Whenever I see Whale's interacting with boats or people they always try to be as gentle as possible and never get too close, it's really interesting.

I think they mistake boats amd the people on it as another whale species and their babies...in whale world there are only ocean specimen, but because they are social animals in general, they come looking...I would love to know what goes through their minds when they keep watxhing people on boats...it's still beautiful how they behave yes😍

  • @williamlarson4439

Maybe we could install permanent back-scratching/Barnacle removing floating platform-stations where whales could come for a scratch either by rubbing against the thing or humans with big bristly brushes on hand. This could go a long way into establishing a friendly relationship with a creature who has every reason to fear us and also a means to study interaction and communication with them. Amazingly enough, they sure seem to enjoy human attention and seek it out but I think they are trying to get us to help them but we don't quite get it..

I’ve been trying to think of a way to tell people something like that! We need to design a tool that will remove the barnacles while scratching them. As often as the same whales come to some of the boats that are out there everyday on these tours, I think it would be awesome to be able to do something for them in return; like the sea turtles!

    • @causticchameleon7861

I was thinking some hard plastic blade on the underside of the boats that might help scratch off the barnacles but not cause any problems steering the boat.

Then as I put the interruption behind me to enjoy what remains of this incredible encounter with this beautiful, larger than life creature, I hear, "You stink.". I couldn't believe my ears. Nobody else is talking loudly (or at all, really), an experience such as this calls for reverence and appreciation. Not because that's "the rules", but because it's a rare privilege to be there with this magnificent, gentle, giant far away from the hassles, noise and litter that acompany our daily lives. We all make mistakes, but MAAAN...if I had been on the boat with her, I would be steaming mad at her for spoiling the magic of the moment. I hope to one day be so privileged.

About thirty five years ago some guys sailed a leather hulled Curragh all the way across the Atlantic, to substantiate the St Brendan Voyage myth. They had a lot of very close attention from whales which they came to understand was due to their craft being flexible, like a whale, and like a rubber hulled dinghy...

If you ask the Japanese they say it is for “research”!? There is no need for any research to cull thousands of whales annually. Also, do they have any new findings to present? Maybe whalers need to actually read a few other studies related to whales and their intellect and emotional intelligence.
I also don’t support the idea of it’s “tradition”. Well, there are a lot of traditions that aren’t practiced anymore as we grow to understand our world. People no longer burn witches or believe the sun revolves around the Earth. Ugh! I just get so mad and upset that these beings are being hunted and brutally slaughtered. I wish people would understand that just because we are the top of the food chain doesn’t equal killing everything. Ecotourism is proving to be waaay more profitable.
As far as eating the meat, whalers harvest a few choice parts and most of the remaining whale is ground into animal feed. Additionally, it has been found that the meat is no longer safe to eat in any quantity, due to pcbs and other pollution.
      End Rant.
Sorry I had to let it out!!😬

Absolutely amazing! Who doesn't a) love a good back scratch and b) love to have people say "oooo, ahhhh, woooow, you're so beautiful 😃😍" when you appear in front of them? 😉 I hope the whales enjoyed the encounter as much as we're all enjoying it!

A humpback surfaced right behind me on a tour boat and blew ! I got covered in fishy smelling whale snot ! Except for that it was a memorable experience to look a whale in the eye from 8 ft away.

Get a stainless steel pool scrub brush on a 12 foot pole and give that beast a back scratch. Very cool footage.

Whales are very smarter & seems aware that these boats & people in it are not a threat to them, since they can easily capsize those rubber boats with a big splash or hitting them head on! Beautiful animals of God. :)

I think many of the whale encounters are efforts by the whales to get those damn barnacles of their bodies. You know, "Oh look, something I can scratch my back on" or "Oh look, creatures with fingers and nails. Perfect!" Unfortunately, it seems most of the time, we humans don't quite get the message.

If a whale farted only a few feet away you would have been gasping for air and vomiting

Human watching seems to be becoming a trend among whales. I guess they have to do their own risk assessment and learn how to read people because some of them are mad. Just like from time to time a human can come across a mad dog.

Gente, q bicho lindo ! E grandão !
