    l'm so thankful I found your channel and video. I skimmed through at least a dozen other videos about this headlamp, trying to find some more comprehensive information than what I've already read online. But sadly 95% of videos seem to waffle on (at a snail's pace) about nonsense and the painfully obvious, while occasionally describing a basic feature - if we're lucky!
    So it was such a relief when I found your video! You got straight to the point and stuck to relevant information. You actually sounded interested and familiar with the thing you presented, which made the video engaging and insightful. And most importantly, you had plenty of new information to contribute from your own experience and testing! 👌
    Anyway, thanks for the hard work and great content. I've subscribed, and I'm gonna check out some of your other headlamp reviews/presentations now! 👍

    I've got an older Fenix HP30R and the thing is built like a tank and been super reliable I have used it in multiple 24 hour obstacle races where I've literally jump off a cliff into water multiple times while wearing it with no problems at all! I'm also a big fan of the battery no stupid proprietary rubbish just a simple 18650 that's nice cheep and easy replace or carry a spare. Thank you for the great review as always

    Thanks for the review! I have been using the HM65R Ultra Raptor for over an year now and in the fall started using the HM65R Shadow Master which has the same Luminus SST40 used on the HM65R-T but with more brightness levels and a red flood light instead of a white one: absolutely love it! I was using their HL55 before the HM65R came out and it was another great light.
    I started using a Fenix HL21 for hiking and running over 10 years - it's amazing how well they developed their headlamps over the years!

    Great review! I’ve been testing this headlamp out for the past few weeks as well, and I think it’s time to retire my Petzl Nao and Swift RL torches!
    A suggestion though, in North America we typically use the word “headlamp”, in case you want to include that in your tags and search terms.

    I had no idea there were races like this. I'm just here for the review but it's interesting learning about a different use scenario.
    It seems that if Fenix says 400 lumens it's actually 400 lumens and 8 hours means 8 hours (at room temperature.)
    If you go on their site they have charts that show brightness level vs time. Turbo modes usually don't stay at their initial level because the light will overheat but Fenix is transparent and will show the thermal throttle step down on their charts.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeap weather conditions can definitely effect the batteries performance, especially in really cold conditions. The brightness will dip over time but it does happen quite gradually so you don't really notice. Thanks for watching 🙏

    I need a head torch for mountain night navigation.
    The petzl's reaction to light function allows you to read maps with out glare problems. But the extra lumens on the fenix really attracts me greatly.
    1. Is glare a problem with the fenix when map reading or is it easy to adjust manually?
    2. The fenix has an external charge plug. Does this not run the risk of dust getting inside the torch? It does claim to be waterproof so is the dust cover really that effective?
    3.For mountain walkers, would you rate the fenix over the petzl?
    Thank you.

    I purchased the hm65r-t based on your review. I have an ultramarathon coming up. I wondered if you purchased an additional battery? The torch comes with a Fenix ARB-L18-3500 battery but it states that it runs off 2 x CR123 batteries. For multi day marathons/hikes, do you recommend I invest in another official Fenix ARB-L18-3500 battery or will the run time be the same if I just use regular Duracel CR123 batteries?

    Thank you for this thorough review. I just bought one of these today for a fall camping trip and the upcoming hunting season ( for returning for my hunting stand at night. I previously was using the Petzl MYO ( now discontinued though I don't know why) which I loved. It was my second one in 10 years. I was looking for a back up for camping and wasn't impressed by the current equivalent models to the MYO. The salesperson showed me the Fenix reviewed here and now after reading this review I'm exited to give it a go. I'd never heard of the brand before.The salesperson originally told me it didn't take non rechargeable batteries so I was starting to have a bit of buyer's remorse thinking about my upcoming 5 day camping trip and having to carry a portable charger etc. I'm trilled to see that you can use the CR123A's.

    (Is it not pronounced 'Phoenix'? as in the mythical bird - there is only one 'n' in Fenix which makes the 'e' long. People do the same thing with the Garmin range of Fenix watches too).Thanks for the review, it was very helpful. It looks like a very good option for running. One thing I did spot is that I think the tilt is limited to downward only, it can't tilt upwards due to the controls being on top. Not an issue for most people, but I tend to wear a 'head' torch around my neck, over my jacket collar when I'm running - they tend to give me a headache on longer runs, so wearing it over the collar is so much more comfortable, but I need to tilt it up a bit. The solution here would be to just wear it upside-down I suppose :-). Thanks again, very good review.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm pretty sure I'm pronouncing it right, I could be wrong obviously 🤔
      English never was my strong point!
      As far as the tilt on the torch, yes it only tilts down because its a headtorch. I can honestly say I've never heard or seen anyone wearing their headtorch around their neck! That's a first for me, I surpose if it works, it works 🤔
      I know the headache feeling you're on about. I've always found it tends to be where you have the strap to tight around your head. Have you tried wearing a beanie hat or a Buff under your headtorch strap?
      What headtorch do you currently use? Is it quite heavy? Also have you thought about using a waist or chest torch instead? Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment it's really appreciated 🙏

