Ok folks, thinking about getting this for my mother to replace her ancient Mac Air. She does basic emails, browsing, and some crypto trading (Mac Air hooked up to external monitor). It is really hard to justify buying the Nano w/ i5 & 16GB RAM for $1750 vs a similarly spec XPS13 for $1100. The $650 extra for a larger 512GB SSD and 2k screen on the Nano doesnt work out for me somehow. Thoughts?

I'm guessing this nano have solid strong chasis, and hinge with great portability. And hope so it can long lasting up to 15 years thanks to durability exterior material. If someone give me choice between X1 nano and X12 detachable... surely i'll pick the X1 nano.

Hi Andrew. Good to see you again. This is truly a lovely unit. I think it's potential would have been truly unleashed if RAM modules would be made smaller so that they can be slotted in for upgrades. Hope you're doing well, though. Hope to catch the next stream 😊

Video camera: not the greatest. Nice review -- am curious about battery life on the touch display. And: how is performance compared to a couple of generations old processor? (E.g., my Surface Book 2...). Regarding the shallow key travel... rumors have it that the X1 Carbon/Yoga of 2021 also have the same, shallow key travel.

Despite its expensive price tag, this X1 Nano is such a great competitor against the LG Gram.

My slim 7 Ryzen 7 4800U beats Intel i7 1165G7 at 8W TDP in multi-core while averaging 64C, I really wish this had an AMD variant and that will also significantly increase battery life, no idea why these innovative laptops are exacerbated with Intel :(

Great video! I think 16gb of ram needs to be the base model standard on these newer machines.

Chief competitors in its weight class - Yoga 7i Carbon and LG Gram 13 2021, which are 16x10 and have higher resolution. Also the Fujitsu UH-X. Not really going for MacBook Air which is much heavier.

I went with Carbon X1 instead. Almost as light and it has all the ports including usb a and only about 100 grams more.

True, weight rarely differ much with screen size. But small size itself makes it easier to bring.

The main issue I see with the nano vs the new macbook air is that the new m1 processors completely blow the nano's to bits. From what I've seen, there is also a fair amount more throttling with the nano when performing strenuous tasks in comparison to the air. Take the price differential and battery life into account and it may just turn a lifelong thinkpad user into a macbook guy. The two things that keep me coming back to the nano are the keyboard (even with slightly less travel) and the extremely low weight.

So tempting, top spec is approx $3K AUD, just love that thin and light ThinkPad design. But with M1's available it's a hard ask

This is the best light/portable device I've found so far. It's just the price that is the major negative. Lenovo are excellent in allowing customization. The light weight + connectivity (5g ready) plus good screen and performance is the ace here. I'd like touchscreen also as writing notes and extending the interactivity of the device is useful too. I can see these core sets of features becoming the standard in about 18-24 months' time.

So well edited and presentation with graphics, and you keep improving every time. Further improvements can be showing if there was any panel back-light bleeding in your model, b-roll with backlit keyboard in a dark studio setting, a close up from the side where you press one key (to show key travel/shallowness/click) for those who are picky on keyboard, and clickpad sound. Keep it up :)

Nice PC. Camera and microphone okay. Display is very good. Like the easy access to the inside. Also like the fact that it runs fairly cool (efficient). To make this complete they should have included a dongle for USB-A port and SD card slot. Would be nice if it had a 5G slot for wireless internet. This is a great PC for portability, but not that great for home use. Most of these small PC's have that issue. To get around that one could connect to a full external keyboard and mouse and docking station and external monitor at the home or office. One question, Is the wireless card slotted or soldered in? As always another great review.

Haha, lighter than MacBook air. A 14" X1 carbon is lighter than a MacBook. I never understand why Apple is such a reference, when people in the market for X1 is quite a different profile than Mac.
    Still good review.

Thanks Andrew. I was about to pull the trigger and pick this up BUT then Lenovo went ahead and showed us the new Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 9. A bigger screen with the same 16:10 aspect ratio BUT A LOT MORE PORTS and only 1/2 lbs heavier. But still at 2.5lbs, the X1 Carbon Gen 9 seems to be the better buy then the 2lbs X1 Nano.

Thanks for the review. I'm curious if the display gave you eye fatigue? I'm exchanging mine because it gave me eye fatigue and I'm keeping track of what model the display on it is (Lenovo sources their displays from different suppliers) so that I see if I get a different model with the replacement unit and, hopefully, no eye fatigue!

We have both the X1 Nano and X1 Titanium Yoga with the Intel Core i7-1160G7, 16 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD (2242).
This X1 Nano has a Geekbench 5 score of 1464 single- and 5077 multi-core. And the X1 Titanium a score of 1387 single- and 4864 multi-core. According to a review on Notebookcheck the Nano‘s CPU Runs with a much higher TDP of 40 watts.

58 FPS on Witcher 3 on low-settings? Really ? Lon Sai did a review on the Thinkpad X13 that had a much more powerful AMD Ryzen 5 4650U processor with Zen Graphics and he said he was only getting 30 FPS on Witcher 3 on low-settings (also on 1080P resolution).

Great review Andrew. I'm a sucker for tech channels, and I think yours is an underrated heavy hitter. This is my first comment on your channel, so I want you to know that you're in great company-- I feel like you're right up there with Mobiletechreviews, Dave 2D, JustJosh, and a few others for presenting far more well-rounded commentary, while still maintaining a professional bearing and presentation. You seem far more like someone who I would run into professionally than some undergrad college kid barely out of his mom's house who thinks RGB is synonymous with quality (Nothing wrong with that, just not what I'm looking for).
I've had a Razer Blade 15 Advanced for about 2 years as my daily driver. It pretty much got me through grad school and work, while still letting me play games when I can-- and while I've been fortunate enough to not have the same issues as many Razer owners, aside from a busted USB A port and some dents and scuffs on the chassis, despite being a thin and light, it's heavy, 4.3 pounds and the power brick adds another 1.7 pounds or so-- making it a 6-pound machine. I take public transportation and walk everywhere, and every pound adds up, especially after a deadlift session.
I'd probably have stuck with that for another year, but with the new Tigerlake Processors and Intel XE graphics allowing for some real gaming chops (yes, I know it's not going to be playing games at full resolution and 90 FPS, but it's definitely not just relegated to 10-year-old games or low-res stuff like Fortnight or League of Legends), have changed things up where you don't have to choose between a gaming rig or your lower back.
So I decided to retire my Razer as my "home base" machine, and I want a new daily driver. The Nano stands out at the top of the list. I do really like the new Surface Pro 7+, and your review of the Thinkpad X12 detachable really shows that it's an amazing Surface Pro contender, but as thin and light as these machines are, I've found that it's really challenging to use them on your lap. Also, on small desk space, I've had my surface pro basically fall off and detach from the keyboard and flop onto the floor.
I'm also looking at the Dell XPS 13, but I've heard about issues with build quality (of course, that could be the same as the people who hate Razer-- the machines could work well for 95% of people out there the 5% with lemons can be very vocal), and I'm also looking at the LG Gram 17 or 16-- the notion of having so much screen real estate and stupendous battery life (Plus great port selection) is tempting.
I'm also planning a move overseas this summer for work, and being able to consolidate my tech to something like Nano is very tempting.
Anyways, thanks again, you've really helped me form a far more educated position when it comes to replacing my old laptop, and for a purchase that can easily get up to nearly 2k that's very important.
