Yhat feeling that you could stay there watching them all day, is the same as we feel about watching your farm life living. Thanks for bringing us along.
This is their farm life!
Also a huge investment/improvement.
Yes, Jim and Brenda, I'm sure it's gotta cost a "pretty penny" to get this done......? From what I understand, it's all about draining your lands of excess water - right ?
Oh, WOW! I'm impressed, Brenda! We are blessed with an irrigated 2.5-acre hobby farm with two 125# LG dogs, Hannah and Arlo, 3 cats for mouse control, 50± chickens (including 2 roosters) 5 garden spots and 52 assorted fruit and nut trees. I'm out harvesting grapes and almonds today, so can't watch the whole video right now, but I can't wait until dark so I can come back in and watch your whole video! God bless and protect Gordon family farm and all who dwell there! 🐴🐴❤❤🙏🙏
Great drone shots…really puts the job in perspective. Very interesting process of improving drainage. Loved the juxtaposition between old horse power and new horse power.
Very impressed with the whole process, the machines, techniques etc! Really hope this makes a big improvement for you! Will be interesting to see how it all looks after you have had the chance to plow it to even the fields all out! Thank you so much for sharing this with us all!
Yes, the pipe was running pretty good already by the next day. Could fill a 55 gal drum in just a couple minutes.
20 gpm or so, already.. :-)
Uh oh!! How many rocks are they gonna find?
Jim, I don't think even your best 4 horses could move that.
Very exciting day, real professionals. I knew of this system for drainage, but thought it was just for sports fields.
Greetings from Australia.
I was waiting for this day as never understood what you ment by tiling the field. Very educational for me Jim as this is why I enjoy your channel. Good to see Ken and Lady together and how well they stood with the noise of the machinery. God bless you Jim and Brenda. Can hardly wait to see how you wean Bree from Lady..
I totally agree. When heard tiling all I could think of was something similar to tiling a floor or backsplash. I've learned a lot about draft horses, working a farm, and life in upstate NY.
LOL, "if he gets stuck I will have to pulk him out with Bill". Priceless!
Very interesting to watch that process.
That tiling plow is really something
Wow, that’s amazing how much tiling they did during the video. Can’t wait to see the final results of this project.
When Dirt Perfect does his installation of drainage pipes, he puts a bright orange riser that sticks above the ground. If this interests you, he has numerous TH-cam videos, building the dozer attachment and installing pipes in numerous fields.
Jim, Brenda most amazing video ever!! Now in know what Tile Drainage is! I hope it gives you the best improvement ever !! Jim Nova Scotia, Canada.
This was so interesting! The name "tiling" sure put a different picture in my mind of what they did! I sure hope this works & drains your field well. The drone shots are beautiful! I bet the guys working the job would enjoy seeing it! Thanks for sharing! 💕
In times past, field tiles were made of clay pipes, which, when made on a half- form were also used as roof tiles. I believe that's why it's still called " tiling" even though it's now perforated plastic drain piping.
@@californiadreamer2580 thanks i was wondering
I think the pvc tileing pipe to so much better than the hard concrete/stuff we had to use in the past when my Dad had tileing done on our ranch and the way they do it now is better, we had a backhoe, digging the trench the whole way, and we were laying the tileing pipe ourselves behind him, and it was, I don't remember how many days it took but it was definately more than a couple. And the pvc being in coil is much better than pallets of stick pipe that you had to unload....you will love the results of having a drained field! Love the videos!!
Seeing the drone view helps me understand 🙋♂️🐈🐈
I’ve spent thousands on tiling and never had the opportunity to see how they did it….thanks Jim.
Facinating!!! I wouldn't get much work done either. I'd be watching them work all day!! Loved the drone footage!!
Yes, it is fascinating to watch this being done by birds eye view.
Oh that's what tiling is! Now I know!
