I just employed these set pieces. Subbed on Maguire in the 71st minute because of his jumping reach and heading stats, and also subbed on eriksen. it was 2-2 against Napoli in the champions league, and a double super sub eriksen to Maguire near post corner goal gave me the winning goal to secure the group. I went ballistic, and I highly recommend these tactics.
So I'm at 327 Hours currently with a Beta team and one NLTL team. I'm seeing exactly the same. Had no set piece coach, then got one with 15 SP rating. I saw no difference. I would say right now, this needs patching. Corner goals are happening far too much. Near post Inswinging seems to be where most of them come from. However, watch what happens after the highlight for corners that are not scored. Very often goals occur after the initial clearance. In FM23 defenders cleared into space. Now the attacking team seem to pick up the cleared ball and score. Marcus Carver may be a case in point here.
One thing i noticed and tested over several seasons is that player positions, set piece routines etc dont really matter anymore. the absolute most important thing is the coaching skills for set pieces. In my 1. season with FC Augsburg (predicted rank 17) i finished 5th while scoring most of my goals with set pieces and had the most sep piece goals of the entire league. In my coaching profile i set the coaching skill to 20. In the next season i let my assistand manager (set piece 8) coach the set pieces and scored absolutely 0 goals. the moment i switched the set piece coaching back to me my central defender scored a hatrick from near post corners.
Just started a save with Stoke City, been playing 2-3 weeks now starting to wrap my head around it with being usually being a fifa guy, but man so far we’re smoking teams with these set pieces!
Managing Stockport in the EFL League 2 I'm at 19 December 2023 in game, and have scored 22 goals from corners Routine 1 - Outswinger near post set to more often Routine 2 - Inswinger far post set to average Routine 3 - Short corner inswinger set to less often
Go to tactics, click set pieces and then on one of the routines click to get the drop down box and there is an option to "reset set piece routines" and this will start the whole process again.
Cheers Kev, keep them coming. I havent touched it since the initial set up. I think its pretty much realistic enough in my saves no one is scoring too many goals that you wouldnt expect them to if you know what I mean.
Great content as always, on the defending corner, someone suggested putting 2 trackers on the edge of the area (the 2 go back change them to the edge of the area) to disrupt the lurkers, I think it will improve the defense.
For defense, I always mark both posts to minimize the amount of space the GK needs to block. To me, it just makes sense and I've seen it block a few shots over the seasons. Otherwise, I do a lot of the same as you here and it just works.
Set-pieces are op in general. I'm at top with goals and around average against, and that's just by using a decent set-piece coach and some tall boys. Can't wait to see the result when using this.
Just using preset routines.. I’m Rushall and have 6ft 5in George Waring scored 34 goals in 40 league games with finishing of 8, but jumping reach of 15 and heading of 12… I wonder what his goal highlights are.. yup.. headers…
It’s too much this for someone who just wants to play the game. No time to spend ages tinker in with stuff. How effective is it to just get the assistant to do all this instead?
What Kev has just shown is that it takes a minute or two to quickly set it up and then that's it. Your set piece coach will train the routines and choose the takers and which men to go where based on who is on the pitch at the time.
Kev, some feedback. The filtered, artificial pictures of your face on the thumbnails look cheap and makes me think of videos that are narrated by an artificially generated voice. Otherwise nice vid, once again.
How to master set pieces: "I tried this & never changed it. I heard things were better & never tried them. Mastered."
I outscore my opponents consistently and that’s as good as I need to be without ruining the game and scoring from a corner every match.

"Our 6'3" Left-back scored 20 goals I think, off the top of my head..." - Surely most of them were off the top of HIS head, Kev? :-P
I felt good having my team prepared. Went on Holidays and got back being sacked :)
Trying again now but not going on Holidays lol

How do we get to that set piece instructions intro after we've already done it once? I picked player marking and no idea how to change it
I’ve been trying to get there as well. 🤔

Yessss been waiting for this

Thanks for this mate, appreciated.
Tamworth beat Brackley 1-0 last night, header by Liam Dolman from a corner. Goals from set pieces are crucial for sure.

love you kev
I’m doing a Southport save. Just getting to December and those “meaty boys” haven’t scored a corner yet! 😅
This video shows that Cullinane-Liburd set the expectations extremely high 😅
Or maybe it's Kyle Finn who did 😁
I mean, it's very much not just him! Like I showed, I've been scoring set pieces for fun across all my saves!
I have my set piece coach setting it up and picking takers and he picks random players usually
I only get 4 questions and it won’t let me customise it what do I need to do
I changed to this and scored the first game with it.
I have found that my man outside the box scored a lot of long range goals from clearances
My assistent keeps putting my large center back on counter attack at defending free kicks….
It’s too much this for someone who just wants to play the game. No time to spend ages tinker in with stuff. How effective is it to just get the assistant to do all this instead?

I just feel like this proves that set pieces are currently poorly balanced

They also make people click on the videos and have a much higher clickthrough rate than my old style thumbnails!
Glad that it works then. Each to their own I guess.

I am 16 stone.... What's wrong with 16 stone? 🥹
