I saw a playlist for Super Paper Mario from a few years ago that I'm definitely going to check out next. RT, you've been helping me through some tough times lately and I just want to thank you for all the work and positive vibes you put out there. Keep being awesome!
Paper Mario TTYD is absolutely a nostalgic fav of mine, but I feel like it mostly just suffers from being a product of its time. I mean the game was made in 2004. There was a LOT of similar padding like backtracking in games back then. It's unfortunately kinda just how they made games have longer run times before they started stuffing content and story into them like they do now. There's definitely better Paper Mario games for sure, it's just the nostalgia factor for us.
@danielj8085 At The Time, The Only Way To Play The Other Games Is On 3DS. He Clearly Would Prefer To Play On Computer Like With The Original Trilogy. He Said He'd Play Great Ace Attorney In His Own Time, Don't Really Remember Why.
@danielj8085 people were really weird and back seaty about the games and got super toxic when he didn't adore certain cases and view them as flawless (3-1 and 3-5). Plus the Apollo Trilogy was DS only up until this year and the games are also MASSIVE time investments stream wise.
@@somerandomgamer8504 Really? I don't agree at all. 2-4 is obviously very important thematically but 3-5 is the climax of the entire original trilogy, I'm not sure how you could call it "unimportant"? And "a mess"? It's really tightly written for the number of plot threads it had to resolve.
Back then they were making games take longer to beat because of rental shops impeding sales. Only $5 to rent for a week vs. $50 to buy. It wasn't for content or a feature to have all those long walks. Gotta waste people's time so it takes more than a week to beat. It worked too. My family mostly rented, but bought the thousand year door so it wouldn't take 1000 rentals to 100%. (Mum's a completionist) Edit to add: Mum's favourite game series is Paper Mario, and her absolute favourites are the Colour Splash and Origami King because of the way you get to repair the environment with paint or confetti. I'm so glad there's someone out there who also loves origami king as well! As someone who did not grow up on older paper mario and only started them since quarantine and I do agree with Dan's complaints regarding TTYD. I was watching his play through to see whether they changed anything or not and so far not feeling the need to buy it again.
I wish they’d changed some of the content instead of being almost completely faithful to the original. Sometimes the original has flaws that should be fixed aside from the fast travel pipes. Kinda wish Nintendo had looked into more common complaints of the game (chapter 7, the backtracking) and adjusted them more. Also personally wish that the final boss cutscenes were shorter; they’re cute but the crystal star ones did grate on me by the middle point (though Pennington realizing Mario isn’t Luigi did make me laugh) and slowed down the pacing of the battle and feel contrived.
Back then you only got a few games a year if not one depending on the person, so spending more time on one game was sometimes preferred and it was sad when it was over
Back in my day you got 1 maybe 2 games a year so you wanted padding or you'd finish it in a few months then have to wait 2 or 3 months at least until you could get another game
I absolutely love this game and I’m glad Dan gave this game a chance and I do agree things like the backtracking could have been handled better like giving a return option like Super did. I still wish they actually made another game like this though, it’s been 20 years since the original TTYD released and we’ve had 4 games that are nothing like the original 2, it would probably be less monotonous to make a new game like the first 2 at this point. About Origami King, I didn’t mind it, I did find the dialogue and humour to be great and the they did add a puzzle element to battles which no other Mario RPG has done, but I don’t think a Mario RPG can be carried with humour alone, combats gotta matter and it’s honestly not that great when the only thing you get from battling is coins and not EXP, if I can beat a Mario RPG by skipping every single non mandatory fight then it kinda makes part of the game pointless if there’s no real sense of progression in fighting and not to mention a lack of customisation. I genuinely hope we get another Paper Mario like this, it’s been 20 years and another Paper Mario like the last 3 would just be Monotonous. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
My main complaint with Origami King is it has less customization and build variety in how you play it. I really enjoy the puzzle battles for bosses in particular.
