My mom had to drive one and said it was awful. It was a cheap car with no redeeming features according to her. She said she would rather Chevette it off a cliff then drive another one. I always laugh about that one.

That car was built in brookfield ohio by my dude Greg. He built it in a car port in his driveway. The engine is a 5.3 from a 99 silverado. Nice to see it's still going .

Did this back in ‘84 with a 327/muncie combo with a narrowed 12 bolt 3:23s.
Definitely wheelie happy with race masters.
Brace the struts and some form of chassis stiffening is mandatory.
    Absolutely insane fun!

I had a T1000 Pontiac which is the same thing. What people don’t know is that the frame was designed for a V8 block mounting! My friend and I took out the lousy 4 banger in mine and told me to take a good look at the frame. I did and said this can take a V8! He said yes those were basically Vega frames. The trannies on those were massive for a four cylinder. The cars were half ass designed using whatever and were not well enginered. The steering column were not even centered. They can be modded to be fun! Anything is an improvement on these.

This reminds me of my first car. 1986 Pontiac Sunbird same color no LS. It got stolen and touched. Loved that car before it got stolen it was broken into and lots of dash damage done to get my radio out. I had to put a Chevy Citation dash in it. Fit like a glove. But great video love how the original rear end was unchanged. Would have loved to have seen a small burnout in it.

I've got an 82 Acadian rusting to pieces in the garage (just shy of 400,000km on it), had two 87 Chevettes and an 86 Acadian. Definitley my favourite car ever. I'm a fan of the 4 door, my dad had a 78 2 door when I was a kid and it was really hard to get in and out of even when I was tiny. I do so miss rear wheel drive but I don't have the funds to fix the 82 and I don't have the heart to trash it yet.

Back in the late 80s, a friend inherited his grandma's Chevette his uncle wanted to make drag car from it but changed his mind after he swapped in a v8 from a Chevy Monza. My friend put Momo star wheels on it, some junkyard Recaros out a Trans Am, and 12" sub in the hatch-an ahead of it's time resto-mod. Lucky to be alive cos that thing was a handful and a half of fun...endless rolling burnouts. Traded it for a Nissan mini truck lowrider.

They sold 2 door notch back coupe Chevettes down here where I am in Brazil...I really want to import one back to the states and do something like this with it...maybe even put it on top of a drop out from a wrecked C5/C6/C7 complete driveline, engine, tq tube, transaxle, front/rear suspension, brakes, wheel/tire if I could get the wheelbase to match up, do cam+springs, turbo, fuel system, clutch/converter. Make it look very sedate from the outside with a well rounded package of grip, brakimg and handling to gomwith all the power...would be absolutely sick.

( these mainly sold to a group of Mexicans ) they would come up from Arkansas , to Imperial Mo., and they would buy $$$ everyone we had! ( small hatchbacks ) and drive them all in convoy, with flashers on the last one on a tow dolly! It was a sight to see! 😂 but, they always came back, and purchased more! Every Month!

We thought when a guy decided to cram a 4.3 in one that was going to be the fastest chevette to ever drive down the road and the dumbest engine swap ever. It only took 30 years, but I would imagine that 4.3 vette no longer holds the crown. Impressive getting it in there. I'll never understand why a chevette! But good work fellas!

I do not believe that is an 1987 model year, but most likely a 1985 model year as there is no center high mounted brake light on top of the hatchback, unless the hatchback was replaced at some point. Regardless is in great shape. I had a 1987 Pontiac Acadian as my first car and loved it. I upgraded the tires to 70's serious and had a great stereo system in it for the day (Alpine). That car always started on me and never broke down in our harsh Canadian Winters. I kept it until 1995 and 400,000 km's on the original engine and transmission with no rebuilds.

I remember the day my mother took me to take my drivers test. I passed and she let me drive her Berreta GT home. On the way she asked what kind of car I wanted to get and I said a Chevette. She said “A Corvette!” Because I guess that’s what I had said. No not a Corvette I said a Chevette I told her and she started laughing a didn’t stop till we were almost home. I really did want a Chevette but wound up getting a Triumph TR7 as my first car instead

I had an 87 around 25 years ago. It was great on gas but sooo slow. I'm sure the power steering and power brakes didn't help either!

I would totally own that, a mild 375-400hp 4.7 or 5.3 in that 2500 or so lb car would probably feel and be faster than a new LT1 Camaro. Its sleeper vibe is strong except for the hood having 80% cut out to make room for the swap.

stock rearend will die quick if that's what is on there. You can do a S10 rear conversion pretty easy. Hot Rod Magazine did a 500 CadillacV8 Chevette at one time. Look it up if you're interested.

I love it but I don’t understand why they made it stick out so far. You can fit a standard small block in a stock body Chevette and keep it under the hood. Either way it’s awesome

I agree, it's a hack job... You can fit a big block under the hood... With the angle of that engine I wonder how long the u-joints will last...

Anytime I see a "Shove-it" it reminds me of my friend giving me a ride to high school in his sporty multi colored 2 door........the shear look of panic on his face when the entire shifter (knob AND stick) came off in his hand down shifting for a stop sign😅😂🤣 $#!%@ box from hell he yelled after stopping it, he peeled the shifter boot back and the stick fit back in and got us there

    • @I95Muscle
      @I95Muscle  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Haha! Reminds me of my friend's dad who always told us a story about his transmission falling out of his 69 Road Runner after jumping some railroad tracks and how he had to hold it up off the street by the shifter knob until he could come to a stop.

A stock Chevette has what's called a floating rear end...that will be ripping right out after you floor it afew times. The car stock. Weights 2,200 pds. You took out 325 pound drive line. And put in 1,000pds. Your still short 4 to 500 pds of framing...that's why this is barely done to chevettes. They will weight like a chevelle if done right.
