The most useful advice in the video: make sure the foundation's properly level, square, structural and strength appropriate. The builder and I have completely different ideas on joist, wall, and roof truss construction for best strength.. but certainly in this case.. should be adequate. Also, building in this manner takes longer than prefabbing your floors, walls (he did sort of do prefab on the trusses), and simply putting modular sections together.. THEN putting up your "decorative" boards and touches. Thanks for the video!

I think your skipping the "adding huge pieces of pre-set left over Concrete or grout and with such a large area that adherence could never be anywhere near occurring within the wet Concrete" portion. I don't even think "Cold Joint" would be the right term as a Cold Joint would be so, so much better as even a Cold Joint doesn't have a huge pocketed space that each additional rock added would basically make due to the Cold Joints on both sides between each adhering side making a pocked cold joint of sorts. lol

Thanks for posting, fun project and I liked how it all came together appearance wise, structurally, not so confident....some thoughts. I live in the NE / USA, and that stove is overkill, if you ever get that fired up your gonna bake yourself extra crispy and set your cabin on fire with the first marshmallow unless you add some insulation around that stove pipe and the floor. A stove the size of an ammo can would be plenty big enough and you would use a lot less wood. Another suggestion would be to add a ceiling fan and some screens to your windows to get some air flow. A composting toilet, and water source. I could live in something that size but I don't think its as sound as it looks.

Looking good and neat is one thing. Actually working or being reliably strong is something else. Cutting floor framing members is not a good thing to do. Also, roof trusses are not structural sound. The shed won’t hold much weight anyway. What you see here should work ok for a shed; don’t plan on living in a structure like this.

Thanks for sharing these essential building techniques. They pack a punch. You can slow the video down when you need to, which makes it a good learning tool. I liked the sofa/bed that you built and the stove installation. Everything was wonderful. I think the smallest small home should be 16 feet wide by 30 feet long with no subdivision. The kitchen and bathroom can be placed elsewhere and can be connected to the main cabin later or left separately. This would ensure a high quality of life and living whatever your perceived economic status is.

@Rob Hamilton It's because we have the difficult job of tearing structures down that people place such value on. We literally stretch to try and leave some standing so it won't shock people. You are seeing wars and bombings worldwide because this many times is what the issues are. The standard set approx. 50 years ago shall not stand. We the inheritors are coming into possession of this land as agreed upon. You can't hear that so it won't be good for you.

Except for the wood stove it's a very nice shed/playhouse. Unless those are double wall vent pipes (it doesn't look like they are) that stove will burn down the shed almost as soon as it's lit. One thin I would have done differently is to give the entire exterior the sho-sugi ban treatment. If you do that properly, including the cut ends, you don't NEED to use any sort of varnish.

Using screws to build any kind of wood structure is Ill advised. Screws have strength and toughness in tension but no toughness against shear stresses. You can bend a nail back and forth 100 times before it fatigues and breaks. Nails are designed that way so that they can absorb the stresses of wood expansion and shrinkage as well as the forces of wind etc. Screws are not made for these kind of loads. I see people building things with screws where they shouldn’t be a lot.

Not a single header was installed. Those windows are going to shatter with any amount of wind or weight on the roof. No 16" on center studs either.

@@Atilla.Altinok I used to build houses for a living. Even sheds and out-buildings have to be to code in the US if you don't want it to be condemned by the local government, and it's stricter around the world. This is _not_ up to anyone's code.
Headers above doors and windows distribute the load of the roof evenly below the opening. When it's not there, all the weight of any floors above and the roof are bearing on that opening. In this case, the window frame/glass. A bird hitting the window will cause it to shatter, which even single pane windows can withstand _IF_ they're properly installed. This video has none of those protections.
Wind can also cause a lot of damage, which is why all timber-built buildings are required to use hurricane clips/strips. Chances are, most people in the world live where the wind can blow strong enough to damage the roof without the proper hardware holding it down. Hurricanes, tornados, and just thunderstorms are such wind events.
I'm also not too certain about his choice of foundation. In some locations, packed earth with gravel is sufficient, but in places with more sand than clay, pylons are needed. Other locations require a certain depth of foundation made of gravel and concrete. In any event, hardware to tie the foundation to the structure is always required.
This guy built a dangerous structure. Sure, the design and idea behind it is neat. I'm not detracting from that, but the video doesn't show good practices for the actual construction.
If you decide to build something similar, at least look up the building codes in your area, but err on the side of caution and over-engineer the Hell out of it. I'd rather be too safe when constructing than have any risk of the building falling on, and killing someone.

If you wanna be successful, you must take responsibility for your emotions, not place the blame on others. In addition to making you feel more guilty about your faults, pointing the finger at others will only serve to increase your sense of personal accountability. There's always a risk in every investment, yet people still invest and succeed. You must look outward if you wanna be successful in life...

This "shed" won't last long and certainly won't be usable for living purposes. There are many mistakes, the biggest among them: a foundational base so bad, you could as well have built it on the sand itself. You will have a gazillion problems with the wooden structure settling. I've never seen someone use planks that are so narrow. A seam every 5 cm or so. On a rainy day with lots of wind the water will be coming through your walls like through a strainer. In the first year, because of wood settling, you'll see many seams opening up. It looks to me you use a lot of recycled material. I understand and respect that, but even with recycled material it will still have cost you a reasonable amount of money. You'll regret having spent that in a couple of years.
