What do you think of the Engwe M20? What other budget Moped Style Ebikes should we test?

I honestly expect better performances on hill test with a 750w geared hub
Nice review!!! Is there an off-road mode like the Revv1?
Good job .. Thorough review!👍
Thanks! 👍
Excellent review! 2 questions on the brake upgrade. Does the brake light still work after the upgrade, and do I need the 2 or 3 pin connector?
I've got over 1000 miles on mine now and I have to say I'm quite happy with it. I do have to fiddle with the brakes more than I'd like (looiking to upgrade those over the winter) but overall it's been rock solid and a total blast to ride. I would say the minimum range for this bike is probably about 30 miles. This is based on a 22 mile ride going up and down a lot of hills at full throttle all the way with a 235 lb rider, and having 2 bars of battery left at the end. Obviously you can get more out of it if you are lighter, go slower, pedal more, have flatter terrain, or any combination of the above but 30 miles should be achievable under any circumstances with the dual battery config.
As for their support, I did have a minor issue when I first got the bike, the bottom half of the kickstand fell off while riding and I was lost. They did replace it, but it took a bit of back and forth and it took about a month to come in from China once they finally shipped it, but I did get it. I also reached out to them with a question on the brake pads which they responded to fairly promptly. Overall I'd say the support is certainly not A+, but it's also not bad for a Chinese budget brand. I've had other companies that don't even acknowledge your existance once they have your money, so like I said, overall not too bad.
Let me check into the brakes later this week, and I will let you know what you need. Don't want to tell you the wrong thing.
And thank you for sharing your experience. That is super helpful to us and more importantly other potential riders.
@@EbikeEscape Awesome, thanks! No rush on the brakes, like I said its a winter upgrade.
So it looks like if you buy the brakes from Amazon, you also need to purchase an adapter for the brake sensor wires and wire in your own adapters.... You can purchase the brakes straight off of AliExpress without needing to do any custom wiring, but the only ones I could find are a brand I have not heard of.
Unlike most ebikes, Engwe used brake levers without plugs up near the handlebars. So you have to unplug them from the controller (under the rear seat) or use the existing wiring and splice in your own Julet connectors that match whichever brakes you purchase. Here are links to all of the parts for this job (affiliate links):
Zoom Brakes: amzn.to/469GNSb
Julet Connectors (2 pin): amzn.to/45V4CNr
And if you are willing to risk it, The off-brand brakes from AliExpress: www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804218003796.html
@@EbikeEscape Wow thanks, that's a huge help. A guy on another channel used those Ali Express brakes with this bike and said they worked great, so for $35 I might give that a shot. Thanks for the help, much appreciated!
Engwe sells hydraulic brakes in their website which includes the connectors for stopping the motor
Do you think a 5’2 person would be able to sit and touch the ground?
Yes engwe aftermarket sales team is great any part you need they will sell to you if not covered in warranty They give you there paypal. You then send the price of the part that is goving. They will then ship it to you. This is a good company and i have this bike i lobe it

I see the draw of mopeds but prefer the adjustability of a bicycle for pedaling and that so many saddle options are available. I'd never be able to do the thirty-six miles that I recently did on my Lectric 3.0 with the YLG saddle at PAS 2. I think anyone buying a moped should be mechanically competent to keep up with adjustments including the mechanical brakes. I changed to the hydraulic on my spare 3.0 before doing my personal 3.0. They work great but guess what? I'm not changing my brakes as I now have replacement pads from my spare bike. When those pads wear down, then I'll install the hydraulic kit on mine. Adjusting for wear isn't that big of a deal and the improvement in braking isn't all that much. Why a spare 3.0? I bought it for my wife, who is scared of it. So, I bought her the Lectric XP Trike. Nice, but has some quality issues.
There is no excuse for mechanical disc brakes.
I would buy it just for the frame... Then upgrade it to a true road worthy moped
What app is on your phone?
It is just the "Speedometer" App on iOS.
@@EbikeEscape Thank you, i ll try to find a similar for android.
This bike is a perfect example of why Japanese eBikes are going to take over, despite being more expensive: they take the time to REFINE their products before releasing them.
Holes in headlight housings, suspension that only works for heavy people, knobby-only tires on a bike that will spend most of its time on the street…
All these things stink of a company that doesn’t really care about putting out a quality product.
Look at the Honda PCX Electric: (not available in the USA) everything’s done right.
Impossible to reach by phone. They call 24 hours after you email them. They address your concerns kind of. They are not knowledgeable on their own products. I tried upgrading my order from the m20 to m20 2.0 and it was like pulling teeth. I ended up staying with m20 because it was a multi step email process that would take 72 hours because of how they do business. I am still waiting on my bike I ordered 10 days ago. I already received my bike cover I ordered from lectric 2 days after ordering the m20. I just checked the bike hasn’t been shipped but says it is being processed for shipping.

EUY S-4 is the same price and better equipped ….. at least I think
Stay tuned in the coming weeks ;)
Every review is the same. How about some actual specs on the components. What’s the rear dropout width? Does it have sealed bearing headset? Crank arm length?? Everyone gets these for free and just reads the spec sheet which doesn’t mean crap.
This is not a good value at all guys, (not anymore, for 1400.00 your better off with the Foldable Wildeway with 750 Watts and a 35 AMP UL safer Battery
Yuck, Thats a 750w motor w/a 1000w peak quite misleading. Delayed throttle w/low speed. A Ridstar q20 is the better option w/a real 1000w motor, 31mph and hydraulic brakes. If you want two batteries a Yolin Ebike is the same price and way better.
Engwe customer service is the worst I've ever experienced. They refuse to answer or return calls and they take at least 24 hours to respond to EACH email. If they email you back, and you respond immediately, they still won't respond back for at least 24 hours. Plus they barely speak English and understand even less. But they will eventually rectify issues. Most irritating support ever.
Thank you for sharing your experience. This is the one thing that we want to make sure people consider when purchasing from brands like Engwe. Glad they got you all fixed up in the end though.
