    I love Oris. It was my first Swiss watch 30 years ago. So I bought this watch, the ProPilot Coulson. It features the Caliber 400, carbon fiber, nice strap, and a dial with applied numbers and markers, unlike most ProPilots, which are printed. I bought it in memory of my brother, a firefighter killed fighting a fire with Coulson trying to drop enough retardant overhead. I loved the watch.
    Then, at a watch show in San Francisco, the CEO of Oris North America noticed that the date wheel on the watch had stopped working. Fortunately, I had registered for the 10 year warranty and the watch was only a few weeks old, so my AD sent it to Oris for repair. But even though I was in the database and registered, Oris refused to honor their warranty because I’d bought it online from a grey market seller (who had purchased it from an AD but sold it to me new).
    In short, Oris decided to punish me, a paying customer who loves the brand, not the offending dealer. When I offered to pay for a repair, they refused. Their position was "why? Because we have the proprietary parts to the Cal 400, so f*ck you, that's why." I sent a detailed note to VJ Geronimo the Oris CEO who had spotted the stuck date wheel. He never replied. Fortunately, Watchmaxx honored their warranty and replaced the watch with a new one. I promptly sold it because every time I looked at it, I was reminded not of my brother, but of the shabby treatment that Oris had given me.
    I still like Oris and will keep a S/G pointer date. But this was a heartbreaker 😢 and seriously annoying.

    It’s gorgeous, and you had me right up until the retail price. As a limited edition, it has a limited edition price, and IMHO will be purchased mostly by the must have Oris fan. Most watch enthusiasts won’t pay that kind of money for this. If this were regular production at that price, sales would suffer. Cheers.

    Is 3D "carbon" really a quality material for this application-I saw some advertisements comparing its strength to aluminum?

    This was a really nice watch, it'a 3D printed but it's still a carbon case tho. Movement is also cool, and keep in mind these comes w/ a 10 year warranty which is amazing

    I've looked at Oris for years and years, as well as being the owner of an AP, Rolex and Casio. This was one of the rare buys I made. It does the job of telling time incredibly well, while having a great design.

    Everyone in the comments is concerned with the price. Perhaps Teddy should find out how much is going towards Coulson’s firefighting cause with each purchase. Then it might make more sense.

    Personally, I really like the design of the watch. And the dial! That sunburst orange is very interesting. Now, I wouldn't buy it as my first or second piece in a watch collection. But, it really adds some diversity to an already existing collection. And it's backed by a 10 year warranty. You don't get any better than that.

    Love this one. Great pop of colour on the dial and that 3D printed case with carbon fibre will help minimise any nicks and scratches on the case compared to a PVD coating that highlights the SS underside on the clasp.
    Oris has a solid in-house movement but, unfortunately, I don't think the overall timepiece is worth that $4500 USD price point ($5800 CAD).
    Thanks for sharing and hope 2023 brings you continued success 🙂👍🏼

    The black date wheel looks sorely out of place

    • @mad0uche
      @mad0uche ปีที่แล้ว

      and the font used for the date wheel makes it even worse, I guess in terms of legibility pretending this is an actual useful tool for a pilot you can see the date ASAP because it sticks out like a sore thumb, but then again you don't care what the date is while flying.

    • @iamtheshaker
      @iamtheshaker ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually am indifferent about the font, but I’d like to know the scenario where a date wheel being obvious is necessary lol. Come on Oris, many microbrands are doing this on less than $800 watches

    • @mad0uche
      @mad0uche ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@iamtheshaker I receive delivery trucks to a warehouse on the daily, and it's very useful for me to just check the date and time without pulling out an iphone from my pants so I can quickly record what time the truck is leaving and send them off. I can't think of any situation where the date wheel needs to be obvious and super legible.

  • @NeoWahNah
    @NeoWahNah ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I agree with most! The watch is very interesting and aesthetically pleasing. Not enough to pay full MSRP though. We all know it doesn't cost that much to 3D print the case. If I ever see one for under $1k on the used market. I may consider it then.

    • @PoltergeistWorks
      @PoltergeistWorks ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Do you think a steel case takes longer or costs more to make? :) I think you don't know much about manufacturing, most people don't. There is no technology currently that will print a case that is ready-to-go. It's a rough print that has to be refined and finished by hand, same as a steel case. I agree price is a bit high, you thinking this watch with an in-house movement is worth under 1k makes me think YOU are high ;) lol

    • @NeoWahNah
      @NeoWahNah ปีที่แล้ว

      @PoltergeistWorks LOL! I am quite high! High on life! I am familiar with manufacturing and its associated costs. Do I think it's worth more than $1k? Even $2k? Possibly. Just saying I wouldn't pay more than $1k for it. Which is fine because there is enough out there to satisfy all of our cravings. The case dial contrast is absolutely mesmerizing but.... I still wouldn't pay more than $1k for it, with or without an in house movement. Might change my mind if I see it in person and on wrist. Such is the way of life, so it goes...

      @@PoltergeistWorksThank you for pointing out the fact that that guy is a Muppet. Everybody thinks they know what a price should be, and they have no idea about manufacturing costs, r&d, and other things that go into making something special. It's really annoying in the watch world that everybody knows what something should cost, because they can't afford, and or are too cheap to purchase something. If you don't like the price of something, they should simply just scroll by and go on to something else.

    $4500? That's absurd. Looks like someone sprayed it with a can of Rustoleum satin black spray paint. What is that crud all over the outside of the crown? THAT'S the standard for fit and finish on a $4500 watch? Yikes. That's awful.

    Everything about this watch is bad, the pro pilot line can be bought in the 1-2 grand range on the grey market and it's an excellent watch for the price if you can handle the large size. The last few oris limited editions are huge misses.