The farm I worked on back 20 years ago tiled 200 acres over 2 years. We just took the tandem discs and straddled the tile runs and kind of chopped up the ridge, but didn't do too much leveling that first fall. The sinkage over the winter was quite a bit, and the next spring we chisel plowed the runs fairly well, but we were putting corn in so didn;t have to be immaculately smooth, we picked a lot of stone! Next year we went at it and smoothed the fields for seeding down and used the rock rake and stone picker to pick the worst, then sowed the barley and hayseed and hand picked with fork and wagon after. All in took 3 years to get the tile runs worked in once they stopped settling. The tiling people back then told us it would be a year for the groundwater to create the new channels and "find" the pipes.
I just spent a long day doing custom manure spreading 5 miles away, took 1.5 hours there to spread 14 loads, and then 5 miles home, got back at disk. Had 3 on the spreader. Now eating steak! Cheerio folks.
Got back at dusk, sheesh!
Interesting. Thanks for the upload.....
" If he gets stuck, I'll probably have to use Bill to pill him out." Good one, Jim 😂
Your funny Jim
Yeah. If Jim hooked up all his good horses I'd lay bets they couldn't shift it.
I didn’t know what to expect w the name but as I was watching, I realized it’s simply a French Drain MAMMOTH size.😄😁😁 it’ll work!!! I was amazed how the one we have at our house works when it rains. AWESOME!!!🎉🎉
Thanks Jim for showing this process. 🥳🥳
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING WITH US LOVE YOU GUY'S
Fascinating...I haven't seen this being done previously. It looks good from the air. I hope it's a huge success for you. I agree, it would have been nice if they'd tidied up a bit.
Feeling sorry for little Bree having to grow up so soon....I wish her well. When is her sister/brother due?
All the best.
Some machines that lay the pipe use the laser to control the depth of each pipe, creating a gravity flow downward. That applies to the main line and the branch lines. Don't know if this machine has a laser control on the back to adjust the big plow. It does look like an antenna rising up from the rear of the plow that would interact to the laser..
Wow, what a big job. The drone footage was awesome. Always love the horses. ❤
Bill, Ken, Baron, and Lady are going to have their work cut out plowing and or harrowing to get that field back into shape for pasture or crops. Duke and Earl will have to pitch in.
excellent coverage with drone...
WOW,the drone really puts into perspective the massive undertaking at hand.Good being done before frost starts. Thanks for sharing 👍
Fascinating to see tiling.
Great drone footage!
That was interesting, not that the other farm activities are not, its just something I have never seen done. Great to see Lady and Ken out for a sled pull. I find it interesting that a horse can be scared of a sheep, but a noisy dozer is not an issue !
Well I’ve never seen anything like that before! Pretty interesting the way the drainage is done.
Very interesting video, didn't know they did that in fields. The drone footage was very helpful to see where & how they laid the tile. Thank you for sharing that. And your fall colors are poppin' ...Beautiful .....God Bless
THAT WILL BE AWEOME DRAINAGE FOR THE FIELDS
HELLO JIM AND BRENDA GREAT DAY FOR YOU, GREAT LOOKING COW'S, THIS IS WONDERFUL IT'S BETTER THEN DIGGING BY HAND THIS IS SOMETHING VERY INTERESTING YES VERY AMAZING, WHILE IT'S REALLY WET ,
Something new I have never seen before! Cool video
I see in the drone village at the bottom of the field the other trench that run down to the woods by the cabin. I take it to that drink leads to the Pand maybe now there'll be more water into the pond. Or will the pawn need to be dug out a little bit to handle the amount of water? Just wondering looks very interesting.
And hopefully, it solves the water problem and allows the excess water to run off. So next summer, haying isn't an issue.
It’s amazing how they tile fields I’ve seen farmers out here do that and never got to watch them. Very Very interesting. Love ❤️ seeing Ken and Lady out. Your Chanel is my favourite. Love ❤️ from Ontario Canada 😂🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
In my county, Kent, in S.W. Ontario, just about every field is tiled, and has been for 50+ years. We are so flat, and on heavy clay, the water would just lay. It was said, at one time, that we had more tile in Kent county than in the entire province of Quebec.
