I can't wait for this... I too am holding my breath because it's been such a LONG time with many mishaps here and there. Saying that however, the X games were a worthy replacement while Elite was aimlessly roaming the abyss. The X games WERE good but, Elite was always something a bit more special... Given the fact that it was the progenitor for all such games ever since. Let us pray it's going to be something really special once more!
Sorry, but the X series were never even remotely close to a worthy replacement for Elite, since they have no proper realistic galaxy nor seamless atmospheric flight nor landing on planets also they had a focus on empire building and fleet management instead.
Wormhole ThirtyTwoHundred Well... We're both in agreement that Elite was far superior but, personally, I enjoyed the X Games... Well... X3 Reunion anyway (I never played earlier games and Terran Conflict won't run on my VERY old machine!). I guess the empire building element in the X Games is what made it fun (if empire building was your thing!), but you're right! Elite is by and large a far superior game on many fronts and I hear that the new X Game is now basing itself very much on the Elite model of the player just controlling one main ship.
I think This trailer would be a lot cooler if it was done in anacondas or something because then it would actually make sense because sidewinders surviving more than 10 seconds in a conflict zone is nearly impossible and I don't care how much of an amazing pilot you are or how engineered your sidewinder is you're probably going to be ending up as a floating piece of wreckage
I understand that cool close flyghtroughs are trailer-taken liberty and I am fine with that. What I really miss in game we've got is the lack of comm chater and interactivity. I never got called for help by anyone, and any comms is almost by text only.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but was that a freakin' intergalactic jump in the beginning?! Don't get me wrong, I love the game, but it's still not as awesome as this clip from 3 years ago...
I dunno What to say! This is awesome! This is exactly what i've always imagined. Thank you very much! As already said: i am so glad i've backed up commander jameson :D
As someone who's read the Honor Harrington novel series by David Weber, this space battle was pretty tame. In those books there are multiple large ships whose missiles have multiple stages, use FTL gravity pulse technology to communicate, etc. etc. There's no reason the ship in this video couldn't have "launched all tubes" to begin with. Other than that, pretty cool.
theres capital ships and stuff, but not nearly as good as this. They just sit there shooting as stuff, they don't move, and theres no damage effects on them. You take out their heat relays and they leave. woo.
Amazing. I already watched it for ....I actually lost count.... Eagerly waiting for the alpha, beta and final game. I just can't wait!!! Just amazing. This clip took me back to the 80's when i used to imagine such scenes as i looked at a wire frame graphics filled screen on my BBC Model B. Give us more of these mouth watering clips!!!... and thank you!!!
+Ermy Looks hella cool though. Taken as shorts and not as indications of gameplay, all these trailers are super cool, and feel kinda like the stories you make up in your head sometimes. Pretty cool in their own right.
+Ermy Well, in this video specifically, the game wasn't even done yet.Trailers like this are sort of expected to not really indicate gameplay, and Frontier puts up lots of videos of gameplay, too. These trailers have their place, and there's lots of gameplay footage if that's what you're looking for.
I'm not sure what kind of computer you have, but I have a mid range PC and hyperspace loading takes only about 15 seconds. Meanwhile I wouldn't even call the transition in and out Supercruise a loading screen it is so short. Less than 5 seconds. How does this game even run for you?
That looks absolutely stunning, I only have one thing that stood out, the huge explosions needs to be slower, those are explosions the size of huge buildings. Except for that, absolutely brilliant.
This is looking great and I'm glad to see the appearance of the directional thrusters around the edges of the ships, which makes it look a lot less like air combat moved into space. Still not sure about the atmospheric effects on the explosions and missile trails though. I wish I'd been able to justify to cost of contributing to the kickstarter but I might just start saving up for this now! I'm not normally big fan of in-game music, but this sounds pretty good too. Excellent job guys!
