iRig Stream Audio Interface Review - Awesome for recording DJ sets!

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 8 ก.พ. 2025
- iRig Stream is a small audio interface designed to get audio into your iOS device, Android device or laptop, so you can record or stream that audio. For laptop DJs, it would be useful to plug in to their DJ controller in order to record their DJ set on a second device - for instance their phone or tablet.
And while any type of audio interface with at least a single stereo input would be able to do this job, there are things about the iRig Stream's feature set that make it particularly suited to doing this for DJs, which we'll cover in this review.

Just want to say THANK YOU to Digital DJ Tips. I've gone from a complete technophobe, to creating a mixcloud page, uploading some music and streaming live on Facebook using the tips and tools through the videos you've made. I've not quite made it as a superstar DJ yet, but it's definitely kept me occupied during the lockdown. Thanks again!
Awesome, really glad to hear that - good work!
Thanks To You Phil I Just got My IRIG Stream from Amazon. I am Not going to record on twitch, just play live, and hopefully, I will not be axed. A Big Fan. I really enjoy your Honesty. Dj discOworm San Fransisco 2021 June
Nice one! Have fun :)
Thank You! Congratulations for your channel. Happy holidays to you.
Thanks :)
Holy Shit!!!!!! I was going off tomorrow to buy an Audio Interface and I have an iRig Pro I/O which is an Audio Interface and came with the USB cable to go into the Laptop I will be using for a Zoom session. It should probably do the trick. I dont have the one output issue because I am using a DDJ SX2 with booth and Master outputs. Man I love your tutorials.
Awesome, glad to help :)
@@digitaldjtips Just to update you, I tried it today and it was spot on. Sound quality on Zoom is incredible (and I hated Zoom for DJ Sessions) Anyway, I cant think you enough. Oh I used the iRig Pro I/O the results are the same as the iRig Stream.
Awesome, glad to hear hear it!
Thank you for the demo and review! Just bought mine!
No problem!
@@digitaldjtips tried hacking with TRRS cable, but there's just way too much distortion
I got a IRig Pro Duo. I love it every bit of it and it works great for my flexibility for my DJ set when I want to do a record on my phone and save it or laptop for that too. Great review and keep up the work. Funk up Salute Peace
Awesome :)
@@digitaldjtips thank you
Hello sir , I would like to know if I can use this device to record my dj set directly into my iphone when I’m live on instagram
The two standards for time code are IRIG and SMPTE. IRIG is used in anything military or industrial, and SMPTE is used for video sync and MIDI time code. In 2007-2008 I worked on avionics software that used IRIG. Seeing an audio device called iRig hurts my brain. It doesn't make any sense. It's like if the Air Force made a new airplane and named it the 56k Modem for no reason. 🙂
I just received the iRig Stream and iRig Pro l/O 🤔
Ready to go live!
Good luck!
Just use the Reloop Tape2. Way simpler. Plug it in, put an SD card in it. Job done...
Another option for sure :)
For the price what the Tape 2 cost I would go with the EverMix Box 4 or a Tascam DR40x
this is so damn useful, I was just thinking about is this possible to record mixes on iring if dj controller doesn't have output for rekording, and I got ananswer! Thank you
Glad this helped you
I found the solution. It should be noted that ik Multimedia did not tell me this option. But on their website if they refer to using an OTG adapter in Android, however I write here the solution for all those who have Android. The problem is that they must activate the developer option on their Android. And the debugging option via usb indicating to the cell phone to recognize the irig as an audio source. ANOTHER thing, do not ask me why but since they activate the debugging and audio source option. Connecting your irig will not detect it. Do not get scared. Disconnect it and reconnect it. It has worked 100 percent of the time. That it and tried the audio quality is phenomenal and recording with the native camera of your cell phone you achieve impressive videos with just that device and your cell phone and some rca. I was very upset I had bought 3 irig and I thought I lost my money but I already found out how it works! I hope it helps you.
Thanks for sharing
Mine is hooked up correctly and you can't hear anything. . . . . . .
Amazing review and insightful videos.
I have just purchased one to go with my Pioneer DJM 800.
