French facts (and myths) you will not believe!

- Th'ere are things about France I bet you don't know.
The world of French trivia is both quirky and fascinating. There are some seriously weird laws, and many more surprising inventions.
Ever heard of a town where UFOs are banned from flying overhead? Or a place where it's illegal to die without a reserved spot in the local cemetery?
Did you know that denim, the beloved fabric of jeans, hails from a town called Nîmes in France? Or that the iconic song "My Way" by Frank Sinatra was originally a French tune? Or that the French beat the Wright brothers into the air?
And don't forget where the timeless fairy tales like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty come from!
Settle in for a tour of French trivia that -- I hope -- is as entertaining as it is educational.

(I shot most of it. Some extra shots came from the public domain, Pexels, Creative Commons (CC0) or were created through AI, or in the case of the book and LP covers they there in a fair use capacity to briefly discuss the works talked about.)
No extraterrestrials were harmed or insulted in the making of this video.
This was funny...and "educational. ' I actually knew about Clem from some history class but the rest was newly learned. Thank you. I can now sleep tonight. Meanwhile...back to mowing grass and cleaning the yard. Au revoir
I'm sure if we look hard enough there will be a piece of fascinating trivia about lawn mowers....
@amusingaida well...I have over an acre to cut so I have a riding lawn mower...maybe that's trivial? Time to enjoy the evening.. 🍷
@@carolmartin4413 that's a big task. Still, must be nice having a garden
I love "useless" trivia, can't wait to misremember these when I recall them to people! Great video by the way!
Thanks - here's hoping one or two get pulled out in a dinnertime conversation
Delightful! Where have you gone? Please come back with new content. Merci!
A little summertime break for this Parisienne... I'll be back, I promise
A fun list! Highly recommend the movie CloClo about Claude Francois...heartbreaking but lovely
One of my favorite singers (but I haven't seen that film yet)
Ahhhh, this is amazing!
Thanks!

Muchas gracias Dolores, estoy contenta que las disfrutes
Fascinating!! I'm a huge trivia nerd. Enjoyed this -- thanks for a fun video!
I'm glad it hit the target!
Really interesting topic and lovely montage.
Good vibes 👌
Many thanks for taking the time to to comment, and to make it a lovely one
Very informative and fun 😂
Thanks - I did my best. Did you learn any new trivia?
very cool!
Thanks!
Hi Aida, trust you are OK? Looking forward to your next video. Soon!
Cheers Chris
Still here, just ultra busy these days (and a lot of travel away from Paris for vacation because, well, that's Europe in summer). New videos when I can!
Zut alors! I was going to visit ChateauNeuf du Pape but I’m an alien 😂!!!
I really don't subscribe to the US habit of describing fellow humans as 'aliens'. We don't burst out of stomachs or anything....
How fabby..thank you..
Merci beaucoup !
Me watching this before revising for my French exam to get motivation😅
No more procrastination! (Unless the French exam is on trivia....)
@@amusingaida haha true😅😅 It’s a habit of mine
More vids please...
I will, once I'm back in Paris. Currently on a hiatus abroad. But la rentrée will bring me back....
@@amusingaida Enjoy your hiatus and I'm sure everyone looks forward to another charming vid from you, take care
very cute. but 1.68 meters IS short.
In the 18th century? Not at all! If you're talking about a further 200 years of good diet, medical care and healthy work, it sounds like it. But Napoléon today would be 12cm taller, like everyone else
Hi Aida, saw the explosion in Paris on the news hope you are ok.
Yeah, frightening stuff, but on the other side of the Seine from me
@@amusingaida C'est bon, je suis content que tu ailles bien
Jeez, there's always something happening in Paris...
@@billbollins indeed... the city of light (and firelight)
@@amusingaida and still it goes on...hope you are safe
How do the aliens get informed about this law? :)
Only the oenophile aliens know that one
@@amusingaida Well done video. I thought the May Day and denim trivia items were interesting. So does France have a blue jean or pant manufacturing plant from this invention?
@@lancecasey683 It used to... back in the 17th century when denim was made (blue dye was used because indigo only stuck to the other cotton threads)...
comme autres inventions ; le micro-processeur, le language informatique d'internet que les américains ont repris, la 1ère réfrigération...le presse purée, la baguette et bon nombre de tire-bouchons !
Oui ! Et oui, oui, oui