It’s amazing what they are doing. I just can’t believe it. I’m sure it will work for you and very happy you were able to get it done.
So right, much easier than tileing of yesterday year. Back then it was trench dug, and laid in by hand. 16" lengths of clay tile.
They do a lot of tiling in the Midwest. Helps out a lot!! Amazing machine, this should improve your land greatly.
Wow! that was fascinating, we live in a semi arid part of our country and I have never seen anything like that before. That is some pretty serious machinery they are using, I would hate to think of the cost of putting that stuff in, but it will be a God send to be able to use your whole paddock. looking forward to seeing more of it. Thank you.
Simply awesome! This will be interesting to see the difference next spring.
Those are some nice straight lines, are we going to see Jim out there next spring survey equipment in hand laying out furrows 😉
Very fascinating , I'm not surprised how well Ken and lady took it all in. They've been around machinery through their lives.😊😊😊😊
A lot of fields here in central Illinois have drainage piping, but I have never seen it being installed. Thanks for the lesson Jim.
Very interesting. Thanks for showing this process.
Very cool! Thanks for sharing
I love watching both horses, and heavy equipment at work! Kind of opposite ends of the spectrum, but fun to watch, nonetheless! Much better tiling, than the old way, with clay tiles!
Thanks for sharing that. its the same process I used in my Satellite business. burying "Sat" cable. with what they call a "Ditch Witch" cable spool sat on the witch and it cut it's own trench and laid the cable down same way as this tiling was put down. same process just bigger toys! thanks for sharing. ECF
wow, thats a intricate process. hope it works. that machine is a beast. Ive never seen anything like this project. thanks for sharing.
Well worth the money to have that tiling done, especially when I seen the footage while you were on the sled - very swampy looking. It would be impossible to harvest anything out of that area, hopefully this will make it much more usable.
Sandi Brock’s channel has a lot of equally fascinating info on field tiling.
I saw field tiles laid once when I was in high school in the F.F.A. Chapter. We went up to Cornell University for an F.F.A. convention and there was a demonstration of laying tiles on one of the farms near the University there. A very interesting process, indeed.
That job must pay well!😊
Looks like a spot to grow rice
Who's gonna be the "Dad" of Lady's new baby....? It's gonna be interesting seeing you wean Bree....!!
Will be fun to see how much water runs in the hose and how long before it starts to slow down.
That should help drain the field really well of the excess water big equipment so they don't have to dig a trench to install the pipe. Thanks for sharing this video. God bless and keep safe.
Thank you for sharing this. I had no idea something like is could be done.Good information :)
Brenda, now I need a drill and a dream video
I love the white faces on the cows
Thanks for the video. Very interesting to see the process. Sure hope it alleviates the water problem
This is so cool! I never seen this done. 😊
Always wondering how that's done
Thanks for sharing it
I could watch your videos everyday!
That is very fascinating! Thanks for showing it! Never seen that before. I am really curious how it works and how much water comes out of the pipe. I guess in the end they will compress the soil again above the pipes.
Hi Chris, yes hate to see a horse step down into a soft spot or hole, good idea Jim has to bring his neighbor in to level it out and knock it down. It will take a couple cycles. Always good to see you. You did a good job on the corn!
Yay, I know y'all are excited for this to happen
Fascinating! Looks like the skating slough will be much bigger this winter. Hahaha.
Great drone footage at the end! Hopefully you'll have fewer problems with soggy soil next spring!
Wow, that was amazing to watch. Thank you for sharing
Very interesting! Hope it doesn’t bring up the pond level and flood the cabin! Drone footage was 👍🏼 🇨🇦🤠🐴
Very cool. The drone footage is amazing. Without being nosy I’d love to know what this costs. Not a cheap endeavour I’m sure.
wow!
What keeps the pipe from silting up and prevent water from entering the pipe?
🌿Interesting 🌿💞💫😽
wow....