(Hopefully will arrive before the Bank Holiday weekend)
I'm going to try rig this out of booth/ master port to a second computer which has OBS.
What extra cables do I need? will it come with RCA cable and the USB cable to the laptop? I feel I will get a better stream using a second laptop through OBS, rathet than streaming through a Samsung galaxy 20.
Keep up the great videos, I've learned so much for a beginner!
Thank you and stay safe!
Joe Chips Body Coach 👍
It'll come with a USB cable to connect to your laptop but not an RCA cable
@@digitaldjtips does this work for live streaming also? On instagram for example?
absolutely perfect explanation of how it works, thanks, I want to use for a podcast. I have an 18i8 audio interface from Focusrite but do you have any mic recommendations that would plug into the 1/8" mini jack input on the iRig Stream
IK Multimedia themselves actually make a couple of microphones, we've not used them but they might be worth a look
I bought two irig stream for these recommendations. And they don't work with Android 9, Huawei Mate 20 Pro model. And they don't work with iphone 11 pro either. I'm frustrated Because I trust your reviews Sorry for the tone. I was very excited to receive the product and I can't make it work. In high end devices. Iphone 11 pro. Huawei mate 20. Huawei p30
Sorry to hear of your misfortune, but we're glad you trust our tutorials :) Always make sure to check the specs of anything before you buy it to ensure it works with your setup
@@digitaldjtips I bought them on Amazon, in the specifications it mentions compatibility with iphone and Android. Higher than 5. My Huawei mate 20 pro is Android 9. And perform the tests with an iphone 11 pro. I already sent a message to the company ikmultimedia. If you review your comments you will see that I am not the only one with this problem. In the specifications if you mention that it is compatible with these platforms. Thanks for answering. I know you are not to blame. But they motivated me to buy it from their site. I look forward to having a company solution to my problem.

Hey Phil when are you gonna show us how to do Live Streaming with the iK iRig Pro Duo?
Please teach it step by step!
I don't think we will, we advice students to get the Stream
Hi guys, great video again. I purchased the iRig Stream a few weeks ago and it works like a charm. But my question would be when using my XDJ-XZ with Pioneer powered speakers. Which Master output should I use while mixing in my bedroom for input to speakers and input to the iRig, 1 or 2 or does it not matter, even when not using the iRig. Thanks
Shouldn't matter :)
Digital DJ Tips Great news, nothing to change then and no new more wires
Hi Phil...love the channel but please can you make people aware that the power cable which will cost you extra WILL NOT CHARGE ANDROID DEVICES I now have a cable that cost me over 40 pounds & is of no use
I have the same problem.
Thanks for the additional info, will they not let you return it?
@@digitaldjtips I bought it from a store in Germany...was just for anyone else before they purchase it👍
Awesome‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️ thanks
Hi Phil, great video. One question for you. If I don't want to use external speakers and just want to mix in my headphones which are plugged into my mixer will that be OK?
Yes
Hi Phil and team! I'm having a hard time figuring out exactly what kind of cable/adapter you are referring to between 5:00 - 5:15, as well as visualising how that would look and what would be connected to what in order to get microphone audio. You mention linking it below in the video but maybe you forgot to do so? A brief explanation would be really appreciated. Using a controller and small PA live mixer set up.
Hi Ray, any cable that does this: www.amazon.com/MillSO-Headphone-Splitter-Adapter-Compatible/dp/B071DMCZQF/ref=sr_1_3
Oh okay that's great to know. Assuming any kind of mini jack microphone will work in that, including earphones. Can the audio from the dj controller rca and microphone input be split in the recording? Or does all come in at once depending on the volume level of the microphone?
Great review, thanks ! What do you think about Native Instruments Traktor Audio 2 MK2 to start as a beginning DJ ? Cheers
What are you using it for? To DJ with your laptop/phone?
@@digitaldjtips Thanks for the quick reply, I will use it with with my laptop
I don't believe we've ever reviewed it but we had one lying around, it'll be handy if you want to DJ with just your laptop and need to connect it to a club mixer etc you would probably have more fun grabbing something like the DJ2GO2 for pretty much the same price though
@@digitaldjtips Ok thanks a lot.