Ok so I am playing the Gamma right now, and assuming there will not be a huge feature patch between gamma and official release, this is either the "coolest most boring game ever" or "most boring cool game ever". The scope of the galaxy is obviously mindblowing, the galaxy mechanics are great (Frameshift/Supercruise/interdiction), the visuals etc. are good. But what is a sandbox worth if its only filled with sand ? What is the motivation to grind credits for an expensive ship, if the only benefit it gives you is more grind. And it is so dull, I am not even talking WoW kind of dull, where you have at least a questline. Not even. It's just fetch/kill quests or "missions" or trading, wich is basicly fetching without a quest. The multiplayer aspect is just not there besides the fact that you can see the other person, and move in the same space. There are no cooperative missions or activities. Absoluteley no incentives to comunicate with other players. Don't get me wrong, I am huge spacesim fan, and an ED fan in particular, I would not have backed the game or post comments about it otherwise. I just dont understand how most people are completley cool with this game. I mean it would be ok in alpha but no way this is acceptable as a finished product. (Public release) And besides how is this not supposed to be boring? Or am I missing like 70% of the whole game?
Pretty much all the selling points, other than the massive galaxy, are a fabrication at this point in time. It's sad that even at their preview event they seem to be trying to hoodwink people into believing that group content exists.
I watched some different "let's plays" of this game and I totally agree. You have this HUUUUGE space but pretty much nothing to do. You get a mission where you basically have to fly somewhere whcih can take a ridiculous amount of time just flying in a straight line and when you get there there may be a rather boring fight.
Cr1mSoNOuTLaW Calling this a release-version is still ridiculous. It's just not a finished game unless you enjoy doing the same few things over and over again.
There are several space combat games coming out soon, and most of them have released videos of one sort or another. I'm not going to badmouth any of the others, each look fun in their own way, but this video alone gave me flashbacks to being 7 years old and seeing Return of the Jedi for the first time. BRAVO and this gamer wants more!
Star Citizen has cooler ships but Elite has a cooler HUD (compared to stuff they've shown if you look for it. Frankly I think Elite will have a cooler one either way. Too bad you're flying space envelopes)
Ehh this HUD looks meh to me, and I believe RSI has hired one of the people that created the HUD for the Iron man movies to do the HUD for Star Citizen. So if he gets anything close to the detail of the HUD in those movies in game, I doubt this games HUD will be even comparable. Just my opinion though.
Having just recently discovered OOlite, The idea of a Elite: Dangerous makes me all tingly Between this and Robert's Star Citizens I think this genre is about to make a comeback. Bigtime.
Well, there's still a Kickstarter going, for the audio book projects from Fantastic Books - www.kickstarter.com/projects/fantasticbooks/official-elite-fiction-release-in-audio-and-print?ref=live
why does it have to be a competition between start citizen and elite? why cant you all get along like the developers of each game. If either game looks interesting to you then you should support the genre as a whole...don't make it a CoD vs. Battlefield dispute
So true, despite being space sims both game are very different and both will do or have something than the other will not. So instead of trying to decide the "best one" (even when both game did not even launched), people start chose the one than has the features they want (or wait and play both and chose the best one for them)? Using the analogy you brought of COD and BF, both are FPS but this don't make them the same. Chose the best one for you have fun instead of lose time with stupid fanboys wars on the internet with people we don't even know. For me it's a combo Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous, Limit Theory and No Man's Sky. if one of than suck I have the other as backup. Also Elite is out in March 2014 and Star Citizen just in early 2015, there is plenty of time for people play Elite before Star Citizen.
I don't know much about Elite Dangerous but from what ive seen from most videos, they are often just in ships and they don't go into planets but into space stations. As for Star Citizen, you can step out of your ship, go to planets, walk around your ship and many more. too many to list in one sitting. I don't intend to bash Elite Dangerous, I have only seen like 6-8 videos of it and I'm still not sure what it offers in the future. As for no man's sky, I have no total interest on it since it bashed Star Citizen.
