How to change the engine air filter on a 2016 VW Golf Sportwagen w/ 1.8L TSI motor (EA888 R4 Petrol non-diesel). In the US, VW recommends replacing the engine air filter every 6 years or 60,000 miles. This procedure is similar for all 7th generation (Mk7) Volkswagens using the 1.8L TSI motor.
Tools required: T25 Torx bit screwdriver
Just saved me like a $160 on external and cabin air filters thanks you!
Glad to be of service!
Thank you, excellent directions. Once I figured out what a T ratchet was and borrowed the right size from my neighbor. I was good to go. Too bad the nice man at N*p* sold me the wrong size filter. Also thanks for mentioning there are 8 screws to loosen and they don't come all the way out. Once I get the right filter it should be a breeze to replace.
@@suzannemaple8030 TY for the nice comment and good luck with the rest of your project!
Changed this filter today as well as the cabin AF thanks to your help! Saved quite a bit over the dealer changing the filters! Appreciate it.
Mission accomplished!

What a great channel. I echo what has already been said. I am learning a lot from you and would love to see something on all the major fluid in the car (brake, transmission, etc). Thank you for doing this.
amazing, concise and super useful. Thanks!

hanoihancock Thank you! Whoever benefited from the original poster should always appreciate the OP!
Looks like this is exactly the same for the 2019 sportswagon! Thanks
Yup. 2019 is the last year in the Mk7 generation of Sportswagens, so it should be the same procedure for you. 2020 begins the new Mk8 generation.
great channel!! if you ever have time for it, could you possibly do a sportwagen video that shows how to check and/or replace the different fluids in the car, like windshield washer fluid, brake fluid, power steering fluid, etc?
also, have you done any mods to your car or kept it stock?
Great video, thanks.

Great video! What is the hose attached to the air filter "box" on the left, seen at 0:04? I found mine detached, and it does not stay in place when putting it back: It id not snug. Got my air filter changed 11 month ago, so I am wondering if the problem dates back then, and what the consequence could be on the engine. No engine light lit up. Thanks!
have you done spark plugs?
Haven't quite hit 60,000 miles or 6 years yet, so no. But I'll definitely put a video together when I hit that maintenance milestone.
Just cost me 42$ CAD for changing my air filter….🙄. Should of seen this before😂
Next time.
Great Video thanks
