Great review Ben. Fenix products are excellent quality. I have the older model of this head lamp and love it. This one seems to look even better given the extra features. Take of yourself and family. Thanks for sharing.

I do like Fenix stuff, but would be a little concerned about the adjustment mechanism. Seems overly complex and prone to getting crap jammed in the mechanism. What I'd really like to see is a way to angle the spot and flood LEDs separately! Low flood to light the area under my feet while having the spot more horizontal for route finding.
@ShiftCtrl85 No magnetic charging! You would need a special charger. USB-C is just what most other devices I carry around are using, so I only need one charger/powerbank.
@ShiftCtrl85 I need to travel with minimal equipment. I don't need a proprietary charging cable which I cannot buy if I have lost it (try to get an Olight charging cable in Simbabwe). You are right about the water proofing though. I really would like to see a different solution there (like under a screwable cap or directly on the battery)
Yup. It looks cheap and soon or later will break down. How often do you adjust it? Once set is enough for its lifetime. Even when needed to be worn on helmet or thick winter hat it takes 3 seconds to adjust it if the band won't expand itself enough. IMHO stupid system.

Neutral white light is way better for your eyes than "cool or cold" white which is bad for your eyes if you use a headlamp for a longer period of time (multiple hours). Luckily Fenix changed this on the HM65R-T as the HM65R only had cool white LED's, but they only changed the flood light to neutral white which is kind of a bummer to me. The spot light is still cool white. While Fenix target runners and Trail runners with this expensive headlamp they should have realize that cool white is actually bad for your eyes. And yes a missing red LED is unfortunate too.

Fenix seems to publishing false runtime numbers on the hp30r v2 and the hp25r v2. I would physically test the runtime. Their runtime numbers are mathematically impossible, as well. I am not sure if this is a 2022 thing or not. Your light is a good pocket or belt light. But I never have seen a single 18650 light that was bright enough and could get me through a whole workday. In theory, an xpl-hi and at a 26mm optic would work, however they use 20mm most of the time, or are driven over or too far under the 350 milliamps necessary to get a 10 hour runtime. If I carried spares in my pockets they would fall through holes, catch on fire, or usually be dead when I decided that I needed it. Not to mention help pull down my pants or tool belt that is already replete with lots of other tools. The magnesium body intrigues me. I wonder how much of a difference it is than aluminum? The TK line of Fenix lights were made of too heavy aluminum. The TK stood for Tank, apparently.
How is the button press with gloves on? I wear leather gloves at work and I actually need to change light modes frequently. Having to take a glove off would be a deal breaker. My current headlamp is the nitecore hc65. It works great but, it only has spot light. Having the ability to use flood as well as spot would be ideal.
If I understand the issue, the solution is simple. Simply buy an inexpensive 18650 charger and do it that way. Onboard charging is a big plus for most folks.

What did I miss about hm65r-t having 1500 total lumen when clearly 400 flood 1300 spotlight = 1700. That’s how it’s measured on old model 400 plus 1000 = 1400. So, alternate universe?
Battery power limitation.
Do you have a bike/climbing style helmet, if so could you please try this lamp with it to see if the band will fit? :+)
I don’t, but I’m going to say it wouldn’t. However, I did hear from Fenix that they revised it and made it longer.
@@livingsurvival well good, and thanks for the intel, do you have a store page link or something i can click to get one?
Fenix PLEASE keep this headlamp simple.
Red light mode ?
Luv my Nitecore hc65 headlamp 💪
How much is it?
I wish it had a red light, just for the bugs
How is the button press with gloves on? I wear leather gloves at work and I actually need to change light modes frequently. Having to take a glove off would be a deal breaker. My current headlamp is the nitecore hc65. It works great but, it only has spot light. Having the ability to use flood as well as spot would be ideal.
The buttons are big enough and have a clicky pressure point. Works with gloves on.
Thanks for the info.
I just bought one, only thing I don't like... it's charging system, I wish it's charged batt out the light...
If I understand the issue, the solution is simple. Simply buy an inexpensive 18650 charger and do it that way. Onboard charging is a big plus for most folks.
Just washed it with the garden hose.
I just got this and really like it. But I see no way of removing the strap. And thus, no way of cleaning the band without submerging the light.
It's look like better than olight barun 2, I just bought, olight is look good but it big and heavier...
Yes. Red light is important. I will wait for it.
This would be the ultimate headlamp if it had some sort of Red light for preservation of night vision...just my opinion. They were so close.
The headlight with the same effect can be used by you for free