Francois Yalung Elite will have first person elements identical to Star Citizen, though it'll come in expansions, rather than being there on release. ED is going to release this year though, if things go as planned.
After following both games for a while, i have come to these conclusions: Star Citizen: +Ship Design +Sci-fi skyboxes +Star wars style combat +All content on release -At least a year until release +limited universe so stuff is condensed for more action Elite Dangerous: +Sound Design +Realistic skyboxes (still awesome though) +more realistic combat, also feels awesome -some content (eg. going into planets and walking out of ships) to come in expansions +release possibly this year +Whole galaxy simulated so greater free roam (still big battles though organised by the devs)
I really hate these "star wars vibes". I hope Erasmus will be capable of doing something more authentic and original for the rest of the soundtrack, Elite Dangerous deserves more.
***** Capital Ships don't fly around the galaxy there deployed to specific operations so you'd be in port most of the time and you wouldn't be in charge of your deployment etc.
***** well one of the philosophys of elite dangerous is: leave anybody a chance. i dont see where a fucking capital ship in starter area intercepting freschly spawned sidewinders for: "the shits and giggles" is much of a chance. sidewinder vs cobra, nimble sidy outturns it and can jump into the next systhem or just engage FSD. you always have a chance at the moment, not a fighting one but at least a running one, on top of that i dont see how 5* 24missileports and over 20+ highcaliber gunturrets aiming at you whilst you fly out of a station is much of a chance.
Cracking video! Enjoyed the music too - Looking forward to what the Erasmus does for a main theme! I recently wrote an orchestral rearrangement of the old Frontier Elite 2 theme. I uploaded it here so find it via my profile, or do a search. It's on Soundcloud too. But yeah, exciting times!
***** The game is great and is getting better every month. Its frustrating at times but that just makes it more impressive when you get somewhere. Who wants an easy game? But the practice missions are more difficult that the game itself - some of them are impossible to do it seems like the stealth mission unless you forget the stealth. But the game is still being balanced and developed. This will be the space game to play for many a year if it is even half as good as the previous Elite games when released (and its far better than any of them already IMO).
***** Didnt you own any of the earlier games? They were even more difficult. In those games you didnt stand a chance if you were jumped my more than one pirate. If you are having issues with the game what are they?
that is not what an autocannon is. Autocannons are cannons that fire in full auto. The multicannons are different because technically they are revolving cannons. Autocannons have a single barrel.
Either I just saw the most skilled sidewinder pilots in the galaxy or the most inept capital ship crew in existence. The only true thing is the first sidewinder getting sent to the black in 2 seconds after getting hit with a beam laser.
4 years later and there's nothing even close to this gameplay: sidewinder effectiveness, group missions, actual indoor fighting... oh and capital ship combat. Right now you blow up a couple of "heat vents" modules on a capital ship and then they warp out. Nice. No money or missions or any actual gameplay to direct you to a capital ship either. Lol
Usually no one publishes pitches, because they are just technical works, and usually sound too familiar with other material. They just show technical writing skills. This one is exception, and it was explained in KS update :)

I just saw this video to day for the first time holy crap this game is going to be so awesome.
nobody mentions the fact, that the sideys are coming from the outer parts of the galaxy, with 46% fuel still in the tank... beside the combat capabilities of these commanders, its a hell of a sidey if you ask me :D
Wow that looks real good. Love the hyperspace or whatever they call it ... Wicked sense of speed and scale in there.
Four Sidewinders? What is this, the Iron Pringle Squadron?
pretty neat. look forward to seeing more from you guys!
If only elite dangerous combat was really this good
If only the game was actually like this rather than a jousting match in space.
instead of facing the other ship directly try to get behind it or above/below it so that you can see them but they can't see you
Correct me if I'm wrong, but was that a freakin' intergalactic jump in the beginning?!
Don't get me wrong, I love the game, but it's still not as awesome as this clip from 3 years ago...
