Check out A Billion Suns for another space fleet game.

Love that game! Cool rules, thanks for that quick review. Prefering the not-too-complicated rulesets here. 😅

Yeah I like to play all sorts of games so simpler rulesets are a must for me!

Thank you for the review - I playtested the free rules and I felt pretty underwhelmed, but I have a feeling it was because the points value was too low - what is the ideal range for this game for a beginner? Would you recommend for/against certain configurations?

I'm not super experienced with the game but honestly I'd say just pick two of the pre-made factions that you like the style of from the factions book and have at it with 400 or so points each! The game is simle enough that you're not likely to become bogged down or overwhelmed with the various special rules and having different fleets/playstyles will make the game more enjoyable.

I am eyeing WFTL besides Grimdark Future (currently translating GF stuff, but WFTL is next on the list). And want to try it out as well!

Nice, will you be covering the updated Warfleets once its out of beta? It has all the Grimdark Future factions.

@@TheTabletopGamer Beta is good. Factions have been changed to match those available in the other Grimdark rules.

I played a few games of OPR's 40k analogue and while it is simple and pretty fun. It's not a bad system by any means; if you want to get in a 30-60min 40k game and don't want to worry about multiple layers of overlapping special rules or stratagems, OPR is perfect. My only main complaint is that the "Quality" stat is used for both melee and shooting, and units that aren't the same skill at both suffer because the system goes with the worse of the two. For instance, Sisters of Battle are 4+ in both melee and shooting, which IMHO does not adequately represent the average Sister. Overall I'd say it's a fun and pretty well thought out system that offers a fast and streamlined way to use your miniatures.
