Good instruction! When I worked on my Safari front doors and removed the inside panels, three out of about 9 of the little white plastic clips (look like little Christmas trees) snapped off. Very hard and brittle plastic. The dealer had a hard time identifying the correct part, but finally did and to our surprise he actually had them in stock. He brought out a little plastic bag containing six little Christmas trees and looked up the price.....$36.00 for the six-pack. Each clip probably cost a penny to make. I complained that the price was outrageous and luckily he agreed. He said, How about $8 bucks, so I agreed to that and we parted friends.
I don’t understand why people are drilling a hole in the door to do this job. It’s his seems pretty straight forward. I didn’t even realize that the top half is it’s own panel, making it that much more doable.
despite the fact I have a Haynes repair manual for 1985 through 2003 Chevy Astros and GMC Safari's, actually seeing the sliding door latch removed helped me figure out I simply wasn't pulling on the linkages correctly. Once I knew that, I figured out that using the interior handle and pulling the linkages at the same time was all I need to do. I think I might put a triple-string ripcord on the inside panel to make sliding it open easier for myself.
Mr., can you point me to the location and tool I need to remove the passenger seat from my 97 ASTRO? I just got it, no idea how to work much in it. But first, the carpet HAS to come out. I cannot figure out how to get to the floor bolts. Is there a way to detach the seat while leaving the bracket thingy bolted to the floor? HALP. No one on any of the auto channels will answer me.
@@JunkworksGarage I see 4 floor bolts, however even with the seat fully forward and back still doesn't allow a socket wrench even close. It's making me think there's a way to leave the beige, square floor bracket in place yet still remove the seat. Is that even possible?
yes they make kits for just about everything if you can't find something specific they make universal kits. as far as a vid i can't help you there sorry i plan on doing it on my mustang but that will be a long time away
Junk works DIY Garage I'm very handy so I guess I will figure it out. So do you think I could get a power window kit that will take the existing door panels and get rid of the window crank?
JDT738126 that i'm not sure but they make grommet hole plugs that might work you'll have to check out some kits i think summit and jc whitney and places like that have kits good luck.
if i ever need to do mine i will do a vid. but i don't want to mess with mine it works well sorry. you might check out ScottysDeatailing channel he has a lot of astro van vids
you can pull the panel without opening the door it will be harder but if you can get the panel off you will have access to rods to pull to get the latch open. my vid shows the latch and rods upclose
VERY INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO THANK YOU , I HAHE A SAFARY VAN AND THE SLIDING DOOR DO NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK WITH THE KEY AND I HAVE TO LOCK AND UNLOCK MANUALLY. BUT NOW WITH the VIDEO I NOW HOW TO START ,THANK YOU AGAIN
My slider door handle busted clean off. Driver side is going. Do yourself a favor and replace the slider wheels. Classic American car manufacturer cheaping out on the minor details and using plastic wheels.
Don't be sorry. I find myself doing that all the time. Literally with that same song lol people just look at me like what? I'm like, How do you not know that song. Lol
I have a 96 Safari and between every single nut and screw is different and the shitty doors and the shitty door handles that keep breaking I am fed up with it. GM sucks at anything they do any more. Not worth wasting my energy on any more.

there should be bolts move the seat all the way forward and then all the way back and that should give you access to them