What about the iRig Stream Solo? It’s half the price. I’m worried if we can adjust the output level to avoid clipping the sound into Instagram live. I know it has output level control, but how can we check the levels? Using the iRig app maybe?
Bought on an Irig recently...... What kind of an App do I need..... I DJs on Tiktok for fun..... And trying to get goo quality sound
I know I'm a little late but can you do a demonstration on how to stream with it
Plug it in to your computer and select it as the audio source in your streaming software
Thanks for the info. I'm doing an all Vinyl set to post on TH-cam
Good luck
Thank you for this tip. Can I just check, will it work/record audio off my controller? Also, does it requires an app on my iPhone to save the audio files?
Any audio app that can record will work on iPhone, including the built in one. It can record audio from any audio source you plug into it.
Is this still good?
Yes
Im currently using this video for my set up lololol
This is awesome
Need a video to hook it up to android phone to stream on tiktok with mixer/controller
Would this be a worthy upgrade from the Behringer U-CONTROL UCA222 ?
Better sound quality?
Currently using OBS/Mixcloud from Xone43c. Thanks for the great review
If the UCA222 gives you the functionality you need, I'd stick with it.
What cables will I need for my 200 DDJ Pioneer to live- stream on my MacBook Air M2 ?
I just bought mine but i cant update the firmware always got the error msg.i need help to fix this
I have 2 individual monitors, what do i do?
Hi and thank you for this video. I have a ddj flx 4 which also only has rca cable as output.
My setting is as follows :
1. Rca cable to 3.5 jack
2. Split
3.a jack 3.5 to jack 3.5 jack to monitor
3.b jack 3.5 to rca to irig pro
I don’t get any signal on the irig but I do get one with the monitor.
Do you know if the irig only works with a rca to rca cable then ?
Hi phil, i did step by step what you illustrated on this video with the IRIG Stream. But i do not get sound out of my speakers. I am using Virtual dj software. Does that affecr the sound? Please help.
Very difficult to diagnose here Perez, best thing to do is post on the VDJ forum with the exact information (what version of VDJ, what OS, what cables and equipment you're using) and you're bound to get help specific to you
Would love to know where to check the recordings?
Not sure what you're asking here
What would u recommend I’m looking something similar to the Evermix box is there on u can recommend please
the iRigs are a good choice
@@digitaldjtips I went for the Roland go mixer pro x goid choice or go with I rig
I cannot make the mic input work. I have the adapter but I get no signal. Is the DC power needed or does it only work with a certain type of mic?
How is it better than a Zoom H1n or a Tascam DR-05X ? both have mic included and don't need a phone or computer to records, they're all on the same price range (even the DR-07 for a little more, but with better mic option)
We haven't reviewed those options for DJ applications
Those 2 are external recorders, different category.Don't get me wrong, they are good products and they used most of the time for capturing sounds and noises for production,or as a microphone also u can use the Tascam as an external soundcard not sure about the zoom. The iRig is also an external soundcard but designed to use with your phone and live streaming
Hi thanks for the cool vid. I'm hearing that the usb to usb c cable does not work on android phones. Is this correct?
It requires a different cable I think, check out the specs here it's mentioned in compatibility: www.ikmultimedia.com/products/irigstream/index.php?p=specs
If i connect one to the numark Mixstream pro. Would i even need RCA cables to speaker, (mini jack one) Since the pro has built-in speakers?
Not if you don't want to use external speakers
@@digitaldjtips I can confirm it works like this Phil. Just got it up and running and did a few quick checks. All seems good. Cheers! 👊

@@digitaldjtips Thanks
Will it work with prime2 to livestream?
Yes
Am I missing something here? How does the audio get into the laptop? I thought you had to do audio in through the headphone/microphone jack? If it is going in through the usb, where exactly is it going? I want to connect my Xone42 mixer to my macbook so i can stream live on youtube. Would this device service that purpose? Thank you in advance for any responses.
