  • Lotus Root Stirfry from Our Aussie Kitchen Style - Delicious and Nutritious.
    Lotus root is a vegetable that comes from the rootstalk of the sacred Indian lotus flower.
    Lotus root contains several nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and fibre, which provide numerous health benefits. It may help reduce weight, acid reflux or indigestion, immunity, pile control, and inflammation healing. It may also help improving blood circulation and heart health.
    Ingredients:
    For Lotus Root Stir-Fry:
    A few tablespoons of sesame oil
    1 medium section lotus root, about 250g
    1 tablespoon minced garlic
    1/2 teaspoons minced ginger
    1 teaspoons chilli flakes
    1 teaspoons fennel seeds
    1/2 teaspoons mustard seeds
    1 small onion sliced
    1 green chilli chopped
    1 tablespoons sesame oil
    1 teaspoons soy sauce
    1/2 teaspoons salt
    Directions:
    Step 1:
    Organise all ingredients and cooking wok.
    Step 2:
    Peel the lotus root, rinse under cold water, and slice into thin rounds. Rinse again, then set in a bowl with cold water to prevent discoloration.
    Step 3:
    Add the sesame oil into the wok and heat at medium.
    Then add the sliced lotus root and temper them until light brown.
    Step 4:
    Now add the OinionsmallKipp and chillies and temper for 2 minutes.
    Step 5:
    Add the fennel, mustard seeds and chilli flakes. Mix well and temper for 3 minutes.
    Step 6:
    Now add the soy sauce and mix well. Reduce the heat. Now the stirfry is ready.
    Additional Information:
    Lotus root has fibrous brown skin with hard ends, a white interior, and lace-like holes throughout the center of the lotus root. The interior texture has a starchy, juicy quality, similar to a potato, with a crunchiness when raw.
    Lotus root has a mild, starchy flavor. It may taste slightly sweet.
    Eat lotus root cooked. To prepare lotus root for cooking, peel the skin off of the root. If you want to speed up the cooking process, cut the lotus root into thin slices. Common ways to cook lotus root include deep-frying, stir-frying, or cooking into soups or stews. Some recipes call for stuffed lotus root. Soy sauce and lotus root pair well in a variety of dishes.
