I bought my 2018 Chrysler 300s 5.7 in August 2018 (dealer lot dud) 5yrs after my 1994 Dodge Spirit V6 that I ordered new was totaled in a wreck. I had wanted a "Nitro R/T" to replace my Spirit, but they were discontinued, so I waited until I found a deal I couldn't resist. I love my 300 and all it's features and power, no regrets whatsoever, other than the release last year of the 6.4L 300c "last hurrah" model. Had I known, I would possibly have waited another 5yrs (saving up) and coughed-up the premium. I really hate the demise of the Hemi, although the Hurricane seems promising. This EV craze will hopefully blow over, and Chrysler will resurge with another V8!!
My 2011 Charger, which I bought new, now has 245,000+ miles on it. I've been driving since 1964. I've owned them all, Ford, GM, Chrysler, Toyota, Honda, and this Charger is the best car I've ever owned. I wish someone would come along and buy Chrysler out from under Stellantis.
I believe Stellantis has priced many of their products to be uncompetitive in their respective segments. For example, several years ago the Compass and Renegade were thousands less than most competitors in their segments. Now their MSRP is thousands above Compact SUVs like Rav4s, and CRVs and Subcompact Seltos and Trailblazers. Even with discounts not competitive as far as pricing. The Hornet was originally advertised starting around $30k, most of the dealers near me only have the $45 to 50k for that price you might as well get the prestige of the Alfa Romeo Tonale. Stellantis needs to bring back the Grand Caravan an affordable minivan. Personally I feel Stellantis has a grudge against the United States since the American public will NOT buy their Fiat and Alfa Romeo brands. They need to hire people that understand the American market. Right now it looks pretty sad. I hold on to my 2010 Grand Caravan waiting for an affordable replacement.
Fiat pulled out of the American market in 1980. People stopped buying their cars here due to reliability issues. My brother had one, and it was always in the shop for repairs. He called it Fix It Again Today. As for the Caravan, it never should have been dropped. Chrysler made the same mistake in the 1970's when they discontinued the Dart, and replaced it with the Aspen. The Aspen had rust issues starting the minute it ran out of the factory. Even Lee Iacocca said the Dart never should have been discontinued. The Ram division used to be part of Dodge until it was separated. From the look of things it looks like Ram and Jeep are the only two brands that will survive. Chrysler and Dodge may join Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Saturn, and Mercury in the pile of names that were discontinued. There are many more car brands that also disappeared such as Studabaker, Packard, Nash, Hudson, and Kaiser from the 1950's.
Not sure if they have a grudge on America, plus the French basically run the show at the moment overall, and few years ago when Fiat alone owned Mopar they were selling a lot more cars and the modern Mopar we know a love (besides Chrysler, that's basically been neglected since the Aspen was taken away). We'll see what the future holds, hopefully these car companies will fall back to Earth once this electric craze goes away and we get back to our senses.
Jeep will definitely survive. In Michigan Wranglers sell like hot cakes. I see lots of Pacificas here too. It’s actually sad to see Stellantis basically get rid of these Brands.
I bought a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Overland 4x4 2.0 liter 4 cylinder. I really wanted Grand Cherokee but I had loan on 2016 Chrysler 200C AWD for my wife. First SUV I ever bought I purchase Chrysler dodge and Plymouth over the years great cars, Guys I know really enjoy Jeep wranglers these guys are repeat buyers of Wranglers.
@@VAFZone Then what is the point of adding the complexity and potential reduced engine life of a boosted engine for such small efficiency gains.? All I can think is that is was needed to achieve overall fleet fuel economy mandates. As long as the Hurricane gets through the warrantee period, without failing, that is all that matters.
I’ve yet to see a Dodge Hornet on the road, since sales are poor I would expect some incentives.Btw I actually like them alot but are concerned about quality issues.
I’m a Ford man myself, and even though I should be rubbing my hands together saying hahaha, that’s not the case. I’m very sorry to hear bad news for an American auto manufacturer this will hurt more than just the fans of their cars, this will hurt America and American families who work with and for Chrysler, Dodge, Ram and Jeep. Plus it will hurt us, fans of other brands when a car company doesn’t put their best foot forward the others get lazy and rest on their laurels. Hopefully they’re able to survive this and these times will be looked at as a bump in the road of American industry.
I don’t understand why a requirement of the bankruptcy was that Dodge trucks were spun off as a separate division. I’m sure it makes no difference with the upcoming demise of the Chrysler brands, but I don’t know why it had to be done.
