanks for the help on this!
For anyone having in issue with getting the door to open from the outside after replacing the handle- I realized there wasn't enough tension to open the back latch on the door so I adjusted the rear latch actuation rod attached to the latch by the yellow clip (follow link below - photo 7). Experiment with adjusting the tension of the rod by setting it further into the yellow clip- as in, you'll be able to set the rod in for it be more tight or loose. I set it tighter and viola! it worked.

This Express/Savannah sliding door needs adjusted periodically to make the strikers line up with the latches too.

Thank you for this video. We just bought a 2005 GMC Savana 3500. I've already had to replace the latch in the driver's door because it wouldn't stay shut, and the sliding door is hard to open as well. I'm sure I'll be replacing that one before too long.

I'm glad I could help someone. I couldn't find anything on this topic and TH-cam has been so helpful in the past that I thought it was my turn to pay it forward.

So how do you disconnect the latch rods on both ends properly?

Thanks for the video. Someone tried to punch out the locks on my passenger and sliding door. The lock is screwed up on the passenger door but I just use the remote for it. The sliding door's outside handle and plate were cracked because of that S.O.B. so got an aftermarket replacement and had a repair shop replace it. The interior manual lock is broken but the door works alright otherwise. I've since developed an irritating rattle that seems to be coming from that sliding door so will have to remove that bottom plastic cover (cargo van with no windows on door). From what I've seen on your video, I think the clips for the interior door handle cover plate are missing.

Just bought an 08 1500 passenger van. The seller did tell me the OUTSIDE door handle from the sliding door would work randomly. It opens just fine from the inside. Do you think in my situation I need to buy the entire assembly or just an OUTSIDE door handle? Thanks for the video.

Thank you so much for making this video I have to change my actuator because it has gotten weak so I found out you have to buy the whole lock mechanism too so I will be replacing the hole assembly very soon you gave me a heads-up on how to tackle this job I have to replace the outer door handle also so like I said thank you so much for taking the time and making this great video I will be replacing it with GM Factory parts. Peace

Hi! What did you do to fix the window latch? Mine is failing in my 2013, similar to what you were saying. The video cutoff when you were about to say what you did. Thanks!

      The Hetricks
I carefully drilled out the rivets on the latch and on the door where the latch mounts and installed 3" carriage bolts. There may be better answers out there but that is what has worked for me. It has lasted for over a year now.

I don’t understand why you have to explain about the panels when the problem was the latch , why couldn’t you explain how you replace the latch.

There is option to modify Ador Device and make Automatic Door Opener for Chevy Express. I am working on that now. Got it from AdorUSA.com

Do you need to buy entire latch? Why can't one just buy the plastic handle, which in my case , has broken twice on the outside.Piece of crap Chinese material.
