    For anyone having issues with your game crashing almost instantly after launch, try this launcher instead github.com/Zackmon/SeventhUmbral/releases/tag/20121223
    If your pc has more then like 15 cores, FFXIV will likely crash and the affinity needs to be set to like 8 or something. Using the above launcher may help fix that issue but I'm not able to test it on my pc since I only have 7 cores.

    If nothing else, private servers are important for archival sake, as the nature of video game mediums is to move forward and forget about the past. And that is a damned shame.

    would be a funny april fools joke if you boot up ffxiv, had an update, and it was just 1.0 all over again, nothing else, just 1.0 again, not even 1.23b, just 1.0

      @@abavendarlocke5455 hence why we'll never get a "classic" ffxiv, it'd just be too much work (plus they probably threw out the servers to a trash can)

    Nice tutorial. It's always great to see people sharing the steps on getting something to work. I just wish my 1.23b client didn't crash on launch lol

      I don't know much about this stuff, but if your pc has more than 16 cores, I believe the client will crash. You can try setting the affinity to something less than 15. I didn't run into that problem since my pc only has 7 cores.
      Try opening the Seventh Umbral launcher then open task manager (ctrl+shift+esc) then go to details tab, then find "Launcher.exe" then right click launcher and click "set affinity" and set it to 14 or less. If that doesn't work, you can try this launcher instead github.com/Zackmon/SeventhUmbral/releases/tag/20121223

      @@darkfuseion I also used this guide to get it all set up, all seemed smooth until it was time to launch the game. But after entering my credentials, it just briefly loads a black screen and immediately crashes. Just open for a split second or so, then instantly closed. Tried so many things, no idea what's going on. I've definitely set my affinity to less than 15 cores (I've tried every number between 1 and 15) -- I tried compatibility mode with each version of windows, running it as administrator, changing my game settings to various resolutions, fullscreen/windowers, everything on, everything off, I've tried installing the versions of DirectX that game with the 1.0 (though I don't know what specifically 1.23b used) and one of those actually did install a different version of .net than I had, which had me hopeful... then no difference.
      I've tried turning off HDR on my system, tried turning my refresh rate to 60hz in case it didn't play nice with high refresh rate, rebooted several times, I'm so stumped. I just wanna get back in there and explore for a bit but I can't for the life of me figure out what the hell's going on.
      The only "clue" I might have is that when the base 1.0 game is installed (prior to updating to 1.23b) and if I try to open ffxivboot.exe at that point, it'll actually open properly and display a network error using the in-game blue UI and mouse cursor and everything. After updating to 1.23b, ffxivboot.exe will only open to a black screen and crash, same as through the launcher, I even tried to install from a different source file entirely, but the same issue occurred.
      The only possibilities I can think of are:
      - I'm missing some dependency the game needs that isn't included with the 1.23b files, like maybe a real specific version of .net or something
      - Something about the update is going wrong (though I found a source of the game pre-updated to 1.23b and it has the same issue...)
      -There's some sort of hardware issue that doesn't exist in 1.0 but does in 1.23b? But I'd have no idea how to even begin to figure this out.
      Just knowing what happens if someone else opens ffxivboot.exe (not inside the launcher) would be a good starting place, since then I could write off if I'm chasing shadows. If it opens and closes without displaying an error message like 1.0 does, then I know it's very likely related. If it just opens to a black window and closes for everyone, then I'm barking up the wrong tree.
      I'd appreciate any help. I know this ain't your project or anything but it's hard to get a hold of anyone about this to hash out ideas.

      Oh my GOD I finally got it! Affinity wasn't working worth a crap. When I manually disabled cores in my BIOS, however, it booted right up! Slightly inconvenient, to say the least. But I'll take it!

      Just replying to let you know I saw your message and I'll see if I can't help you figure out something to try. Also, you might try commenting on this video (he's in the project discord and much smarter than me. I'm in the discord too) since he seems to watch comments pretty closely and seems to respond often. But I'll flip through the discord and see if I can't find an answer. Are you able make it to the character creation screen or does the window just crash and close? And you are using the Seventh Umbral launcher and not the FF14 default icon or whatever it is? Pretty sure you tried both.
      Almost forgot the video link th-cam.com/video/_y5K0w3ksVc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-mWq0xX1JhUbPHP0

      I saw in the discord where someone was having the same issue, and they set their cores to 8, and the game finally stopped crashing. I said 15 before, but I have seen different answers from different people. Mine only has 7 cores, so maybe try 7-8 cores and see what happens. They mentioned needing directx9, too, but the client install should take care of that but might try that after the cores. Edit: just noticed you said you tried all cores and mentioned the game crashed pretty much instantly. OK I'll continue digging. Edit again: I tried opening ffxivboot without the launcher and not connected to server, version 1.23b and it gives me the blue network error, so that works for me. Again, I'm still poking around. If for some reason you wanna try another client, you can find it on archive.org.

    Thanks DF. I just finished setting up my FFXI server when I thought: Let's Google if there's a way to install a FFXIV server and now I need to try this! But I'm curious of what works and what doesn't... Is quests, mission, jobs etc. all working? Ik it's the 1st version but I suppose at least some stuff is actually functioning, right?

    • @darkfuseion
      @darkfuseion  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      From my experience with it, not much works. I never played retail to even know where quests would be but from what it appears like in the server/scripts files, it doesn't seem like any quests work except maybe the starting quests but I think those have been deactivated for some reason. There are also no enemies on the map, so there's not much to do except explore a dead world. If you want to look into the current version of FFXIV, you can try Sapphire, but you will probably need an active subscription to the game to get the updates and from what I can tell it's not very easy to setup, but here's Sapphire if you're interested. sapphire.xiv.dev/
      Also, if you find a way to do all of that without a subscription, let me know. I'd for sure be interested in an ARR/Heavensward local server without a subscription.

    you think its possible to play with friends? i want to do this because my friend who has played since 1.0 is still showing me old stuff while im a person who started in Endwalker. and doing a server for 1.0 will be the best surprise i can bring to them and for myself to feel the experience

    • @darkfuseion
      @darkfuseion  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm only guessing here, but I bet it's possible to play with friends if you build a server, but I wouldn't know how to do it. Also, there isn't much that works on the server. Combat doesn't really work yet, and there are no enemies, and I doubt any missions work either. Setting your public ip address into the server may allow your friends to join, but I wouldn't know how to test it.

    the only weird thing about it is that the place you go to make a new account keeps saying "error while connecting to the database". idk why this says that but I can't go to the discord to ask so ig i'm shit outta luck?

    • @darkfuseion
      @darkfuseion  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can't be sure what's actually happening, but do you have Wamp up and running and all 3 of your servers open? If Wamp is shut down, you can't connect to your database. The other thing you might double check is where you put the "WWW" stuff you copied over to the Wamap install directory. I mess up there quite often. If you don't copy the files over to the right folder in the Wamp install directory, you probably won't be able to make an account. I'm just making guesses, though, but something else you might check is if you have some other form of mysql service using your port 3306 (guessing that is the default port), maybe? Are you able to open your database in Heidisql? Again, I'm just guessing, but if you can't connect to that, maybe another mysql service is using that port. For example, if you had another private server (FF11) on the same pc, you may already have something installed using that mysql port.

      @@darkfuseion I think i just forgot the change the port on my My.ini cause I changed it to 3307. It's just telling me that mysql does not equal so I just gotta figure out what that means now
