Capbreton c'est un endroit pour les vrais navigateurs, c'était mon spot favori pour la planche à voile, sans me vanter, j'étais l'un des premiers en Lorraine à pratiquer la planche, revenons à Capbreton ou je passais beaucoup de temps sur l'eau, et les jour de vent de terre, je passais beaucoup de temps à ramener des gros novices qui n'arrivaient plus à rentrer !! Mon tarif était "une bibine" ! Moi j'avais ma bonne "Windsurfer" et les Allemands avaient des "Mistral" bien meilleures ! Et je faisais du surf avec ma planche vers la plage aux Bunkers, c'était le bon temps !

It wasn't intentional to take it sideways -- their motor stalled. But it likely stalled because it got submerged -- because that boat is not big enough nor has enough power to take on that kind of breakwater.
@@chad1755 I don't know about that. It's possible they had some sort of malfunction, but the motor should be able to handle brief submersion just fine - that's what the cowl is for. Looking at it does make you wonder why they didn't power up a bit - their 15hp or 40hp should have more power, but I never see a full stall. Even right before that wave hit that threw the guy overboard you can see he has power and is trying to turn the boat into the wave. At that point he didn't have time to fully turn and he should have known to run with the wave instead, but it looks like he was a bit discombobulated after he lost hist balance the first time. Perhaps a bottle of red wine was involved, but either way, it looks like poor judgement. And after he went overboard, none of the crew jumped to slow the motor down, potentially running over their captain

, sur un passage particulièrement.....En T-shirt, pas de gilet de sauvetage au cas où (c'est pas la honte d'en porter un dans ces moments délicats) un bon surpoids pour surnager si on tombe à l'eau, un moteur un peu insuffisant et qui tombe en rade, bref que du bon pour une intervention des secours, voire pire hélas....mais les gars du cru ils ont des c... en bois, donc même pas peur pour ramener le maquereau du barbecue de midi. Bravo et c'est devenu quoi la baignade ? Désolant (et le gosse aussi ça fait peur)

So what's going on with the boat that surfed up onto the beach, starting at 3:44 is that he's trying to turn his boat to go over the wave while he's already surfing down that wave. A boat like that needs thrust to turn and a huge amount of thrust to force the bow to turn onto an uphill. But the breaking wave is rushing stern to bow so it's keeping him pointed at the beach. You wonder why he didn't keep his boat pointed at the inlet, but he probably couldn't because the prop was out of the water. Perhaps they would have been OK if they had depowered, allowing the wave to pass under the boat.

wwindsunrain i was wondering also, but what i think he was doing was trying to turn to his port to avoid the rocks and point from which the scene was being videoed. the wave must have grabbed the boat and surfed him involuntarily towards the rocks. how he would get into that mess in the first place i don’t know. he missed wrecking his boat on the rocks by about a metre.
Not sure, but they deserved a better outcome after surfing such a beautiful line.
