I grew up in Toledo; went to BGSU and this captures the atmosphere and character of NW OH perfectly. I subscribe to you, DIB, and other channels and agree this is one of your best.
Hey man, it was nice meeting you at the switch off for the historical site. I didn’t realize you had been at Oakwood as-well, I was set up in that park on the other side of the tracks, got a nice pan shot there. Sadly my mic was turned off for her entrance back home, looks like yours came out great though.
Nice video! My video of the deadhead+some good NS Trains, should be up later today (less likely) or tomorrow (more likely) (because TH-cam crashed last night).
PereMarquette1223 dunno. I’m a fan of both, it always fascinated me to think how whistles of the exact same pattern can sound completely different. Adds to the character!
ToledoRails wear can factor into that. It can distort and change the chamber diameters. Blow steam through at that level of PSI over and over again and it erodes the steel.
This is the closest to 765s original whistle. Both whistle's (765 & 760) were manufactured during WWII, and are therefore steel. The whistle 765 normally carries is brass off a prewar NKP Berkshire. I personally like this whistles tone, but then again I like the steel bell also.
Are you referring to the whistle she wore in the 90’s? That has to be one of the most beautiful whistles I have ever heard. Is that the same whistle 765 wears now?
@@wurlitzer1538 No to both of your questions. The whistle I'm referring to can be heard in the two videos by Rich Melvin's company, Hopewell Productions, Extra 765 West and Wheeling In The Rathole which were shot in 1980 and 1982. Extra 765 West was shot in 1980 and Wheeling In The Rathole was shot in 1982. You can watch both of them as well as two others by Hopewell Productions, Life Begins At 40 and Runnin' That New River Train, on Dailymotion. They're all uploaded in 3 parts each so here's the link to the first part of each: Extra 765 West Part 1's link: www.dailymotion.com/video/x2nq7oe Wheeling In The Rathole Part 1's link: www.dailymotion.com/video/x2o05n1 The raspy whistle in both of these is 765's original. That's the one I'm referring to.
b3j8 This is 760’s whistle, which now belongs to 757. 765’s original whistle would have sounded close to this, because it was a steel cast Nathan 6 Chime opposed to brass due to wartime restrictions. (Some old videos actually confirm this) The regular Nathan 6 chime we know and love on 765 is a brass one, supposedly from the genesis, 700 herself. As for 779’s whistle I couldn’t say.
@@ToledoRails Ok yeah, the fact they were trying to raise interest in the 757 but then using 760's whistle was the confusing part. I have the 779 record and this whistle is very similar tone-wise. Like it! Thanks for your reply also!
I feel this whistle give 765 a more authentic voice in a sense because the whistles havr a similer sound on 50s era recordings
Nice work!
I love that whistle. With that and her Mars light and add a 1940s freight train on her and you swear we're back in the glory years.
RailsofMichigan You may enjoy a Christmas video I have in mind then! It’ll be up soon.
Nice video. I really liked the backlit shot at 2:30

I like the mellow tone this whistle has. We have 2 NKP Berkshire whistles at the museum in Conneaut. I believe one is off the 700.
765 wears 700's whistle normally. In this video it's wearing 760's whistle for bringing awareness of Bring Back NKP 757!

I remember when that happened! I uploaded my video right before TH-cam Crashed! #Memories
It sounds so much better then the regular NKP Nathan it wears.

I like the default whistle much better, although it's very cool that they shined the light on this one for a bit.
Watching this video now really reminds me of May tunning of 6988’s GTW 6 chime.
Nice whistle too!
At some points 760's whistle sounds close to Milwaukee Road 261's and then close to 1225's
I'd pay good money to see a main line photo charter with 765 and a recreated freight train on home rail.
It'll never compare to it's original whistle though.

It was when do you get out that day and a little bit cold
At what point can 760s whistle be heard
Railroad,Preserver,2000 the whole video
Keep that 760 whistle on 765
Could 611 run the rails of 765?
6:10-6:30 🙌
fun fact: it actually came from 760, lol
Wait so this whistle is off 760 right? So is the normal one 765 wears her original? Or off another 700? This whistle actually sounds like 779's.

I personally think 765 should’ve remained 767.
Robert Kersey you know The crew of 765 should’ve renumbered 765 to 760 since she is wearing her whistle.
765 in Ohio 😅
With your eyes open perhaps