The previous Grand Cherokee was great. You FAILED to mention the Trackhawk and V8 variants that you love are discontinued and that price increases / dealer markups are through the roof. My neighbors have a current generation Grand Cherokee and is nothing but trouble. Sales are up on Compass because that is what people can afford. I have owned Jeeps for over 25 years. I now own my last (purchased new) Jeep.
To be honest, i think Stellantis should just go ahead and phase out Chrysler, the brand has been struggling in the market for years. I don't know why Stellantis wants to continue Chrysler. Chrysler is the ball and chain of Stellantis.
Used to be MOPAR or no car...now it's no car is MOPAR as Stellantis will kill the MOPAR brand off very soon no money to be made with lousy product and nothing new in the pipeline.
I’ve had 4 Grand Cherokee’s, best was my first in 96, and progressively worse in reliability and quality. Lived my 2011 Hemi but what a junker. For the cost I expect better
I was buying Dodge Grand Caravans for my business for years and it was the best van in the business, they then replaced it with the Pacifica which is a total lemon so everyone in my industry are buying Mercedes; so no more DODGE vans for me. I bought a new Jeep Patriot in 2015 for my daughter which is excellent and was well priced, I told her to take care of it as after looking at the new Jeeps and their prices I will not be buying another Jeep anytime soon. I also have a Challenger RT which of course they discontinued so I will be keeping that one too. I was a solid Dodge Jeep customer buying many cars for business and pleasure but they drove me out the door with their prices lately on Jeep and their lack of a decent van like the Grand Caravan. If they were smart they would bring back the Grand Caravan which they had done once before as there are people that want them.
I know several people with jeep products and not one of them have had good luck with them. One of them has a 2017 renegade and the transmission blew at 50k. One has a 2018 jeep something and they've had to replace every computer in the friggin thing. To say jeeps are reliable would be incorrect. I'm sure some people have good luck with them.. but for most that's not the case
I have had 4 Grand Cherokees. 2006 5.7, 2015 SRT, 2016 SRT and 2021 Trackhawk. All have been great cars and trouble free. Sorry you did not have the same experience.
Chrysler/Mopar has lagged the industry in quality and reliability since the 1970s. Fiat and Peugeot actually have worst quality and reliability issues. The best way to destroy an automobile quality is let French manufacturers tinker with the engineering. Look what Renault has done to Nissan. So basically Stellantis is like taking all the players on injury reserve and the ones cut from the practice squad to assemble a team to challenge the Super Bowl winners.
When the computer chip shortage came along, Stellantis used the chips they had on high margin cars.... like there was no tomorrow and rolled in the bucks. Tomorrow is HERE.
I like the signage you have behind you, Coronet and Charger in particular as I own one of each. I'm a Mopar fan of yore, when Chrysler was known as the engineering company. As much as I wanted to bond with modern day Mopar, I haven't been able to.
I am in the market to trade my ‘20 Yukon and like the styling of the Grand Cherokee 3 row and Wagoneer but I feel both are overpriced. 70K for a well optioned Grand Cherokee when less than 10 years ago they were like $45-55K?? A Wagoneer can be had for low $70s but it would not be optioned that well and for that money there are more reliable and better equipped vehicles available. I will likely stick with GM. I admit I have never owned a Mopar product and never cared that much for them but I have always heard they do not have good reliability. My parents leased a 2015 Compass and by the end of their lease with under 30K miles their engine had a non-repairable oil consumption issue and the transmission would slam into gear really hard at times. Doesn’t sound like a quality product to me.
It's a shame you can't get a real v8 full size sedan like the 300 or the iconic charger anymore I'm tired the best is always limited and at the end just like the panther platform with ford

Great review. When I was younger the popular minivans were the Plymouth Voyager & Dodge Grand Caravan.
Maybe Jeep will survive the next few years. As for Chrysler and Dodge, I expect them to be defunct in 2 years.
Sad but probably true Jon.

Stellantis is developing a Dodge Charger Coupe EV. There is talk of using the Hurricane V6 engine also in the Charger Coupe.
Hi how do parts fair in on dodge will they still have parts and for how long
If Stellantis drops Dodge, they would be required to repair and carry parts for a while. Can't remember if it's 10 or15 years?
Wagoneer are over 100k and Grand Wagoneer are around $ 115k and Up. NO Wonder they’re Not Selling. Stellantis and Fiat did MOPAR Brands NO Favors. 🤪👎

Comparing the Hurricane Twin Turbo Six to the Hemi V8 , there is an insignificant improvement in gas mileage.
I agree, NOT a significant improvement. 2-3 MPG, that's it.

Heck, they INVENTED the minivan!
It’s always funny to see Chrysler selling a few of their discontinued models much later like the 4 200’s sold last year which were most likely 2017’s.