      @@Run4Adventure The torch I have at the moment is a cheap generic one (cob for wide beam). It's fairly light-weight but I'm looking at the nitecore HC65, amongst others. I know that it might sound weird having one around a neck, but the running jacket I have on has a collar which makes a difference. If it's adjusted so that it sits nicely on the collar, it's like you're not wearing it at all. Surprisingly comfortable, and always forward facing. Incidentally, I've just bought a 3 pack of head torches from Duracel (x3 torches WITH x3 sets of durable AAA batteries - 550lumen) for £28. They have 9 different light combinations, including a red light, a 220 degree spread of light, and for me one of the best features is that they are IPX8 waterproof, which is great as I do run in the rain and have lost decent head torches in the past to water ingress. :-)

      The torch was very consistent in brightness up to around 9hrs. It did drop a bit in brightness towards 10hrs but definitely still bright enough to run with. It was only at around 12hrs that I noticed a big drop in brightness 👍

    1300 lumen, but for how long ? These headlamps always overheat ...for skiing, I want full brightness

    • @Run4Adventure

      The HM65R-T will slightly dip in brightness on full power after about 30mins because like you said it would get to hot other wise. To be fair it is designed for trail running where you're not moving as quickly as you would on skis so maybe it wouldn't be the right headlamp for you. It's definitely bright enough on the 400 lumen setting for all my needs 👍

    I actually have one of those ‘99000 lumen’ headlamps and for the price they’re amazing. I think mine cost $30 on eBay, it runs of two 18650s and is seriously bright on full power. You have the option of using the two spread beams or the single spot beam by themselves or all three at once.
    Burn time is it’s main handicap, on full power you are lucky to get two hours. I’m going to buy some good quality batteries and see if that improves it.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It might be bright James but I'm pretty sure it's not 99000 lumens! 😂
      Your right the batteries do burn out Super quick on them. I'm not sure better quality batteries will give you more burn time but they might stop the headtorch blowing up on your head, which is always a good thing! 👍Thanks for watching the channel it's really appreciated 🙏

    Hi looks great! But any other headlamp can you recomend me, maybe from fenix with 400-500 lumens i thinks its ok for running but looking something lighter below 100g?
    Thanks!

      Hi Gabriel
      There's lots of headtorches out there around the 400-500 lumens but there's not many with that sort of output that are lighter than 100g!
      I'd definitely have a look at the Petzl IKO 500 lumens if weight is the most important thing for you. It's super lightweight, you can hardly feel it on your head. The down side of getting a very light headtorch is that you won't get as long a burn time. To keep the weight down it will have a smaller battery. so you won't get the burn time you'd get from a heavier torch with a bigger battery 👍
      Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏

      @@Run4Adventure thanks again! Yeah its tough call, i will like better compromise between weight-lumens-battery ratio for a 24h ultra (1night)
      Iko its short burn time for an Ultra
      Im looking Silva Explorer 4 (400lum 85metres (not sure if its enough), 88gr with 3AAA and 30-40 hours at 400lum.
      I think its pretty balance option, maybe just for trainnings very tech will do the next jump to 130g headtorch..

      if its a 24hr event then you definitely want a good burn time 👍
      400 lumens is definitely bright enough, if it's a genuine 400 lumens!? I haven't used the Silva torch before but 30 - 40 hrs burn time at 400 lumens using 3x AAA batteries sounds a little bit suspicious to me 🤔
      I've had a few friends buy Silva headtorches in the past and they've been very disappointed with the battery life!

    This torch can only shine at 1000 lumens + for 2 3 mins in a row maximum due to heating up. That's untrue that this can last for 4hrs+ at 1000lm + it's only at 450lm which is a great achievement already. Just thought i'd mention this as the reviewer insists twice heavily on other people or manufacturers stating false burn time and readers buying lies.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Are you sure your talking about the same headtorch? The max output on the HM65R-T is 1300 or 1500 if you use both lights and it doesn't have a 450lm mode? Mid setting is 400lm. I was talking about the battery life at max output not the running time so I'm not sure there's any lies being told 🤔

      @@Run4Adventure I don’t mean photograph versus video, I mean just show a comparison when it’s all over with of the difference between all three beams right next to each other, not separated with a lot of stuff in between. So in order to do it now, I have to keep rewinding and then look, then go forward and look, blah blah. I just want to see all three either next to each other on the same frame or separated but next to each other frame to frame. That’s what everybody is really interested in, and the ONLY thing they are interested in, how bright is the beam and what is the throw.
