    This has been PERFECT for us. Thank you! We just finished our log cabin last summer and are turning our attention to how to insulate/skirt it to survive Maine winters. Your info was incredibly helpful and will make this a much easier job.

      I think the Maine winters are very similar to Montana winters so good luck and stay warm ! Send me a picture when you're done !

    Calls a trailer house a "trailer house"! Awesome. +1

    you should have pour a small concrete footer all around the bottom of the trailer to fasten your bottom treated 2x4 to. wood to ground will rot, sooner or later.

    Where can we find a heater like the one in the video. I looked it up and don’t see anything that is hard wired with a thermostat.

    She's good! A bit redundant but definitely knowledgeable. Mind you I don't know anything about this. Where do you buy that thick foam insulation?

    I luv her :D Can you use the ridgid foam in the under the floor instead of the fluffy stuff?

    • @suzyhomesteaderoftherockie2638
      @suzyhomesteaderoftherockie2638  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes--it works great for exterior purposes ..I like it because it doesn't provide a home for critters !

      I just recently bought a 1/4 acre lot with a old 1979 mobile home on it next to a lake for $5,000. I'll be closing on the sell of my house in the next month and will be moving there full time. So it needs alot of work and all the fluffy stuff needs to be pulled out. I like the idea of not having to itch for days when replacing it lol. So I guess I just fill the whole space between the floor joists with a stack of that foam?

      the Blue board insulation comes in different R Values and the only disadvantage to it is that if your area is not perfectly square you will need to grab some gap filler to get any missed spots.....good luck with your project..how exciting ! And thank you for the SEO info...I will look it up for sure ! Yes ,I have a FB page as well as a few other social media spots...Love the name of your channel...sounds like you have a sense of humor !

    Nice project but how would you deal with possible termite problems?

    • @suzyhomesteaderoftherockie2638
      @suzyhomesteaderoftherockie2638  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I get the question alot...hard for me to answer since Termites are not really a problem in this part of the rockies....its rodents here that do the damage in the insulation ... but you may want to use treated lumber on all your framing and or use a bug spray around the base and in your crawl space yearly....good luck !

      This area that I am in does not seem to have a problem with termites - Carpenter Ants maybe , but haven't seen that problem here yet perhaps because it is actually very dry out here

    Nice video presentation. The Rockies calls for cinder blocks? :)

    • @suzyhomesteaderoftherockie2638
      @suzyhomesteaderoftherockie2638  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      there are a lot of variables as to what kind of base is used for mobile homes but the ground in this part of the Rockies is a very hard clay base so cinder blocks work great since the ground does not shift much after your pad is settled...the key is to give your new pad time to settle or don't touch the ground at all so there is minimal movement after the building is set therefore less maintenance on the skirting -but there is always some degree of movement unless you have a full foundation and or monolithic concrete pad.

    • @JADunn
      @JADunn 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, blocks would be ideal for that terrain. It's also important to dig deep enough into the ground, (I have found) to wrap the water lines with heat tape.. the deeper the better. There is nothing more frustrating with a trailer given all the headaches with it than having frozen water lines and tinkering with it in the middle of winter. A crawl space is a definite.

  • @hollygiannelli
    @hollygiannelli 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good idea in theory, but doesn’t the frost pick up on it? What do you do then?

    • @suzyhomesteaderoftherockie2638
      @suzyhomesteaderoftherockie2638  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your bottom boards for framing need to be treated lumber but the rest of the materials should keep enough heat under there that you will not see frost on the exterior either....I have never seen frost on any skirting in Montana but maybe the case in a wetter state.

    sideways? weird.
    i didn't see you fasten the framing at all.. is it just nailed into the top and floating on the bottom?

    • @suzyhomesteaderoftherockie2638
      @suzyhomesteaderoftherockie2638  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      framing is screwed into the floor joist board on top and bottom of framing is dug into ground enough to stabilize it or you can use rebar stakes into bottom frame board and into ground...sideways on metal panels gives you more materials instead of cuttting them as much but it is a preference of how you want it to look...and if your metal is sideways make sure the ribbing lines up all the way around the building so it looks better-good luck

    I have no room all around trailer btw. how to make it sturdy without just drilling wholes or ankering it in the ground? I love how most of all video for underpinning, the land is flat and pretty never the normal like angled or higher then your head off the ground. lol so with those types, how to put a frame under it how to cut at angles from the ground and bottom of the trailer and all that. I mean their is no videos on TH-cam that shows all that or at lest explain it good enough to follow them while you DIY.