Yes it will, you just need to plug the ouput of the mixer/controller into the input of the audio interface and then run the output of the audio interface into your computer
I guess then working through something like obs it would show up as an audio input?
would the iRig stream solo also be enough?
basically all i want is a stereo input to record, with adjustable input gain for the stereo input. i don't need the 3rd mic input, nor do i need the ability, to "foward" the sound from the soundcard to the speakers, as my mixer already has 2 separate outputs.
based on this, i think the stream solo should be enough? i'm just not sure, because it claims to have a mono output only. not sure if it would somehow record my mixes in mono or so? i don't think it would, but never saw this in a soundcard before, and would love to make sure
Phil My I-rig does not show up on my obs menu. Any suggestions? Dj discOworm
Hmm, does any other software on your computer recognise the iRig as an input?
@@digitaldjtips THANKS PHIL. NOTHING RECOGNIZES
That's odd, I'd try talking to IK multimedia to see if they have any suggestions
does facebook live accept stereo from this thing and stream in stereo? or does it require mono from phones?
I have a DDJ 400 and iPad Air 4 what extra cables do I need to record a set please . I am also using a steaming service ?
It depends what software you're using to DJ with - you may just be able to record in your DJ software.
Whats the difference between using this and the RODE SC4 cord to convert the sound when live streaming? Is the sound quality better?
Better quality, more versatile, works with controllers that only has one output
HD 2 is the same?
Do you have any advice for a similar device that can easily match left + right channel signals for streaming - but will accept a TRS cable input? I just really don't like RCAs in general..
Not really, as most such device will accept 2 x mono balanced TRS, not 1 x stereo TRS. But if that's what you mean, then there are many - look at production audio interfaces such as the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2
I Been Waiting For My Irig Stream Since April 16th 😞
Oh wow :( That's ages!
I have a Roland DJ-808 controller. It has XLR and RCA master outs and TRS booth outs. I use the XLRs out to my monitors, would running the RCAs out to the Irig cause any type of issues?
No it shouldn't
Hi Phil,
Is that exactly or a alternative vs the Evermixbox 4 ? thanks !
Yes pretty much Eric :)
Hey - My DJ controller does not have a mic input so I'm using this iRig Stream's mic input to try and talk over my mixes. What adapter/Microphone type is needed and is there any chance you can link ones that would work? I bought a wired Microphone and a TRRS adapter but am having no luck! Any help would be massively appreciated!
Any dynamic microphone will work with the correct lead and/or adapter. The first step is to plug in a pair of wired headphones with a built-in mic, like the ones they used to give away with smartphones before wireless, and see if you can get the microphone to work on that. If so, then you know it's all working and it's just a case of getting the right lead.
You mentioned a trrs adapter for the headphone/mic being linked but I don't see it?
It's the Rode SC4 we recommend :)
How does this differ from the irig pro duo? Wondering if i need to spend the extra $100 or not
We haven't used the iRig Pro Duo, the iRig Stream is more than enough for us
What speakers are these?
Anyone use one of these with a djm250mk2?
Can you go usb out on the Prime 4 without a interface or do I have to buy this as well ?
To our knowledge, you need an interface too.
Can you do one with the komplete audio please
We'll see what we can do :)
Hi does the Irig lead din to lightning fit the evermix mixbox and work ? As we know evermix is no longer available and I need a new din to lightning lead as mine has broke and will it work with the evermix app ?
Sorry, I do not know the answer to that.
Got a question I’ve my irig stream connected to my DJ setup
Everytime I’m recording and the music is a lil louder the led it’s turning blue and it’s disconnected
Any Tipps ? When I’m turning the gain down on the mixer it’s not loud enough
No idea, the level shouldn't make a difference
Hello there.. How can set it up with Xone k2 can you tell me please what cables can use ????
Just a simple RCA cable
Can this be used to create a stereo main output, and stereo headphone monitoring output for the ddj 200 running wedj as the ddj 200 doesn’t have a built in audio interface and I’m not a fan of the idea of using the splitter cable that comes with it as prefer to DJ in stereo sound.
Don’t think so, as this is only an “in” audio interface. You need an audio interface that is at least “4 out” (that is, 2 x stereo channels)
@@digitaldjtips which portable audio interface would you recommend would be best for the task I’m looking to do.