I think it might have been a nebula, doesn't look like the milky way.
It’s more likely a nebula, not a galaxy
Greetings, it's been 7 years and it's still not even remotely close to this video.
Nice. Like the music. Very exciting to see that fantastic jump motion, the missile trails, and the ability to look around in a fluid manner.
Thank god those sidewinders showed up when they did. Who know what would have happened.
One of them would not have exploded. probably
The battles in the game are absolutely great. Lasers flying left and right.
Lasers that fire continuous beams! Finally someone got it right!
Cant believe its been such a short time since we 'kickstarted' this and look where we are now! Started to get a wee bit excited!
Other than that, pretty cool.
and nothing in the game is anything like this
than you probably never played it m8
Actually if conflict zones have lots of stuff going on a capital ship will come
theres capital ships and stuff, but not nearly as good as this. They just sit there shooting as stuff, they don't move, and theres no damage effects on them. You take out their heat relays and they leave. woo.
You may have problems with understanding that this is a CINEMATIC VIDEO.
It's still really fun, when they warp in and out it makes the god damn coolest sound on earth I swear.
Awesome! If the in-cockpit view is a relatively accurate example of what will be in the end product, I'm *very* happy!
If only Elite was actually like this.
I like the game. But this video is so fake it hurts.
+Ermy Looks hella cool though. Taken as shorts and not as indications of gameplay, all these trailers are super cool, and feel kinda like the stories you make up in your head sometimes. Pretty cool in their own right.
+pizza4554 yes, but are totally fake. the game has supercool things. why not use them?
+Ermy Well, in this video specifically, the game wasn't even done yet.Trailers like this are sort of expected to not really indicate gameplay, and Frontier puts up lots of videos of gameplay, too. These trailers have their place, and there's lots of gameplay footage if that's what you're looking for.
This was a pre-pre-alpha cinematic trailer. Of course it doesn't look like the game does now.
this video was made before the release, they had no idea it's not this epic :/
This game looks fun.
this trailer is 8 years old and the game looks worse than the pov shots still
wtf, it definitely looks better :D The only thing that maybe looks better here are maybe some reflections.
The day I get “saved” by 4 sidewinders is the day I fucking die
Hyperspace. Loading... STAR. Supercruise. cooldown. Hyperspace. Loading... STAR. Supercruise. cooldown. Hyperspace. Loading... STAR. Supercruise. Aim. Wait 5 minutes. Slow down. Drop out of supercruise. Loading...
I'm not sure what kind of computer you have, but I have a mid range PC and hyperspace loading takes only about 15 seconds. Meanwhile I wouldn't even call the transition in and out Supercruise a loading screen it is so short. Less than 5 seconds.
How does this game even run for you?
The Albatross no loading
cannonfodder343 15 seconds too long
it's not the loading times he's complaining about, but the fact that this game is always the same. very repetitive
That looks absolutely stunning, I only have one thing that stood out, the huge explosions needs to be slower, those are explosions the size of huge buildings.
Except for that, absolutely brilliant.
"Yahoo! You're all clear, Damocles! Now let's blow this thing and go home!"
OMG it looks awesome!!! I cannot wait for this game!
Reality is often disappointing
Tell me lies. Tell me sweet little lies....
It's sad that even at their preview event they seem to be trying to hoodwink people into believing that group content exists.
i hope this game wont flop :/
I watched some different "let's plays" of this game and I totally agree. You have this HUUUUGE space but pretty much nothing to do. You get a mission where you basically have to fly somewhere whcih can take a ridiculous amount of time just flying in a straight line and when you get there there may be a rather boring fight.
Hitchslapped think eve. It's going to be getting more content as it goes
Just my opinion though.
have you seen all the released ship concept art for elite ?
soulshot96
Did you see the Hornet HUD? It was a complete mess, you could barely see anything outside the ship.
