    Glad to see someone taking pride in his work. I've seen some real award winning installation out there. I wish all contractors would take care of the little details.

    At 9:40 what if I wanted to install a pressure regulator valve or pressure reduction valve. Where would it go? Between backflow and MV?

      That’s a great way to install a double check. Thanks for sharing.

    I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, that is a tidy job. I’ve started doing the double box now. Just need to find a market for all these spare lids!

    • @AmericanIrrigator
      @AmericanIrrigator  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I here you there. I ordered a palette of boxes without lids and used all the lids I had taken off. But they will not order those for me again and now it ends up not being cheaper to order the boxes without lids. I still keep them and use them on repairs where a lid is broke.

    Curious ... is there a reason why all of the valves cannot be in 1 box?

    I always use pipe thread sealant and teflon tape like my granddaddy taught me. What’s your take on this technique?

    • @AmericanIrrigator
      @AmericanIrrigator  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes great technique. I have seen a lot of guys doing that. I have tried it a few times and end up back to just using teflon only. Just personal preference but I think the way you do it is more widely done.

    If you have a controller based irrigation system with a dozen or more valves, what is the purpose of the Master Valve and how would it be wired in the controller box like a Hunter XC 16??

    Can the double check be installed in all cities in Texas? I currently have the Zurn Wilkins RPV installed above ground. Have had nothing but trouble with this set up. Your double check layout is so much cleaner and I want to change mine out. Any reason why I can’t?

  • @ShyRage1

    Dumb question, but does it matter what height these double check valves are installed?

    • @AmericanIrrigator
      @AmericanIrrigator  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is not a set rule on double checks, but if you live in a place that freezes a lot, you want to make sure it is below your frost line if you install it below grade. RPZ ‘s need to be installed 12” above grade and PVB’s are to be install 12” above the highest output or head.

    Is there anything you to do to test it before turning on water?

    • @AmericanIrrigator
      @AmericanIrrigator  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      All backflow devices must be tested by a licensed backflow tester upon installation and before you use your system. When I install a backflow I do go ahead and turn the water on and open up the test cocks to allow the air to escape as it fills with water and pressures up. I hope this helps answer your question

      @@AmericanIrrigator they say anti siphon valves are not testable, are there any ways to know if they are not working and actually allowing contamination?

    I'm in Northern Idaho, 4-season climate. I don't want to install a standard, outdoor (gravity) backflow preventer above ground. My water main comes up into an indoor water heater closet. I'm considering installing a double-check backflow preventer inside the water heater closet, which has a tile floor and drain, but is not a waterproof wet deck. I'd run the irrigation main back down under the crawl space, punch out through the concrete foundation, and then drop the 1" supply line into a valve manifold. Any concerns with putting a backflow preventer inside the house like that? I know the test cocks will spray, but I should be able to mitigate that by attaching tubes down to the drain. Thx.

    I purchased a zurn one inch 350 DCV. I have read and been told that it must be installed above ground. I see you install yours below grade. Can you help with the right answer

      If you live in Texas, it should be installed below grade to keep from freezing. Not by law, but recommended.

  • @chadhardy6058

    doesnt that have to be installed 12 inches above the sprinkler heads?

    • @rastapastrychief
      @rastapastrychief ปีที่แล้ว

      No, only PVB and AVB need to be 12” above highest head

    I am currently getting 120 psi pressure from a water spigot that is connected to my irrigation line. Does this sound like my Febco 850 has failed? My water into the house has a separate PRV and that is at 70 psi currently. Any help would be appreciated!

    • @b01brdcst
      @b01brdcst ปีที่แล้ว

      Install a pressure regulator on your irrigation side. You have pressure loss thru the backflow device, but these don't regulate pressure. Make sure the pressure on your system never exceeds 75 PSI, which is the higher allowed on most of the heads. This should have been done during installation, but we all know that is not always done.

    Ive got a question. Im also in TX BTW. Im troubleshooting pulsating pressure issue in my irrigation system. There is a doublecheck after the city meter and in line pressure regulator and then the double check and then the Master valve. I have 8 zones and zones 3-8 pulsate after running for 10 seconds. the Sprinkler risers jump up and down.... zones 1 and 2 do not pulsate. Its all Hunter PGV valves. I ruled out electric as and thr master valve as IVe replaced the Bonnet of the master and also have run the zones that are affected manually with out electric. House pressure does not pulsate only the irrigation system. What do you think?

    I thought the backflow preventer had to be above the sprinkler heads.