The Traktor Audio 2 is small and does the job, if you can get one.
What software do you use for recording ? Som tips for Windows?
You can use any recording app available to you :)
Possible silly question here. Can the recording device be the same laptop that you are running your Dj software on to mix with?
Yes, 100%
@@digitaldjtips Phil, you are legend 💪🏻
I still don't understand the logic of the Everbox. Why is there no input level for the gain?
All mixers I know with a recording output can't control this. So if the signal clips, my recording will be totally distorted.
how it pluga nad record on computer?
I bought the evermix4 and I'm having trouble with it working with my phone. So I might try the irig stream, what I liked about evermix4 is that it has a app to save and edit DJ mixes, does the irig stream have a app where I can safe mixes and edit them?

Hi there!Nice video!I have the EVERMIX Box 4 and it's pretty good.Recording is easy and if you connect it with a usb cable to power it's charging your phone at the same time.My only hiccup with the system is that you suppose to be able to stream with it, but I only want to record my videos(with the audio so I don't need to edit them) using the phone camera and it's not working all the time.I can record thru TH-cam app and only in 1080p no matter if your phones camera is on 4K.If a record with the camera app there is no audio.
Did you guys tested it out?Have the same experiences?
Can the iRig Stream record together audio with video?
Btw what are those speakers in the video? They are sexy.
Thanks in advance!
Speakers are IK Multimedia. You can definitely do that with the iRig Stream, in theory I don't see why you can't do it with the Evermix, but the Evermix is sold as a closed system so there may be something limiting you. I haven't tried it myself I'm afraid.
I have the same issue with EvermixBox I was told my unit might be faulty but I knew everyone had the same issue. I did use Irig before with video recording and it’s also a hit or miss (not the stream version thought) normally with an app such as Youutubr and Facebook it never misses but direct video recording from iPhone it’s a hit or miss... tried so many other units including Roland GoMix Pro and Zoom all have same issue with video recording. I feel it’s an iOS issue as there is no way to find out it it’s the internal mic picked up or the Unit. There are however some apps that allow thisZ

@@artworked Yeah, same here Bro.Tried out many possibilities.iPhone was always in my interest to use the video recorder for something as it is really good quality.Used the Rode SC4,didnt work out.I have iRig2 the classic solution for many people's don't like it and most of the time it's mono.Later purchased iRig Pro which is more for phones and stuff but I didn't like the sound either.I got recommended the Tape 2 from Reloop but for the price it's only a recorder.I went with the Tascam dr40x which is awesome and the same price like the tape 2.Unfortunatley not the right item for me as I own a Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 2nd gen.Kind of regret to sent it back to amazon as I got it for cheap price.Used the Pioneer DJM-REC app which sounds like a perfect app but on iOS 13 wasn't working until last month(was disconnecting during recording all the time ), and you need to have a newer gen djm mixers what I'm not using, only at the radio where i dj.Bummer.EvermixBox is cool but that feature is missing from it, it works when it works unfortunately.iRig Stream looks like is going to have the feature.I'll guess we have to test it to find out.
At the moment the perfect solution is for home recording or streaming is your laptop(preferred a Mac)Focusrite 2i2 , an Elgato Camlink and a Gopro.(got an old Hero 4 but I want to upgrade to the latest because of the setting they have makes them much more customisable for indoors) It's perfect to use this but not very portable, then again your phone is with you all the time, has a great camera so why not use it?Right?

Basically what i want to do is record my set with my DSLR to get the good quality video BUT also have the video with good quality audio. Because obviously the internal mic from the DSLR captures all other sounds going around in the area and all i want it to capture is the audio coming from the controller. I'm wondering if i can accomplish that by using an output from my DDJ-1000SRT into the iRig Stream, then from the iRig Stream into the DSLR camera which has a 3.5mm TRS input.
If you're not streaming you'll want to simply record the audio and video separate and then combine them in a video editing software afterwards
What other interfaces can you use for similar purpose
Pretty much any should work, this is the only one for iOS and Android that we've tried and approved :)