What assurances did they give you that the pipe wouldn’t plug from roots- when used here in Texas for residential use(10-16”) it plugged within 3 yrs. and the ribbing of the pipe makes it impossible to rotor out the inside.
Lindo caballo los cuidad
Interesting,Jim do the drainage tile have slots in them? I assume they would for water to creep in ,if so shouldn't the tile be covered with a filter sock to stop dirt from getting in and plugging the tile, just asking
Yes, good question, the new style is much better, the old clay pipes were covered with screen or sock sometimes as you say, as the holes much more of a problem than the modern slits, also the roots grow into the holes and plug the holes around trees and heavy grass, tag alder.
So will there be any run off jim, and where will it go to? 😊👍
Well Brenda we called our cows a lot of names ,but sweetheart was not one of those names .😊
Pretty fall leaves
How deep are they putting the tile? I was wondering how the heck farmers plow with tile in the ground, but it us way deeper than you plow.
I think that you will need Bill and Ken to pull him out 😂! I hope you don’t mind me asking, but can you give a ballpark estimate of the price for this work? Thanks for sharing.
Frank Jim does not talk money . But I can , $900 to $1,400 per acre Canadian money .This gives you something to work out how much this is costing Jim . Oh by the way American dollar is 30% better than ours .😊
Hi Jim, another great video as usual is lady pregnant or is she not?
how deep is the pipe? so you don't plough it?
Drainage pipe 3 feet .Crop plow 8 inches .😊
omg
is brie on the 2024 calendar?
does the pipe have holes so water can go in it
Yes the tile is perforated
They should have finished the job, maybe they thought you were just going to plow it anyway, I don't know
In the UK it sounds strange to hear you calling that tiling when it's rolls of plastic piping also here we would generally fill the trench with stone.
Interesting ( fill trench with stone) Jim and Brenda pick stones every spring from their garden and crop fields. I don't think they would add stones to their fields .The frost heaves stones up the surface in his area . Picking stones can be a thankless job .😊
@@chips4974 When I say stone I mean 1" to 1"1/2 and only a foot over the pipe so still well underground. Not much stoney land here in Northern Ireland so picking them is a job we don't get to enjoy much! 😂
Not stones but gravel . Why add extra expense .We put gravel over a septic bed but that is working opposite to field drainage system . 40 shades of green in Ireland .
@@chips4974 It would be to stop the soil/clay/peat from blocking the holes in the Polypipe and making the drain last longer - saving money!
Martin .The design of ridges and tiny slits in the poly pipe in the valleys of the pipe doesn't silt or plug up. I hope Jim might show a small section of that plastic pipe . It should last for a long time just the way it is installed .
Come boss....
haha we used to call our cows the same way and they came running.
I imagine you could call them pretty much whatever you wanted as long as you have apples and hay for them!
I so admire seeing the workers who do these different jobs, that takes skill and training. Using a laser is so accurate at spacing those rows. Awesome drone footage!
That's amazing. The horses didn't know what to think about that big thing in the field.. God bless🇺🇸❤️🌹
Kenny was definitely paying attention. I was hoping he wouldn’t freak. But he was fine. Good boy. Nice to see Lady again, too. Do we know yet if she is pregnant?
Had no idea they did anything like this! But I do know, the dozer and the backhoe has a device on them. That is taken readings off the tripod, to get the levels where they need to be! Other people are saying Ken was looking at the dozer and saying he can't do that. But I think he was looking at it and saying Me and Bill can do that Boss!! Lol Y'all stay safe!
Imagine, years ago when farmers dug those trenches by hand.
Ken was lookin' at that dozer like he was thinking "There's no way I'm gonna do that".
😂😂😂
Wow, that's some BIG equipment!!!! I got tickled when Jim said Bill may have to pull em' out if they get stuck!!! I know this is a long awaited day for you! Amazing to see how they install the drainage tile. I was wondering if it was getting close time for weaning Bree! See you next time!
the most horsepower on this channel ever
But it's not purty😅
Amazing! Thank you. I've learned something new. Looking forward to seeing what that little Bree is up to.
