- Betty falls asleep doing a jigsaw puzzle of Alice and the white rabbit. She "awakes" just in time to follow the rabbit through the looking glass and disguises as Alice into a modern wonderland. Betty meets most of the traditional inhabitants of Wonderland and sings "How Do You Do" (to the tune of "Everyone Says I Love You") to them. When the Jabberwock steals Betty away, everyone comes to her rescue. Betty wakes up back in her living room, just in time to prevent the white rabbit from again escaping from her puzzle. -

@@02chevyguy You know what else? Ed Wynn played as Uncle Albert in the 1964 Mary Poppins movie! A few others are "The Absent Minded Professor" (Fire Chief, 1961) and a Twilight Zone episode, "One for the Angels" (the Street Salesman episode, 1959.)
He lived to 79, when he died of throat cancer. I guess he was a smoker too, like many were at the time? He lived a good while, though, considering that - many died younger than that of smoking, like the singer of The Waitresses, who died in the mid 1990s when she was 40. Not as though I'm "advocating smoking," because *I'm not advocating it.*

Oh, and the Bear was stealing things from a guy's yard while he was mowing it on a "Zero-Turn" Mower, before charging at me. This dream's still funny to me.

It's a real treat to find a Betty cartoon I never saw. The old cartoons always have such brilliant humor.
I thought I made up this cartoon as a kid, I wasn't sure if I really experienced it or not. I'm so glad to have found it 25 years later. It's nostalgic as heck.
I'm almost positive the head that came out of the Jam jar was Ed Wynn's head, which is the actor that did the voice for the Mad Hatter in the Disney version...so this just got a little more trippy for me.

Definitely Ed Wynn. And if you've watch "Wreck It Ralph", the voice actor who does King Candy does a great impersonation of Ed Wynn.
Ed was on radio with his "TEXACO FIRE CHIEF" program at the time.

At 2:00, then radio star and movie star Ed Winn (1886-1966) makes a cameo. A few years later, he was the voice of the Mad Hatter in Disney's "Alice in Wonderland." One of his most brilliant scenes was in The Twilight Zone's "One for the Angels."
At 3:17 Sterling Holloway makes and appearance as the frog. Years later, he was the voice for the Cheshire Cat in the Disney version. But for some reason, she doesn’t mention him in this version

The 'How are You' song sounds exactly like 'Everyone says I Love You' from The Marx Brothers movie Horse Feathers when the four Marx's are trying to court the college widow Miss. Bailey played by Thelma Todd. It's 100% identical :)

Maybe she was falling at the same speed as Alice in the cartoon from the USSR? There Alice fell very slowly, and only towards the end did she begin to fall faster.

This was the first Betty Boop cartoon I ever saw. I was too young to read correctly, and I misheard someone reading the title, so I thought her name was "Betty Blunder" for a while.
These cartoons are so cute and charming to watch! The animation is amazing for its time, even now I find it fascinating at how good it looks! 🎉
During the late 80s we bought this on vhs from Walmart. Must have watched it a million times. Wore that tape out.

That jam jar bit creeped me out as a kid, and it still kind of weirds me out now.
That's a caricature of Ed Winn, a popular comedian at the time in movies and vaudeville. He later had a part in Disney's Mary Poppins where the children visit the old man floating near the ceiling.

You'd have to see it at your local theater, as there was no regular television programming at the time.
@@fromthesidelines Theaters were really the way to go then. You'd get clips of the news there, too. There's a scene in "Mr. Moto's Last Warning" that gives a good example of a news reel.*
* It's about 48:40 in to the movie, or about 21 minutes before the movie ends.
There were theaters that screened nothing but newsreels (and "selected short subjects", as well).
