  • In this episode I sail across the North Providence channel from the Berry Islands to Nassau Bahamas. While anchored at Junkanoo Beach a massive thunderstorm rolls through and a big Catamaran drags anchor up on the beach

    There's a yanmar dealer in marsh harbour. If you are considering going back to Charleston, you could start picking your way north thru the Abacos. Good anchorages at marsh harbour, green turtle cay, then great sale cay. Could jump into gulf stream at memory rock and get the boost to head for the carolinas...

    Just got back from Bahamas, sailed from West End to Titusville, 30 foot Hunter 1986, solo.
    After going over from West Palm, to Green Turtle Cay, lost steering cable, had to hand steer to Spanish Cay to fix it and after 4 miserable days at Green Turtle with heat turned around and head to West End. After four hot days and back to hand steering, I arrive dehydrated and heat exhaustion. Wind up in Freeport Hospital.
    God what a terrible trip.
    After four days of waiting for good sailing weather to make crossing I left West End and 24 hours arrive at Port Canaveral. One more day and home almost a month of pure boredom and heat exhaustion. And an expensive hospital bill and overpriced food.
    And all solo and 75 years old. A dream and destiny complete. Worst decision I ever made.
    Don't be stupid, sailing the Bahamas is for the rich not poor folks.

      I know your pain! I'm heading back to the mainland as well. Surrounded by storms no good holding hurricane season is here!! All I can say is you did it! Be proud. The last 7 months of sailing has been tough as all hell. But I dont regret a thing. I'll be happy to be back in the USA I'll tell you that much..

    I lived in Nassau for 5 years starting in 1999. I was worried about crime, I kept money on three parts of my body, just so that I would be able to give money if I was robbed three times in an evening. In 1999, there were 69 murders in a city of 270,000, about ten times the murder rate of Toronto. It turns out that the fear was all in my head. So just like any city anywhere, don't be drunk anywhere without transportation to your boat. Foreigners are not victums of violent crime unless you want to be a victum.
    For a good time, dinghy down to Junkanoo park on a Friday night or Saturday night, thousands of people all having a good time, perectly safe. There will be people walking around selling moon juice- a concoction of condensed milk and alcohol. Across from Junkanoo park is the Cricket club, good food and draft beer. Also, you have to try traditional Bahamian breakfasts, that is the best Bahamian food.

    Try annealing your copper washers using a butane torch… you don’t need to buy new ones all the time…fair wings and cheap beer

      @undersail262 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sure thing. Have a propane torch or butane torch, heat the copper up red hot than submerge the copper washer in cold water,

    Why not just remove your starter and take it to an Auto Electric mechanic? Even in third world countries, they don't buy NEW, they repair.

    Mike Nassau sucks, do your shopping, get fuel and GTFO. Head for Highbourne Cay, Normans Cay, Big Majors/ Thunderball or Blackpoint in the Exumas. You "could" ride out a hurricane in Georgetown if you had to - you could get hauled [ BTW, Spanish Wells is better]

      Your tempting me to go further south.. my dilemma is go north go south? I'm not sure. Would you go south at this time of year? Not as a youtuber. As a sailor? Would you take the risk? Tell me you're thoughts..

      @@sailingEV888 If you do go north where are you going to go ? Most of FL is crazy expensive with a zillion boats waiting and voracious tax collectors if you stay too long. GA,SC and NC are poorly equipped and hot spots for hurricanes. So that leaves the Chesapeake which could be good but a LONG WAY from you. You might fare better in a Bahamian marina away from the storm.