Star Citizen is also insanely overpriced.
S S How? When it comes out it will be the SAME price as any other AAA title and right now you can buy the game for $30. Cheap much?
ffs if only accepting a mission was that intense
Almost 6 years later.
And still no legs!!
Maybe I'll wait 6 more.
Having just recently discovered OOlite, The idea of a Elite: Dangerous makes me all tingly
Between this and Robert's Star Citizens I think this genre is about to make a comeback. Bigtime.
Well, there's still a Kickstarter going, for the audio book projects from Fantastic Books - www.kickstarter.com/projects/fantasticbooks/official-elite-fiction-release-in-audio-and-print?ref=live
Wow, Mr. Braben looks like he just stepped it up a notch. Looks awesome!!!
Sounds
in
Space
:(
2:08, Avengers theme
With such knowledge of science you should surely work for NASA or something.
Why don't they let players DO A "BARREL ROLL" while they're at it?
Turn off your speakers.
It's simulated sound.
Space is not a total vacuum.
it's good to see they have kept some of the head up display from the 90's
why does it have to be a competition between start citizen and elite? why cant you all get along like the developers of each game.
Because on the internet the rule is. ''You Must Only Like one''
A Sidewinder, in the right hands, is worth a dozen Anacondas.
So, should I go for this, star citizen, or my current must have game, no mans sky. Any input to sway my decision would be greatly appreciated.
SC will release a year after ED
Francois Yalung Elite will have first person elements identical to Star Citizen, though it'll come in expansions, rather than being there on release. ED is going to release this year though, if things go as planned.
After following both games for a while, i have come to these conclusions:
Star Citizen:
+Ship Design
+Sci-fi skyboxes
+Star wars style combat
+All content on release
-At least a year until release
+limited universe so stuff is condensed for more action
Elite Dangerous:
+Sound Design
+Realistic skyboxes (still awesome though)
+more realistic combat, also feels awesome
-some content (eg. going into planets and walking out of ships) to come in expansions
+release possibly this year
+Whole galaxy simulated so greater free roam (still big battles though organised by the devs)
Alex J ED will be in beta in 30 days SC is not even in Alpha state i think 2-3 years is a better choice.
Holy crap is this looking better than I thought :O
Kudos!
I really hate these "star wars vibes". I hope Erasmus will be capable of doing something more authentic and original for the rest of the soundtrack, Elite Dangerous deserves more.
I like the laser effects on some of those strafing attacks. Very cool to see them cut into the hull like that. Got to check this game out.
Wish this actually happens :P
***** Capital Ships don't fly around the galaxy there deployed to specific operations so you'd be in port most of the time and you wouldn't be in charge of your deployment etc.
***** No the biggest ships you can control are around corvette size aka anaconda etc.
But yeah, exciting times!
tried the practice missions and this game is really hard xD
*****
The game is not for you then.
Hard?
***** You're right. And that's why ED gives the player worthwhile rewards for difficult tasks.
Looks simply AWESOME
There will be revenge! For the Empire!
AaroS Your manners are outrageous and dirty, just as everything about the Federation!
This is a game iv always dreamed of! Thanks for creating it i shall pledge next time i get paid! Keep up the good work!
We need Autocannons in Elite: Dangerous!
yes!
You can actually get Autocannons as an Engineer mod. They're literally auto-loading Cannons.
that is not what an autocannon is. Autocannons are cannons that fire in full auto. The multicannons are different because technically they are revolving cannons. Autocannons have a single barrel.
Ross Hornby Isn't Funny Thanks god, someone that understands me.
It's looking great! I can't friggin' wait :-)
Hahaha... if only.... even 5 years later this is billy bollox
Lol
Goosebumps. Pure and simple :)
Try hard PVPers when they get bored.
Usually no one publishes pitches, because they are just technical works, and usually sound too familiar with other material. They just show technical writing skills. This one is exception, and it was explained in KS update :)
